  1. Over my homespun Ortho4XP AZ scenery, not far from the AZ/NM border out of El Paso, headed to Phoenix Sky Harbor. My last flight out of El Paso was in a CRJ 200, an aircraft I loved to hate because the windows were so low you had to crane your neck to see out. The CRJ 700/900 fixed the problem in spades, my two fav regional jets with their 2x2 seating. Last flight I took on a CRJ 700/900 was to Santa Ana with my lovely daughter on our way to Disneyland to celebrate one of her birthdays with my grammar school principal and 81 year old friend, Henry Aschbrenner and his wonderful wife Dixie, who came to Disneyland that year to surprise my daughter with a birthday dinner and $50.00 Disney gift card. Mr. Ashbrenner works for Concordia Lutheran University even past age 80 as a fundraiser, former dean of the University and I helped inspire his IT program. We meet yearly for dinner and good spiritual fellowship. He knew of my dream to fly aircraft and was so proud to hear I became a student pilot. In 1975 I did a science fair project on the Rogallo wing vs. the conventional wing, which inspired the Space Shuttle design. My project won third place in the California State science fair and inspired motorized trikes, which I later learned to fly in 2008. My tiny contribution to aviation. I was invited by a CFI for IASCO, which trained JAL pilots on Falcons, Beech turboprops and Pipers, but I could not take them up on their offer due to my other schooling commitments. I did not fly GA until a friend from Highschool, now a Facebook buddy Doug Brambrink, invited me and a friend up for a full moon flight over the SF Bay in 1979. My friend and I felt the inkling to drive to Napa County airport and ran into Doug who simply said "wanna go up". Like the Godfather Don Corleoni he made us an offer we could not refuse or maybe me being an Italian and Godfather of my family I made him a psychic offer he and my friend could not refuse, lol.... Enough of the backstory, on to my pics! Cactus521
  2. A nice flight from my current hometown to another hometown I lived in from the 60's to the 90's, prior to that Burbank and Chicago and a small spell near Washington DC, Gaithersburg MD. I love this route, it takes off to the Northwest, crosses the Colorado river between Lake Havasu City and Laughlin, then on out of my Photo scenery, flying over Death Valley, Owens Valley, Crossing the Sierras near Yosemite and passing Fresno, then finally back into my SF Bay photo scenery for Napa, a wonderful variety of landscape changes for the short two hour real time flight. John
  3. The BD-5, nice lil commuter jet....
  4. Enjoying this nice single engine aircraft for Xplane11, one of five aircraft add-ons I have for Xplane11 from various payware vendors, my most recent addition to my Xplane11 aircraft. I have always loved the look of the 177, looks very contemporary, even nearly 50 years after it first came into existence. More roomy in the backseat than the 172, I almost bought one years ago but I did not have a pilots license and decided not to leap before I looked, so to speak. Took me 30 more years before I could get my first flight lessons after seeing the 177. The Xplane version of Alabeo's 177 includes an autopilot, which their P3D version does not have. John
  5. Enjoying my Phoenix Arizona Ortho scenery and the Mig 15, which I have seen in airshows here in the State (the Red Bull). Red Bull might have been the Mig 17, they look alike.... John
  6. Over my Ortho4XP made Napa Valley scenery, out of Angwin airfield headed towards Calistoga (the now removed gliderport that used to be there)..... John
  7. I enjoy flying over my Ortho Photoreal scenery, which extends from Vegas and covers all of Arizona. I also have the entire SF Bay Area which incorporates the freeware SFO airport and city scenery I have. The screenshots here were taken from a recorded two hour flight from Vegas to Glendale AZ. John
  8. What I like about Xplane11 over other sims is its ability to model low and slow, or the Space Shuttle high over the earth. Went for low and slow again near the AZ Cardinals arena... John
  9. Enjoying a nice flight out of Buckeye and over Phoenix. I snapped shots of my old house and my apartment complex along the way.... John
  10. VSkylabs Motorglider over the northern Napa Valley with my homemade Ortho4XP photo scenery.... John
  11. So, this is my current Ortho4XP coverage: And here are some results (random pics from all over the world - in some you can`t see the terrain, but it is there!). 🙂
  12. Again, the ability to lay autogen on the photoreal adds to added depth and sensation of speed, even in an Ultralight doing 50 knots. John
  13. I have to say the autogen overlay over the photoreal looks spot on, Xplane did a good job in mapping landclass to land with its urban, desert, farm, industrial and city center areas etc... It adds immersion, makes you feel like you are really leaving somewhere... John
  14. I finished my photo scenery of Arizona with a bit of Nevada included (so I could fly from Vegas to Phoenix). I do not have as much photo scenery in Xplane11 as I do in P3DV4 but I wanted to have my home state of Arizona completely covered, which I have. Arizona from the flight levels or from a general aviation VFR flight has mystical landscapes and land formations to look at, deserts and forests, canyons and lakes, and little cities popping up here and there. John
  15. I love the overlay of Xplane11's autogen on my Photoreal central Arizona scenery, looks nice and gives an Ultralight a sensation of speed even 3-4000 feet above the desert. Buckeye is the new home of the Copper State Airshow, Arizona's Oshkosh! John
  16. Ortho4XP allows you to lay autogen over photoreal scenery in Xplane11, something that cannot be done in P3DV4. I am on the fence about whether I like this, because the autogen tends to hide some of the photoscenery at altitude, not sure what I prefer, but I thought I would post. The autogen overlay can be removed if I wish. John
  17. Hi, i got a problem for a couple of days now...i have done this before...but when u are over 45, memory starts to poor out :P First i got "Nvcompress.exe has stopped working, (downloaded NVTools "DDS Utilities" kit, and renamed Nvdxt.exe to Nvcompress.exe...that worked... After i have completed the Batch build, it shows NO errors..nothing..but when i open ..\texture directory, its only *.png files...not a single DDS file...and ofcourse error when i start up X-Plane 11. This is from X-Plane Log.txt I have done some tests with different sources and lvl:s Error, could not locate image file for terrain 0:01:35.152 E/SYS: | Custom Scenery/zOrtho4XP_+57+018/terrain/5008_9008_Hitta14_sea_overlay.ter 0:01:35.152 E/SYS: | Custom Scenery/zOrtho4XP_+57+018/terrain/ 0:01:35.152 E/SYS: | ../textures/ 0:01:35.152 E/SYS: | (REN_terrain.cpp:146) Someone who can help me ? Thanks in advance.
  18. Created ultra high res photoreal of Central Arizona made especially for ultralight flying, took the better part of 24 hours to generate this using Ortho4Xp but it was worth it! John
