  1. Please do not ask questions in this forum. Only answers should be posted here! If you have a question to ask about any "Tip or Trick" posted, use the PM system (Private Message). That is what it is for. Alternatively, ask your question in the appropriate forum, with a link back to the original "Tip or Trick."Please note that any originating post that asks a question will probably be deleted. If I'm in a good mood I may move the question to the appropriate forum, but......don't count on that. B) If you wish to ask a question about darned near anything FS related, simply click over to the Main P3D Forum and have at it. I am also quite sure that virtually no one will bother to actually read and adhere to this post...
  2. Beta testers, posting in the AVSIM Forums, should make everyone aware of your affiliation(s) in your signature so our membership can see where you are coming from when posting. In the past we asked developers to let us know if they are developers so members can see the individuals affiliation when posting. We never did this for beta testers but, ethically and morally, letting our membership know who you represent or work for should be included in your signature. Beta testers should be proud to show they are beta testing products! I have seen a lot of outstanding banners in signatures showing the product with the words "Beta Tester" inside. That's a good idea but I am not asking for everyone to post a banner with the words "beta tester" inscribed, just asking everyone to indicate they are a beta tester for (name of company). That way our members will know, just like we know many members are developers, they are beta testing. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation.
  3. Here is a living document to help P3D users get the most out of Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D. The guide will be periodically updated based on member feedback, error corrections, and/or new information/tips/procedures as P3D evolves over time. Here is the Prepar3D Guide. Enjoy.
  4. Just to let everyone know, I have removed the listing of followers for the Main Topics, like Hangar Chat, P3D Forum, FSX Forum, etc., and not to specific threads in those forums. It appears our upgrade earlier this year might have somehow corrupted this notification. For instance, in the FSX Forum, I found 189 followers but, when I clicked on the followers, it showed only 30 names and at the bottom, only 16 others (which does not add up to 189). Of course, many of them might have indicated they did not want others to know they were following but many of those following were old registrations and the math did not add up so decided to start fresh. We had a possible glitch with our notification system and want to make sure this was not the issue. It also slows down our system when e-mails are sent to e-mail addresses that no longer exist. This is just in the AVSIM Forums and not in the Commercial Forums (may be visited in the future). So, members might want to go to each main forum and indicate whether you want to follow every topic and thread in that particular forum. I personally would recommend you just follow individual topics inside a Forum. Apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

  6. IT "Hardware Guru-in-Chief" to head revitalized Avsim Hardware Department His name is Paul Johnson, or Paul J for short or PJ and he is the new AVSIM Hardware and Operating Systems Discussions Forum Manager, including: -Win8 OS Forum -The Win7 OS Forum -MOBO, RAM, CPU's & Other Hardware -Monitors, Video Cards and Drivers -Hardware Controllers & Drivers -WIFI, Routers, Ethernet, I/O Boards, etc Paul has had a remarkably distinguished career in the Information Technology industry. He has been part of crucial planning and implementation stages of some of the more important and constantly evolving platforms and operating systems that have come our way. I don't think anyone in our forums management history has been as qualified and as experienced in hardware and software matters as Paul. We look forward to ever increasing levels of success of the Hardware Section under his leadership. New AVSIM Hardware Guru-in-Chief, is being hailed as "just" what the Industry and our hobby needs, "just" when it needs it! The happy fact is that his knowledge and ability is wrapped up in one of the most humble, unselfishly willing and helpful individuals in the hobby. This man really knows his stuff, but equally important, he knows people and how to lead and show them how to help each other. Please join me, the AVSIM board of Directors, the Executives, Administrators, Moderators and staff in giving an enthusiastic welcome to Paul to this most important responsibility and wish him outstanding success in every way. Kind Regards, Spiritflyer (Stephen) Manager of the AVSIM Forums
  7. When posting images in the forums, please follow the tutorial at the following link - Please continue to follow the image posting rules as follows (rules are also shown under the Rules and Polices Tab above): Images posted to AVSIM must conform to these rules. Images must be posted in the AVSIM Screen Shot Forum or the Real Aviation Photos Forum. Images are not allowed in other AVSIM forums unless the image is required to show a problem you are having or images of configuration settings. Non-flight simulation images can be linked in the Hangar Chat Forum if required to show or emphasize the title of the topic. Anything related to Flight Simulation or Real Aviation will be moved to the appropriate Screen Shot Forum. Images posted in topics that are actually screenshots to show off an aircraft or scenery will be split from the topic and moved to the appropriate Screen Shot Forum. Images must be hosted on your own image server site, such as Drop Box, Google Drive, Photobucket.com, OZx Image Hosting (http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/), or a website that you own. Images can be of any size; however, be considerate of your fellow AVSIM members as large photos will take longer to load for some members who do not have fast Internet connections. Images will automatically be resized to fit the viewer's screen width. This process is done automatically by the AVSIM website program. No more than 20 images per post. Moderators will remove any image that exceed this requirement. AVSIM members are reminded of the AVSIM Terms of Service in respect to images, and copyrighted and intellectual property. Images that violate our policies regarding copyrights and family safe environment will be removed and, depending on the severity of violation, user suspended or banned from AVSIM. Images copyrighted on other websites such as Airliners.net are not allowed and will be removed immediately. See Signature Rules for posting images in your signature. If you have any questions or comments, please PM me or one of the AVSIM Moderators.
  8. We have a delay (no longer than 24 hours) for new members posting in our forums to help us avoid attacks from the evil spammers from around the world. If you would like to post during this delay, please use the contact form - Report an Issue under the Contact Us tab above. After we determine you are not a spammer (we have tools), we will activate your ability to post immediately. Thank you for your membership and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Best regards, Jim
  9. Only because I don't think many will go there directly, if you'd be interested in shared cockpit on the PMDG 737 please part-take in Simbol's poll here: Dear moderators - can this post remain in this forum so as to get as many people voting as possible. I've not even seen the poll until today.
  10. Suggestion - Instead of tagging a topic as XP11, FSX, etc., it would be better to Prefix the Topic with a Prefix showing FSX, FSX-SE, XP11, P3DV4, P3D, FSW, etc. This way, if someone wanted to see everything XP11, they could click on the Prefix XP11 and all of the topics with XP11 would appear. I have Prefixed some but there are many more. Making a Prefix is like making a Tag. Just click on the Tags and enter your Tag, then CLICK on the BOX to save it and you should see "Item Prefix" is set to None but you click on that at you will see you tag listed. Click on the item and Save and you will have a Prefix for your Title. Enjoy! Best regards, Jim

  13. A recent battle with determining some issues in XP had led me to remove all third party enhancements, one of which being SkyMaxx. Before I re-installed SMP, I wanted to test out some of the manual dataref settings that I've seen people play around with, along with custom clouds and custom skycolors. So, the past few nights have seen me playing around with settings and testing things out. I'm really happy with my progress, and plan on sharing some screenshots. In fact, there was one post by Murmur quite along time ago that suggested using random weather patterns with system size set to max - my gosh, it was absolutely amazing to see. I'd yet to see as nice of looking weather as that yet in my sim. But normally I'm following the idea of using a very tall layer of scattered cumulus. However, my experimenting with datarefs also led me to playing with setting up the clouds manually via datarefs - a sort of 'make my own theme' kind of thing, that I can choose with a FlyWithLua macro. This led me to realize that I'd really like to have less overall cloud coverage then 'Scattered Cumulus' allows for, while keeping the nice tall fluffy clouds. But choosing 'Few Cumulus' seems to force a 2000' cloud height, no matter what I set via dataref. It also seems to produce these flat-ish not-so-nice looking clouds. So, is there a method to making a very sparse or occasional cloud coverage, while keeping the nice clouds produced via using scattered? Ideally, what I'd like to achieve is where there are nice looking large clouds, but they are spaced randomly, perhaps in small groups, fairly far apart, with lots of blue sky in-between. I think this would be a great representation of the isolated, but rather large cumulus clouds that I see around my area mid afternoon, that later start building up and become larger, perhaps ending as thunderstorms. Is there a way to write the info that XP uses when it shows you what the regenerated weather looks like?
  14. Please do not post any threads in this forum discussing hardware or equipment related issues. We have several members who can provide expert advice and assistance in the Hardware Forums. You can also find topics that might even answer your question. We ask members to please use the report button to alert the Forum Moderators/Admins of their presence and the topic will be moved to the appropriate forum. All such threads will be moved without warning, without exception. All hardware discussions are to be initiated only at the AVSIM Hardware Forums, as follows: MOBO, RAM, CPU's & Other Hardware For discussion of issues with Mother Boards, RAM, CPU's, and other general hardware discussions. http://forum.avsim.n...other-hardware/ Monitors, Video Cards and Drivers Discussion forum for Monitors, Video Cards and Drivers - all things related to the video system of your computer. http://forum.avsim.n...ds-and-drivers/ Hardware Controllers & Drivers This is a forum to discuss issues with Joysticks, pedals, yokes, other interface hardware like panels, etc. http://forum.avsim.n...ollers-drivers/ WIFI, Routers, Ethernet, I/O Boards, etc Discussion forum for the Networks, WIFI, Routers, their I/O boards, a DSL and Cable Modems, etc. http://forum.avsim.n...-io-boards-etc/ Thank you for your cooperation.
  15. If you need to post screen shots of a problem, please limit to 2 or 3 shots. If you need to post a photo collage demonstrating something, please post the screenies in the screenshot forum and then post in the relevant forum with a link to the screenshot thread in that post, so that folks that want to see the pix can go over there to look, and people on tablets or with metered internet connections don't get clobbered with 50 MB of pictures downloading.
  16. AVSIM does not currently host image posting via the attachment system so you will have to link your image from a 3rd party hosting provider such as Photobucket, ImageShack, Google, OneDrive, Imgur, or, the one I use FS Files.org - http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/. Most services provide 5GB's or more of free space to upload your images. Once you upload your image to a hosting provider, the image should have a box in one of the corners that you can check. Once checked, you should be given the option to "get an embed code". Click on that and it will offer HTML embed codes or BBCodes embed codes. AVSIM uses the BBCode system so click on the "BBCode embed' and a link should appear (if not, check with your hosting provider on procedures for obtaining an embed code). Copy the link and then go to your post or topic and paste the link into the topic. You can also choose to link to the file on one of the hosting services too. In that case, the image will now show up on AVSIM and members will be sent to the hosting site to view the image. Your image will not appear until you click on reply or submit topic. If you want to edit the post or topic after you have replied or posted a new topic, you can edit it for up to two hours. If, after two hours, you want further edits, you will have to click on the "Report" button and tell our moderators what action you want taken. One of our members has posted a more detailed explanation in the Screenshot Forum here on AVSIM that may help you if you are still having problems posting an image - Make sure images comply with our Screen Shot Rules - https://www.avsim.com/AVSIM Pages/screen_shot_rules.html/ If you continue to have problems posting an image, please use the Contact Form under the 'Contact Us' tab at the top of the AVSIM Forums.

  18. In order to keep the tips & tricks section useful, the sub-forum has now been made readonly. Any posts and guides created here which prove useful will be moved to this section and will be set as readonly/locked to keep them on-topic. Hopefully, our X-Plane forum will become more useful by making use of the other areas instead of using the "General Discussions" area as a single forum. If you would like to post or update any topics in the tips & tricks section then please let a moderator know.

  24. There is now a new forum for discussing particular X-Plane addons and I've moved over some of the threads there, e.g. (xEnviro, Ortho4XP), In order to keep this area for discussion of the main simulator, please post any topics discussing individual addons into the addons forum http://www.avsim.com/forum/439-x-plane-addons/. Comparisons or advice on which addons to purchase are still fine to post here, however the many posts about specific addons are burying other posts, and having addons discussed in that area should help others who would like to search out and look for information about specific or recommended addons. Thanks for your help keeping the forum tidy.
  25. Due to the nature of some posts, a couple of rules are now in effect in the Mindstar Aviation support forums. 1. All of the Terms Of Service for AVSIM are in effect. 2. All posts will now include a real name, no more anonymous postings. 3. All posts will be courteous. If you can't be polite, don't post.
