  1. Not often shared in this forum, scenery of Provo and the surrounding area and the beautiful Wasatch range in Utah. I flew the cousin of the Eurofox, the Kitfox, over this area in 2006 or 2007. But the Kitfox struggled to climb, even with a Rotax 912, due to the high altitude. However we were able to climb and our altitude was about the same as these screenshots. We did not fly from Provo, we flew from Spanish Fork since it was an uncontrolled airfield with little traffic nearby. In the distance on that flight we did see some air force traffic to our North... Spanish Fork airport is in the first picture, in this sim flight I took off from Provo and landed at Spanish Fork, then taxied back to the runway and took off again to the west to duplicate my Kitfox flight. So cool VSkylabs models microlights.. John
  2. I found this cool little Spacecraft that can take off from a runway and soar into orbit at hypersonic speeds... My flight this afternoon was beautiful, taking off from the Shuttle runway at Cape Canaveral (needing almost all 15000 feet of it) then turning to the southeast, over the Bermuda Triangle and on towards the coast of Africa. I find Xplane11 models the atmosphere to orbital transition very well, hitting the threshold of space around 250,000 feet, as the wind and thrust noise reduces to zero. Once in orbit it is a slow ride over the globe, the goal is to reach about 17,500 mph, orbital speed. I was longing for something to fill the niche of a single stage to orbit aircraft, making Xplane11 an all purpose flightsim, as I have aircraft from a 20 mph powered parachute on up to this little bird. The aircraft can be found at Xplane.org in their download section, it was just added in December. Granted Xplane11's high altitude scenery is rather bland, but you still get an idea of the speed of orbital flight and the serene beauty of space. Cactus521
  3. For those who love VFR, Seat of the Pants, great value add-ons for any sim, The VSkylabs Eurofox delivers, a recommendation from me, a real life Light Sport and Trike pilot (but grounded the past eleven years due to seizures). People argue that sims cannot recreate the "feel" of real flight, that they just are not there yet. I disagree, with the right flight model they are there. I wrote a flight model for my FSX/P3D Trike that nailed my trike flying experience spot on, from stall speed (25 knots) to a cruise of 40 knots. This Eurofox, along with Xplane11's own Aerolight 103 Ultralight, nails the flight envelope of a Light Sport experimental spot on. In an earlier post I mentioned I had flown two models similar to it--the XAir H and the Kitfox, both similar in weight, handling, balance and useful load. With rudder one can as I was taught "draw the box" with this aircraft, my Flight Instructor Phil Leroy in Willcox AZ taught me to use rudder and ailerons to draw an imaginary box on the horizon to teach good coordination. He said he made me an ace in coordinated flight and everyone I flew with after said the same thing. But I had the last laugh because I switched to trikes, where there is no rudder, just weight shift, to control the bank and pitch. That is why trikes are inherently one of the safest forms of flight, as are PPC's, also modeled in freeware in Xplane11. Blade theory works in flight simulation because I have not found an aircraft in Xplane that does not handle the extremes of the flight envelope, from low to hypersonic speeds. P3DV4 is also good, I do not knock their way of flight modeling, because I have created slow speed trikes and a high speed Lost in Space, Jupiter 2 model. End backstory, enjoy the pics, this forum is still my favorite hangout because it is where we bring the hobby to fruition, not only to advertise for add-ons, payware and freeware but to share our experience and skills, whether only limited to simming or a mix of real world and sim flight. All the best! Cactus521 (for those who wonder, my call sign honors US Airways and their pilots, like Sully, formerly the callsign of my hometown airline, America West. I worked for USAirways/American on their Union/Crew Scheduling project under a short term contract in 2014. It was the epiphany of my simming experience because I wanted to add an airline to my career experience, just to say my flight experience brought me into the field of real aviation. Just for a bit, but it was enough for bragging rights, lol)
  4. Then I thought about driving to the airport, picking up my Eurofox, and flying over Meteor Crater. Easy to find, take off out of Winslow, head due west or slightly south of it. You cannot see it coming unless you climb to about 4000 feet AGL or so John
  5. Over my homespun Ortho4XP AZ scenery, not far from the AZ/NM border out of El Paso, headed to Phoenix Sky Harbor. My last flight out of El Paso was in a CRJ 200, an aircraft I loved to hate because the windows were so low you had to crane your neck to see out. The CRJ 700/900 fixed the problem in spades, my two fav regional jets with their 2x2 seating. Last flight I took on a CRJ 700/900 was to Santa Ana with my lovely daughter on our way to Disneyland to celebrate one of her birthdays with my grammar school principal and 81 year old friend, Henry Aschbrenner and his wonderful wife Dixie, who came to Disneyland that year to surprise my daughter with a birthday dinner and $50.00 Disney gift card. Mr. Ashbrenner works for Concordia Lutheran University even past age 80 as a fundraiser, former dean of the University and I helped inspire his IT program. We meet yearly for dinner and good spiritual fellowship. He knew of my dream to fly aircraft and was so proud to hear I became a student pilot. In 1975 I did a science fair project on the Rogallo wing vs. the conventional wing, which inspired the Space Shuttle design. My project won third place in the California State science fair and inspired motorized trikes, which I later learned to fly in 2008. My tiny contribution to aviation. I was invited by a CFI for IASCO, which trained JAL pilots on Falcons, Beech turboprops and Pipers, but I could not take them up on their offer due to my other schooling commitments. I did not fly GA until a friend from Highschool, now a Facebook buddy Doug Brambrink, invited me and a friend up for a full moon flight over the SF Bay in 1979. My friend and I felt the inkling to drive to Napa County airport and ran into Doug who simply said "wanna go up". Like the Godfather Don Corleoni he made us an offer we could not refuse or maybe me being an Italian and Godfather of my family I made him a psychic offer he and my friend could not refuse, lol.... Enough of the backstory, on to my pics! Cactus521
  6. The Eclipse and well modeled Light Sport Eurofox, Xplane11 used to have few add-ons compared to my bounty in P3DV4 but now I've almost matched my add-on count in both sims, which gives me a neverending set of new flights to plan. My Xplane11 Orthoscenery runs from Carlsbad New Mexico and South along the Mexico/American border up into all of Arizona, parts of Texas, Nevada, and two thirds of California. Ran out of drive space for now, until I shuffle some things to my C drive. It is just nice to have hours upon hours of scenery available, at any speed. John
