  1. Airlifting 90 tons away from Dan Andrews UPS apparently serve four big airports in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth and have 747-400Fs flying out of Sydney. https://www.pressroom.ups.com/pressroom/ContentDetailsViewer.page?ConceptType=FactSheets&id=1426321549949-957 However, I don't have a payware 747, but I do have (of course! ) a payware MD-11 which has certainly got the reach to get across the continent for my purposes: YMML to YPPH. An early start. +VE Rate.. Climbing away. We'll be cutting the corner across the southern coast of Australia. ...and feet dry again. Initial descent towards Perth. All dirtied up. We were vectored to the ILS for RWY24, but I wanted RWY21 as the wind was blowing from 200.. and there's a lot more tarmac to use . ATC told us to sideslip to 21.. This will be interesting.. Not pretty, but we can deal with it.. (FSX NOTAM -I couldn't get the RWY21 ILS to align until I'd almost got her lined up manually after getting worried I'd fly past the airport). I didn't want to show you the rate of descent... the amount of time it takes the engines to spool up also concentrates the mind.. Touchdown.. and.. BOUNCE! There we go! G'Day Perth. Cheers.
  2. Over on Youtube, Air Clips have finally posted the 3rd leg of a Lufthansa MD-11F return trip to Frankfurt, piloted by Inge and Claudia, namely Hong Kong to Novosibirsk, so of course I decided to follow suit with my own simulated MD-11f flight. Link to their trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbXoFFBxglY TOW of 263 tons at VHHH. Fuel 64900kg, I had 65 tons on board. I think cargo was 65 tons (I misheard. I think Inge said more than 84 tons on on board!)... In the sim, the pilot flying, i.e ME! may be far uglier looking, but the jet is still beautiful.. Climbing out of Hong Kong (FSX NOTAM: I had inadvertently reduced the shipping traffic below 5% so the Global AI shipping wasn't present!). Somewhere over mainland China.. Somewhere over Mongolia.. and again... Descending to UNNT for visual RWY25...Visual? OK I believe you..! This is going to be a little bumpy.. Out from under the clag.. Hmm.. They were right about the visual approach. Still a tad windy though.. Actually, the wind wasn't too bad.. (FSX NOTAM - need to check the ILS course. According to AIE (ILS inspection tool) the ILS for 25 is 252 degrees, but the sim still has 251 - may need to have a dive into Airport Design Editor. There's certainly an offset!) She's down.. Nicely detailed airport with a big, illuminated sign in case I forget where I am.🍻 As per the real world trip, the freighter is pushed back into its parking spot. Novosibirsk is only a fuel stop - no cargo being unloaded on this occasion. Cheers!
  3. Thanks to my discovery of IVAO's Concorde Anniversary Round The World Tour I now have several routes suitable for the supersonic beauty. https://www.ivao.aero/Worldtour/2017/sst/Concorde World Tour 2017a.pdf The second flight is from KJFK to SOCA. Definitely filing an IFR flight plan!! I do wish the lighting was a little bit better for taxiing out. Right. Time to let New York know that we're on the way! What do you mean overspeed?? She IS speed! (FSX NOTAM - still getting to grips with the airspeed in the climb..) Descending towards French Guiana and slowing down. Being vectored for the RWY08 ILS ...and overshooting the localiser.. Got her down OK. (FSX NOTAM - shame the bogies don't pivot..) Welcome to Cayenne – Félix Eboué Airport Enjoy! Despite its quirks, I still like the DC Designs offering, especially as it was released in the twilight years - some might say complete dark age - of FSX.. 🍻
  4. Preparing to return to Liege - only carrying 20 tons of bit & bobs.. Climbing out above the haze - tri-holer power! Crossing into Turkey. I did wave to Blackbox Simulations in Malta as I went by.. no one waved back.. Do they not realise I'm a fan?? Lake Iznik just hidden by the glareshield. Sea of Marmara in view. Beginning descent to EBLG we'll be taking the RWY23L ILS today. Slats out to aid manoeuvring with a bit of speed. Waiting for localiser capture. Once she was aligned on the localiser and prior to G/S going active I had the runway in sight so it was AP off and fly her manually with the instrument cues. Not doing a bad job so far IMNSHO Touchdown..🍻 Job done. Cheers!🍻
  5. Just me, a big girl in the moonlight... and jet noise... Same flight plan as the A330 trip EGGP to LPPR, except using the A340-300 and finding out that SIDs and STARs can be input into the MCDU after loading in the plan from the company route folder... I don't think I used a transition though.. more research.. D'oh..
  6. I recently upgraded from the free Southend to the Xtreme Southend from UK2000. granted I didn't show much of the airport in these shots, but so far, so good. Took the Skymaster up for a jaunt, headed roughly NNW, nowhere in particular, no flight plan, and landed when my wife got back from the shops.. Cheers 🍻
  7. Sadly, this flight went all screwy near Iceland and thus never reached its destination of Copenhagen... Air Greenland's hub is at Kangerlussuaq on the western side of Greenland. They have one "heavy" - an Airbus A330-200 which is used for their Copenhagen route (most other Air Greenland flights are internal). Winter in the northern hemisphere means that there's not a lot of sunlight at higher latitudes. Climbing away from BGSF. Opinions are mixed on being able to see the Milky Way at altitude, and what you actually see. I like this: By dawn's early light.. Here you can see the lat/long waypoints of the flight plan on the MFD. After this the 'Bus entered its "What's it doing now?" procedure. Appearing to circle around a waypoint, circling but not follwing an oval as it would in a holding pattern. By deleting some points and reloading a saved flight I did get closer to Iceland. Here's the last screenshot I took before abandoning the flight. Granted I could have switched to heading mode and "manually" follwo the green line, but I was annoyed both with myself and what the plane was doing.. Hope you enjoyed the screenies anyway! 🍻
  8. A better trip! I may be getting a little more used to the quirks in the bird, not to mention my FSX setup (other post in the FSX forum..). Climbing like a homesick angel away from KJFK. In real life, Concorde and her crews were rather good at sticking it to the noise abatement crowd who really didn't want Concorde's roaring Olympus orchestra creating stillborn children or scaring cattle (or whatever..) - but due to her manoeuvrability she aced all the noise detectors in a climbing turn which loaded 747s struggled to match . I reckon it was sour grapes because Boeing's SST 2707 never got beyond a mock up, but that's just my opinion! The fact was she passed the noise detection. Note that the 2707 was indeed a wondrously amazing-looking behemoth with swing wings and a two-joint drooping nose. I had a model of one way back and I for one was a fan & would have loved to have seen it actually fly, had it worked as hoped! 🍻.. Sorry. I digress. Goodbye NYC. Subsonic climb to reach open ocean. I'll have to investigate the overspeed parameters.. Mach 2+ west to east. It gets dark even quicker, but a lovely view up here. I probably should have made a flight plan which routed me south of Ireland and then I would no doubt have decelerated towards the Bristol Channel.. I believe I may have disturbed the tranquillity of the Emerald Isle. I can just imaging Bishop Brennan castigating Father Ted, "CRILLEE!! What the feck and damnation was that noise?!! You didn't buy Father Dougal that chemistry set he's been after did you?" (totally made up scenario, but the Father Ted series was being broadcast when Concorde was still flying). Actually , not long after this shot was taken, the stock ATC gave me an initial descent.. Subsonic now and approaching the North Wales coastline. We're being vectored for an ILS approach to RWY23R. Somewhere above the nose in the picture is BAe Warton, Blackpool airport is the large, dark expanse above the tail. No shots of the runway from the cockpit, I was too busy juggling off the AP and AT - it wasn't pretty. I had her in NAV mode and whilst she did turn towards the localiser, I forgot to press ILS... (FSX NOTAM - I'm sure that at 3000 feet, one intercepts the glideslope from below.. however, the gauge was showing the arrow at the bottom of its travel. I think it had begun to move up the display... before I decided to go manual.) I landed long & with a ground effect bounce! Taxiing in, nose pointed at the Airport Hotel! I reckon I need a beer after that flight! Shutdown. SODE kind of works too! Cheers! 🍻
  9. I haven't felt this good about a landing for some time.. more about it later. A bit of a long story with the images, but this was a "proper" flight in so far as how I usually fly the big jets in FSX (load up a flight plan into FSX and have the stock ATC along for the ride and final vectoring... ). It was an experiment to see if the haters of the product are actually right and I should bin it as not fit for purpose (MY answer is most definitely not!!). Note I said haters of the product and not haters of the developer's way of handling their business. That is a totally different kettle of fish! Thanks to the excellent IMHO Pre Flight Manager, this DHL liveried A330 freighter is off to Shannon with a pretty hefty load of cargo, about 64 tons.. , just because I can and wanted to get some more flight time with the BBS 'Bus and see how she fares when close to MTOW. (Very well I think.) Note that this flight is carried out with an FS9 flightplan input into the MCDU via the Company Routes folder (also loaded into the stock FSX planner so I can get vectors into EINN), just so I can gradually get into FMS programming. Mind you, I have to shell out for a Navigraph subscription to get current data into the MCDU and not vintage 2012 data which it comes with... so the FS9 plan is a good enough fudge until I do so. I believe that EDDP is DHL's main European hub... although strangely quiet in my sim... (I hardly have any stock AI traffic switched on). Lined up on 26L (MCDU defaulted to 04 ??? but it allowed me to change that. ) Goodbye Leipzig.. (I think I've got a texture missing despite installing all the libraries, allegedly..) Feet wet! Flying over the North Sea, bound for Blighty, past what I believe are the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes (the array of small lakes and channels near the coast). Feet dry over England.🍻 ... and about to go feet wet again over the Irish Sea. If you look just above the bottom seal of the window, between the pen and the shades, you might be able to make out Liverpool Airport.. Passing by the isle of Anglesey. Descending over the Emerald Isle on the way to EINN. So far so good! I was vectored on to an ILS approach for RWY24. The autopilot is getting us established on the localiser (I've only done a couple of visual landings prior to this). Not sure the actual course for the localiser is correct - sim or MCDU.. but it'll get me close enough for this flight (further experimentation needed). Runway in site - get rid of the autopilot, but not the autothrottle as per real life. Touchdown! Now... can anyone tell me what is so wrong with the BBS Airbus in the way it acts? This is why I felt good about the landing as i mentioned at the beginning fo the post. I glanced at the PFD sings at the top of the display on my approach. From G/S it switched to LAND and then, just as I was panicking a little (stop faffing with the stick!!), it changed to FLARE as I was getting the height callouts 50...40...30... etc. I closed the throttles and pulled back on the stick a little and was greeted with ..10...... 10... I floated a little! I assume that because I'd closed the throttles I didn't get the RETARD callout? Then down she went on the starboard main gear first, followed by the port mains. No bounce! She didn't go into an unrecoverable 1000 plus f/pm plummet at any time. When I needed to flare, she responded to my stick input instantly. Now granted, I totally guessed at the approach speed: She's almost at max payload weight and carrying some excess fuel, so based on her nose up attitude all dirtied up then 145 knots seemed good to me. Did I misuse the approach procedure, is the flare law still wrong in this bird and the 340? I wouldn't know. All I do know is that she stayed in the air for me and landed fine. Perhaps the secret was carrying a few knots extra speed (look at where the yellow line begins on the speed tape in the screenshot above..)?? No doubt real 'Bus drivers will scoff... and they are of course totally allowed to do so! I look forward to some discussion and education on the subject. 🍻 Shutdown at the ramp... Hello, little one! The 737 landed after I did. (NOTAM: Here I did find a flaw - the cargo doors do not open, only the front left and right cabin doors!! Not that this aspect bothers FS2020 users of course! ) Enjoy! I certainly did, trying to get used to this electric jet
  10. I re-did my flight from YAYE to YSSY with a successful outcome, so here are the screenshots as I approached Sydney. The FMC acted a bit strange - to me anyway, but I'll probably pose the question in the flight planning forum. I suspect it is down to my lack of understanding. I didn't have the plan loaded into FSX itself so I did not have ATC vectoring me around. I just wanted to see the FMC in action and deal with the fact that the 146-100 doesn't have a VNAV autopilot function. Here I am, following some kind of descent profile for an approach to RWY34L. I ended up landing with a bit of a tailwind as, by the time I got to Sydney, the METAR had changed. I left the FMC well alone. Whilst the AP managed to intercept the localiser nicely, it didn't want to pick up the glideslope, However as soon as I saw the runway I switched it off anyway. Thanks to the clamshell airbrake, being high wasn't that big a deal There we go! Shutdown... and... Oi !! Where's my stairs and ground support equipment??!! Stupid bloody Galahs !! Cheers!🍻
  11. Today I was going to try a flight out in my newly repainted 146-100 (thank you @hodge001 Lovely job!) private jet from Connellan Airport to Sydney using a flightplan input into the FMC. I managed to successfully input this, including an appropriate STAR (after checking the YSSY METAR) so I was feeling quite pleased with myself. There doesn't appear to be any SIDs that I could find for YAYE, nor does the FMC appear to have any in its database (Navigraph subscription, so any SIDs "should" be there). Please correct me if I'm wrong. Here's G-W4GN with ground power attached as it''ll take me some time to mess with the FMC..... Don't want to burn any fuel until it's required! Mercedes have their own G-Wagons, which are capable 4x4s, but mine's faster and can fly Taxiing out to RWY13. Positive rate as we begin our journey across the hostile Australian continental interior. Had to get a screenshot including the famous Aussie landmark! View from business class of the Number 2 APU... sorry I mean engine.. Some of the panel lighting whilst cruising at FL300 ... and then, after mistakenly switching to spot view instead of locked the sim crashed... On the bright side, the FMC and the autopilot were working fine. Oh well I shall attempt the flight again. Cheers...🍻
  12. Having discovered that one can indeed import a plan from an online flight planner into the BBS MCDU (as long as the plan is FS9 format and placed into the Company Routes folder), I decided to have a go at a full IFR flight with a complex Airbus add-on and I was very pleased. No doubt you Aerosoft and FSLabs guys are giggling away at the back, but hey, I've never used anything apart from a freeware Airbus before... and it works for me. 🍻 Imagine a fantasy of flight... A certain brightly coloured A330 owned by Etihad (A6-EYE) has been brought back out of storage for a trip to Porto - one of the opponents of a certain football (soccer) team in 2021 apparently. Therefore here's a reconnaissance mission, not without its pitfalls.. Blue Moon Rising preparing to leave Liverpool John Lennon, bound for Porto in Portugal. Stanlow Oil Refinery in the background. (FSX NOTAM: Eh? Liverpool? Well it's smaller than EGCC so I'd hoped there was less chance of an OOM whilst I was faffing about !) Taxiing out to RWY27 OK. Lined up. Spool up the engines, listen for the "KER-LACK" as the throttles hit the detent for a flex takeoff (I just fudged a number into the MCDU just to try a "flex" takeoff). See that the notification comes up in the top left hand corner of the PFD (not shown here as I'd not advanced the throttles..). I'd also changed the pressure setting of the altimeter so that the amber CHECK ALT notification was extinguished. (I don't think the "B" command for default FSX alt setting works with this 'Bus. Bye bye EGGP. Once she's cleaned up and settled, then a warning bleep tells me to lower climb and I move the throttles back (KER-LACK!) to the CL detent - AKA Autothrottle. The MCDU knows that the limit is 250 knots below 10000 feet and then speeds up to 320 in this case above 10000. Turning on to course, overflying Stanlow. We'll be climbing up to FL390 today. Cardiff Airport off to starboard and Barry Island off to port.. (I know I've got the blurries, but my LOD is set to 4.5...) On up to FL350 initially.. the First Officer's getting ready to read Tractor & Farming Heritage magazine.. We all need our hobbies... Passing by the coast of Brittany, it appears we are not alone: How are you doing down there? Keeping pace with each other over the Bay of Biscay. The Spanish and Portuguese coast.. Beginning our descent towards Porto. FSX NOTAM I'll have to have another read of the "manual". When selecting a descent the Airbus decided she was going to exceed 4000fpm (OP DSC or something??) or so until I'd commanded otherwise - impressive stuff! I do note that the autopilot and autothrottle responses are very impressive - I'd left the descent rate at around 2500fpm and forgotten to reduce this a bit as we neared the selected altitude yet the plane didn't undershoot or porpoise about - I have to baby the Sky Sim MD-11 AP in this regard... At 10000 going through the murk.. This isn't pretty and it took a while to get here, but we'll be OK... Down.. and on the runway...added bonus! Interesting flight. Phew! I had an interesting flight for several reasons: After being cleared to 10000 feet or so, it appears that the default ATC forgot about us and I ended up cancelling IFR and using the autopilot manually to get back close to LPPR, then hand flew a visual into RWY35. Even with the autopilot turned off, the autothrottle is separate and it was interesting to see the engine readouts respond to my pitching up and down (I'd guessed at a reasonable approach speed of 135 knots!!). I had a couple of sink rate warnings on the approach, but you can see I was a little high and just left the descent rate as it was until closer to the ground. I retarded the throttles to idle before landing (she didn't shout at me) but I managed to get a "FIVE" callout on the altitude strangely enough I'm not enough of a pilot to know what's wrong with the "flare" law in the BBS widebodies.. Another good reason I had an interesting flight was the satisfaction in watching an electric jet do what it's supposed to do insofar as the displays and the throttles seem to me, to pretty much do what I'd seen from watching Airbus takeoffs on YouTube. Things to do - consult the AVSIM membership on how to fly this new fangled airliner....I'll have to see if I can reload a saved flight and see what state its in... I'll try and find a way of inputting departure and arrival runways into the generated flight plan - SIDs and STARs if I get that far too. Also see how it shoots an ILS. Cheers! 🍻
  13. It's been a while LOL! In my ongoing trip to Sydney paying extremely rough homage to the 1969 Air Race, I decided that I should reposition to Dubai because trying to get to Karachi would no doubt leave me a bit short in the avgas department. The real Islanders had ferry tanks as you all know. Not too many pics as I just flew almost direct to Dubai down the Persian Gulf. A bit of haze moving over OKBK Miles of water to go... Dodging some building thunder clouds to relieve the tedium! Visual for RWY12L OMDB Down she goes. Maybe an iced tea rather than getting the kettle on perhaps? Cheers.🍻
