Mooney Ovation, a great piston single and classic, fast and economical aircraft, fun to fly with RealityXP installed in Xplane11. It has bags of power, a little fighter in disguise for us piston speed demons. Next up will be P3D's ATR 42 500. John -
I love the initial climbout heading to Socal out of SFO, as one climbs over the south SF Bay then glides past Monterey Bay, reaching cruising altitude right about that point. It is such a scenic part of the route to Socal, passing the Pacific Coast along the San Andreas fault system, looking down at Santa Cruz and deep Monterey Bay and towards Carmel. John

I enjoyed a long and relaxing realtime flight from Catalina to Phoenix today. Had something odd happen though, I noticed my two compass gauges did not agree, so the gps guided me in the wrong direction. I do not know how I did that to Xplane11 but I will have to make a preflight check, to make sure they agree, leaning to the magnetic compass. Edit: I forgot to mention, my Catalina airport, and Sky Harbor Airport, are among the several airports I have from MisterX6. I have his LAX, SAN, SNA and a couple of other scenery gems from him as well. His airports have better performance, at greater detail, than the Xplane11 defaults. John

I love the Alabeo 421C, like the Duke, such a nice twin, so clean looking in the air, and such a capable mid range piston for fuel efficient flights. I love the Alabeo sounds for this aircraft too, the nice rich hum, I have flown in an unpressurized twin Cessna in real life and the sounds are very close from an inside the cabin perspective, at least from my memory since the flight was almost 30 years ago over Venezuela and its tropical rainforests into Canaima. The big lake is Napa County's well known Lake Berryessa, which for the first time in many years went completely full I was told by one of my friends still living in the valley where I was raised. I have biked from the city of Napa to Lake Berryessa, quite a challenge on a 12 speed bike and not recommended for the shy, since the ascent from the Lake over the pass down into Napa is a challenge with almost no shoulder, then 40-45 mph speeds passing up cars descending down into Napa on a steep grade by the Silverado Golf Course, where Johnny Miller used to play when I lived there in the 70's, it is home to a PGA tournament. I have to love the way this sim renders the sky and its aircraft.... It's Vegas recreation is the best, in my opinion, of any sim.... And its photo scenery is well done, with little texture variation and the sharpest textures I've seen, outside of Google Earth. I think this sim shows what Microsoft's next sim will do if it incorporates Vulkan like Aerofly FS2 does..... Hats off to Aerofly for their labor of love, and the entertainment it has added to my suite of three civilian sims and two combat sims (DCS World and Wings of Prey) John

Showing off two inexpensive payware aircraft, VSkylab's Gyroplane for Xplane11, and Ant's Eaglet for P3DV4 and earlier sims. Both locations are Nirvana for me--Napa, where I was raised, and Neuschwanstein, near Fussen Germany, the inspiration for the Disney castles and also prominently featured in the movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", a song of which was always a crowd pleaser during my Gospel choir's concerts when I was a young boy and teen. We were based out of Napa and included secular, as well as sacred music, for our concertgoers. I have an mp3 of a vinyl album we recorded made by Jeff Smith, our secular guitarist and always the favorite of all of us. He sang many songs in memory of the great secular guitarist, who passed way too soon, Jim Croce. Back to the Tecnam Eaglet--for 12 something (I paid ten with my justflight discount points) you cannot go wrong--you get one of the only LSA's available for P3D4.5 and same holds true for the VSkylab's Gyroplane, the only realistic flying Gyro I have ever flown, I still give Xplane11 the nod when it comes to Rotorcraft simulation. The Gyroplane has a startup procedure that must be followed--it has a clutch you must engage to prerotate the rotor blades, then just before you begin your takeoff roll, you disengage the clutch. This afternoon, when I flew it for these screenshots, I had a zero roll landing, otherwise it does STOL takeoffs. John John

Enstrom copter ported from FSX via FlyAway Simulations. Has simple VC and good handling, arguably the best handling I've experienced in a P3D copter.... I first went thru the St. Gotthard, via rail tunnel, in 1977 on my way from Milan to Luzern. I went thru it in the other direction via road tunnel, the longest I have ever been thru, in 1984 from North to South, on my way to Venice from Luzern. Last, i flew over it in a Lufthansa 737, in both directions, on a business flight from Frankfurt to Bologna and back in 1995. The southbound Lufthansa flight was funny. I flew from Phoenix to Pittsburgh, then Pittsburgh to Frankfurt on a US Airways 767, one of my nicest flights ever. While waiting with a massive case of jet lag, since I rarely sleep on airplanes, I was in the departure lounge to Bologna when out of my blurry eyes I noticed a dark skin colored man from India staring at me. Finally he got up, sat next to me and said "JOHN, what are you doing HERE!". He was a former colleague and close friend from India who I had worked with a year a half before, before he left my company to return to India to be with his family and take up a job at home. As I was flying in from Frankfurt, he was flying in the opposite direction from Delhi to Bologna! Not the first time in my business travel that serendipity like that has happened to me, it has happened to me quite a few times, meeting former colleagues, even family, on layovers, like happened to me in 1990 on a layover in Caracas, Venezuela. As we boarded the Lufthansa flight, my friend wanted to talk to me on our flight to Bologna, where he also had business to conduct. He shooed out the passenger next to my window seat, and we talked the entire flight southbound over the St. Gotthard pass to Bologna. He was a life saver, because I had not exchanged money for Italian Lira back then, so he paid for my bus fare from the Airport to my destination, where we parted ways. An angel of mercy for me that day, tired as I was. My landing on Lufthansa in Bologna was the worst landing ever. As we were in ground effect before touchdown, the pilot flared too early and we slammed into the runway from about fifteen feet, opening many overhead bins and dropping contents on the floor. In my suitcase, a bottle of cologne was broken, so I got many cute remarks on how I smelled by my client there, lol! Worst landing ever in my life. John

Xplane11.35b Out of Lubbock in a personal jet

I like this chopper more than any I have, for Xplane11 or P3DV4.5. It has wonderful manners and although made for FSX, it can be installed in P3D4.x by just pointing the installer to P3D's main folder. I miss the old Munch brother's Rotorway which had a similar sleek appearance to the Enstrom, but the Enstrom fills the void for me in the 3 place copter category. It has several model variations, including the two shown here. The float model is shown near Napa's Lake Berryessa. I have included a link to this fine lil' chopper... I usually add one payware title a month to either P3D or Xplane, but I've been enjoying Xplane11 so much lately that I am moving my momentum in add-ons to that sim. P3DV4 is alright, but I just feel I see better things when I fly in Xplane11, each aircraft that I buy feels like I expect it would, and even though Xplane11 does not have seasons, it just "looks" to me like what I see when I fly in real life, at any altitude, and whether it is default scenery or photo scenery I fly over, it just looks fine. RealityXP works in it, like it does in the P3D world, and I like that presence of information and flight planning, that makes this hobby and my learning how to fly different from one day to the next. I will keep P3DV4, the Lockheed Vega I have flown this past week is amazing to fly, as are many other add ons I have there. But my preference is about two thirds Xplane11, and one third P3DV4, maybe because Laminar is the Little Engine that could, if you know that children's story, Laminar kept our hobby alive during the void when Microsoft dropped the MSFS series and before Lockheed Martin saved our memories for us, which I owe them greatly for, because of all the add ons I was able to freely move from MSFS to P3DV4, saving me a small fortune. Since I am in forced retirement from a terrible car accident, I was almost ready to return to the workforce, then I got run over by an errant driver who did not stop or care about a pedestrian in a crosswalk, I am flying these sims several hours a day, just so I have some connection to the life I almost lost and distraction from the horrendous, remembered pain. Like Frodo in Lord of the Rings who was stabbed by a Morgul Blade, I will always remember being hurt. But for me, Xplane11, and P3DV4, are my Gray Havens to enjoy, thanks to the courage of those like Jim Young and Tom who have kept our forums up for so long, for free, just because they love what we loved. Xplane11.34 Carenado PC12, Reno towards Bishop

Carenado has just updated the PC12 for Xplane11, I am flying the new update here from Reno-Stead down the Sierra crest, to Owens Valley. Views of Tahoe, Virginia City, and Mono Lake along the way. I used my overlays over my photo scenery to add some depth, and ground auto traffic. John -
This is a nice one hour or so flight between a good pair of cities, with scenery transitioning from Texas farmland to high desert, then to the Valley of the Sun. John

This is a wonderful pair of cities to fly between, and the Premier 1A makes it a short flight at FL400. I love the transition of scenery, from the North SF Bay, to farmland, to the High Sierra and finally a shot of Death Valley, and the pristine desert around and into Vegas, then the strip with its resorts all lined up. John

Love the way the cloud shadows play over the desert photo scenery and California's Inland Empire near Ontario and towards LAX. RealityXP guided me on vectors to my final approach, I love the automation in the busy LAX airspace. John
