  1. Hello, So I was doing a flight plan and had been on auto pilot for a good 20 minutes all going fine and all of a sudden my aircraft banking right at 45 degrees, so I took over leveled off the aircraft and turned autopilot back on and it's then banked hard left while dropping out of the sky. Then leveled it out again myself turned auto pilot back on and was fine for the rest of the duration. Just wondering why it did that? Also another point if someone could help, why does my aircraft decend so slowly when Im coming up to the approach phase of flight. Thank you very much in advance.
  2. I get aligned properly on GPS track using heading, then click NAV on autopilot (with or without HDG mode on) and plane will not track GPS. Sometimes even circling or heading back to original airport. Am I the only one with this problem, or am I doing something wrong ? I love this aircraft, but can only follow GPS track using HDG mode. Can anyone help ? I am not a Newby. Dave Hinson Edit: Finally got AP to track GPS, but ONLY if on track and on proper heading. Looking at the AP .pdf file, I did see that AP would track GPS NAV " Once the course is caught, the AP will hold it.".So NO to intercepting GPS track when off-track. To bad, makes it complicated and attention consuming.
  3. Hi, I recently purchased the Qualitywings 787 for P3DV4, and I am more or less enjoying it so far. One of the things I am seeing is when I engage the autopilot and turn a random heading, and FLCH to 10,000 ft, it puts severe inputs into the control column, causing the nose to violently push up and down. It never reaches the altitude. Can anyone help me with this?
  4. Hello all, I've just started encountering issues with the QualityWings 757 in Prepar3D V3.4. When I disconnect the autopilot the aircraft does not respond to my joystick inputs. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue? I think it could possibly be connected with FSUIPC. I had this issue on my old PC and I managed to fix it but I can't remember how I did it. I am able to control the aircraft perfectly fine on take off and climb and then engage the autopilot. It is when I disconnect it the aircraft is unresponsive to my joystick inputs. Thanks for your time, Jonathan
  5. In Patch 7 (11/25/20), Asobo did something to the autopilot code that caused some adverse behavior. Assuming a simple heading mode change of 45 degrees, the problem is exhibited by the following behavior. 1. The initial bank angle is not constant and not steep enough. It is based on the difference between the current heading and the desired heading. This indicates PID-only control. 2. The bank angle reduces rapidly and proportionally from max bank to a very small bank with around 5-10 degrees of heading change left to go. This, too, strongly indicates PID-only control. 3. The last 5 degrees of heading change (the roll out to the final heading / course) takes a very, very long time (2 minutes in recent tests). Quite a few of us has been investigating this and have come to the conclusion that patch 7 removed the FSX way of doing things and went entirely PID for the whole turn. For context, and further discussion in this thread, FSX and P3D handled a 45 degree bank by: 1. Using a simple bank angle acceleration to a constant bank velocity change until a max bank angle was reached. 2. Maintaining that max bank until 10 degrees or so away from the desired heading. 3. Transitioning to PID control for the final 10 degree roll out. Another use case of PID control is to maintain the commanded heading without excessive wing rocking. The problem with PID-only control is that if you tune it for fairly acceptable heading changes, you get the wing rocking. THE INTENT OF THIS THREAD I see a lot of exasperation and anger expressed in the flight sim forums. I see a lack of understanding of technical concepts such as PID control at the solo process level, and especially at the system level where one PID process feeds another PID process. I would like to PID control's role discussed in terms of how it is, or should be, used in flight simulator systems. I want to start with the current AP heading control, since it is currently flawed, worked correctly until the last update, has caused Asobo to work with the Fly By Wire mod team to come up with a temporary workaround, and an official Asobo AP fix is expected in the next (Dec 22?) update. I want to analyze the heck out of the current problem, the effectiveness of the workaround, the way P3D and FSX do it, and then once the official fix comes out, I want to analyze the fix. THE BENEFIT OF THIS THREAD Let's face it. We're going to have technical bugs in this sim for a long time, and third party developers and modders need some way to gain understanding of how Asobo systems work (or don't work) despite the lack of documentation and the delay in completing the SDK. When something's hurting (annoying bug), it helps to rub it (at least investigate it while we wait for a fix) and get sympathy from someone (talk about it). There are a lot of logical, technical, experienced people in this forum that would get some relief and even enjoyment by figuring out Asobo systems before even Asobo figures them out, and later analyzing a fix to see if you were right. I love this sim already, and the way I handle a bug is to fly VFR, figure out a tweak in the config files, or jump in a forum and try to clear the fog of misunderstanding, settle the anger and frustration through objective and rational investigation and analysis. I hope to find others in this forum that enjoys doing the same thing and join the discussion.
  6. Here is a link to another document with some useful information on AP function etc to supplement the somewhat meagre Carenado documentation: www.smartcockpit.com/docs/Fokker_50-Automatic_Flight_Control_System.pdf Bill
  7. fshobby on the DTG forums has reported this issue with the KAP140 in the Cherokee, just wondered if anyone else has found this too: "I find that clicking VS cancels the lateral mode (HDG or NAV). Clicking Up/Down displays a vertical speed but the aircraft does not climb. Clicking ARM resets VS to zero. VS cannot be changed with ARM enabled." The problem is that once in ALT ARM Mode, you can't re-check your VS setting without changing Mode from ALT ARM back to VS Mode. Activating VS Mode doesn't always work, you need to activate ALT ARM again to change altitude but that seems to default to 400fpm up or down regardless of the VS Mode setting you entered.
  8. Hey guys! I just bought the 747-400X Queen of the Skies expansion pack for FSX and till now I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I start my flights at gate with the jets off and I do a startup but I have no idea what exactly I need to do! After takeoff, I can't switch on the autopilot! Can you please help me figure out what exactly I need to do when starting up the aircraft and what I need to do so that my autopilot works? Thanks a lot! Thenewpilot
  9. Flysimware Learjet 35A autopilot disconnect problem Flying an ILS the jet is on glide slope and localizer and configured for landing. At 500' AGL I disarm the GS, then the NAV mode and finally disengage the AP (on the panel and not the main AP switch). The aircraft performs a serious bank and I do well to land anywhere on the runway. I never turned fuel crossfeed on and both standby pumps were off. So I don't believe there should have been a fuel imbalance. I have wind set to zero. Aileron and rudder trim were set to neutral at takeoff and not touched by me. So why did the AP give me an airplane out of trim? By the way, other than this, the autopilot worked flawlessly during this 45 minute flight. That includes LVL, HDG, NAV, SPD on climb, VS on descent as well as localizer and GS capture. I am surely doing something wrong. Any help would be much appreciated. Steve
  10. Does anyone know if alt tabbing while in flight messes things up? Twice now the ngx departed completely from lateral and vertical path with ap engaged. The only thing i did was alt tab. Also i fly with lekseecon live traffic and sometimes get quite a bit resolution adviseries. Could this be the cause? Regards, Roland roelofs
  11. Hello Level D 767 users! I have hit a snag where some of the Level D’s VC and 2D panel is non functional. The MCP number readouts are gone in the VC. In the main 2D panel the autopilot number readouts are also gone. And, the autopilot’s shortcut panel is disappearing when I first try to make it appear. Also, on the lower engine display, the FF (fuel flow) readouts are flickering. Also the master caution and warning button next to the MCP is also gone. The VOR/DME number readouts are blank. Just like the autopilot. Basically everything on that part of the VC and 2D panel are non functioning. I also forgot to mention the fact that there is no engine sound. I have TSS’s 767 GE PW RR engine sounds and it still doesn’t work. Even the default engine sounds don’t work. Everything else works like a charm. (Besides the FF readout flickering) I haven’t tested every single button and panel, but I’m assuming that it works. So does anyone have a resolution?
  12. Hi, if I understand the graphic in section 4.20.23 in FCOM2 correct the autopilot status announciation should read "AUTOPILOT" (in amber) when on an IAN approach and below 100 feet RA with autopilot engaged. I just did an IAN approach into VRMM but instead of reading "AUTOPILOT" the AP status announciator read "FD" below 100 feet RA. Maybe I did something wrong. Can anybody please try and do the same...or maybe tell me what I did wrong? Everything else went as expected...below 100 feet RA the AP disconnected and the aural sound played. Thank in advanceFrederik
  13. I picked up a partial plane full of British passengers on vacation in Key West. Since the runway is so short (that takeoff is a story in itself), I had minimal fuel on board. My plan was to stop at KMIA, refuel, and pick up additional passengers returning to EGKK. In order to make the trip, I figured I needed to stop somewhere in the northeast to refuel again for the trip across the pond. I selected Bangor, Maine. Nice, long runway, good facilities, and a motel nearby for the passengers to get a good nights rest before the final leg of the trip in the morning. After takeoff from KMIA, I noticed the weather was nice, but I had a pretty stiff wind quartering from the port side. As the trip progressed northward, the wind swung around to the tail, and by the time I was over Virginia, I was making great time with a huge tailwind. Right before I began my descent, I saw ominous clouds building in front of me and began preparations for a bumpy ride down. It wasn't too bad until I turned final for runway 33. WHAM !! Those 70-80 knot tailwinds aren't so friendly when they are slamming you from the side. I had no idea what my airspeed was, the tape was bouncing off the gauge up and down. Soon after this screenshot, the autopilot disconnected and I knew my only hope was to hand fly this landing. I could hear the passengers crying and screaming from the cabin. Or it might have been the flight attendants. As usual, my First Officer offered absolutely no assistance. A mighty battle ensued with mother nature, but in the end I was able to touch down about halfway down the runway and safely land the plane. We're staying in Bangor an extra day, while engineers check out the landing gear.
  14. Does anyone know how to program the autopilot for the Milviz F-15E Strike Eagle? Or does someone have detailed instructions on how to program the Autopilot in the Milviz F-15E Strike Eagle. Or does anyone know of a addon that is freeware or payware that i can in
  15. Hi, Not sure if i'm posting in the right place so forgive me if i'm not: My issue: After my first few flights in the excellent NGX my autopilot stopped engaging. I tried everything, making sure both flight directors were on, making sure aircraft was trimmed with no control inputs, cycling a/p on and off but no joy! So I re-installed fsuipc4, no change! I re-installed NGX and bingo...it started working again! Now after 3/4 flights it won't engage at all again. I've tried the exact same flights with when it was working, with fair weather, light load, balanaced trim...but no joy! Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? Any help would be appreciated as this is killing the experience for me. [ps I have a v.modest system but I've managed to get an acceptable balance of settings that make successful flight v.enjoyable...thankyou PMDG + testers!] Many thanks,
  16. Hey everyone,I have been enjoying the 737 NGX on mainly single-player for the past few days. The VNAV does a great job of managing your climb and descent. However, (in the UK, at least), ATC often tell you when to start descending, and you are not allowed to deviate from that altitude. Is it a case of simply disengaging the VNAV when you get ATC instructions, or have I missed a built-in feature that allows you to postpone the top of descent or descend early using the FMC? Also, it is possible to have the VNAV incorporate some of the descent profile into a holding pattern? If I have overlooked something in one of the manuals then please do not hesitate to point it out to me Thanks again
  17. Hello guys, I am just doing my first ever flight in the Maddog from cold and dark using the tutorials on ther YT channel. While I was taxiing, suddenly I lost power and the whole FMC was erased. The autopilot seemed to reboot but the data didn't come back. All other instruments kept working though. The warnings it gave me were 'no autoland' 'no windshear alert'. Does anybody know what I might be doing wrong? Cheers guys.
  18. Hi Marc, Your latest project, the Remote Overhead for NGX, got me thinking. Is there any possibility of a Remote MCP (Autopilot) for the 777, 747 QOT, or NGX? Thanks, Mike
  19. Can some write a manual for the Autopilot. I am confused by the workings of the autopilot. I have used other autopilots and I don't get this one. Simple explanation how to climb, decent and do a ILS approach etc. Thank you in advance.
