  1. Hi again folks, I bought and installed DX10 Fixer. Everything sure looks good In CCC Catalyst Control Center setup a FSX profile where AA is overide application settings. AA samples at 4eQ, and AA supersampling. (As per chapter 6 of the docs) I have set up the FSX display settings as per chapter 5 of the docs. (Filtering Anisotropic and Anti Aliasing ticked) I wonder if you could cast an eye on my FSX.cfg (Below) and tell me if there is anything in it I don't need or should not have. I run a A10 CPU and a R9 200 Series GPU rig. My FSX.cfg may contain things I may not need now as I tweaked it in the past. (Removed all the irrelivent stuff for posting it here. Saving space) [GRAPHICS] SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693500672 SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672 D3D10=1 MultiSamplesPerPixel=8 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 NUM_LIGHTS=8 AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=0 AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1 COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1 LANDING_LIGHTS=1 AC_SELF_SHADOW=1 EFFECTS_QUALITY=2 GROUND_SHADOWS=0 TEXTURE_QUALITY=3 IMAGE_QUALITY=0 See_Self=1 Text_Scroll=0 HIGHMEMFIX=1 ForceFullScreenVSync=1 ForceWindowedVSync=1 ALLOW_SHADER_30=1 MultiSampleQuality=0 [bUFFERPOOLS] UsePools=0 // Poolsize=0 *Disabled atm* // RejectThreshold=131072 [Display] ChangeTime=4.000000 TransitionTime=4.000000 ActiveWindowTitleTextColor=255,255,255 ActiveWindowTitleBackGroundColor=0,28,140,64 NonActiveWindowTitleTextColor=255,255,255 NonActiveWindowTitleBackGroundColor=24,33,87,64 InfoUpperRightTextColor=255,0,0 InfoUpperRightBackGroundColor=0,0,0,0 InfoLowerLeftTextColor=255,255,255 InfoLowerLeftBackGroundColor=255,0,0,128 InfoLowerRightTextColor=255,255,255 InfoLowerRightBackGroundColor=255,0,0,128 InfoBrakesEnable=True InfoParkingBrakesEnable=True InfoPauseEnable=True InfoSlewEnable=True InfoStallEnable=True InfoOverspeedEnable=True BLOOM_EFFECTS=0 SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1 TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120 // Was set at TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 WideViewAspect=True // Dont think this is needed TextureMaxLoad=30 // UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=20 [Main] DisablePreload=1 User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc ProcSpeed=7532 PerfBucket=7 Maximized=2 Location=453,491,1493,1269,\\.\DISPLAY1 HideMenuNormal=0 HideMenuFullscreen=1 FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.20 [Weather] WindshieldPrecipitationEffects=1 MinGustTime=10 MaxGustTime=500 MinGustRampSpeed=1 MaxGustRampSpeed=200 MinVarTime=5 MaxVarTime=50 MinVarRampSpeed=10 MaxVarRampSpeed=75 TurbulenceScale=1.000000 WeatherServerAddress=fs2k.zone.com WeatherServerPort=80 WeatherGraphDataInDialog=0 AdjustForMagVarInDialog=1 DynamicWeather=0 DownloadWindsAloft=0 DisableTurbulence=0 CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=3 DETAILED_CLOUDS=1 CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=7 THERMAL_VISUALS=0 [DISPLAY.Device.AMD Radeon R9 200 Series.0] Mode=1920x1080x32 AntiAlias=1 Anisotropic=1 [sCENERY] LENSFLARE=1 DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1 IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=4 SmallPartRejectRadius=1 [TrafficManager] AirlineDensity=33 GADensity=41 FreewayDensity=25 ShipsAndFerriesDensity=22 LeisureBoatsDensity=20 IFROnly=0 AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=2 [TERRAIN] LOD_RADIUS=4.500000 MESH_COMPLEXITY=100 MESH_RESOLUTION=24 TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29 AUTOGEN_DENSITY=3 DETAIL_TEXTURE=1 WATER_EFFECTS=5 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=4376 // This was set at TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=4500 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=2800 // This was set at TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000 SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2 [Misc] Com_Rate=7 [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14 [FSDREAMTEAM] AntiPopUp=1 ViewOptimization=0 AltitudeCull=1 GroundTraffic=1 [AccelerationPack] ControlsFirstRun=0 HomePageFirstRun=0 [MULTIPLAYER] condAccoutPassword=0 VoiceVolume=-0.000000 If there is anything in there I no longer need please could you advise and I shall remove it. 2. I am sure this will be asked 1,000 times, so I appreciate your patience in advance. I am a long-time gamer but new to flight sims. I have enjoyed flight sim videos on youtube for a while and with the advent of MSFS20, I had an idea: My dad is retired, ex-Navy who was a navigator on nuclear subs. I suspect if I gifted him a new PC with MSFS20 plus controllers, he would enjoy it very much. (He played MSFS many many years ago and is computer savvy.) My questions are: 1) Do you have a buying guide for controllers? (Yoke, throttle, pedals, etc.) I see the Logitec throttle and yoke on Amazon running for about $300. I see the more serious simmers saying they aren't great in the amazon reviews, but many people saying they are good entry-level stuff and they score 4.5 stars out of hundreds of reviews. Looking for entry level and spending under $500. 2) Should I buy pedals right away or wait? 3) One of my goals is to play remotely with my Dad. I assume MSFS will allow us to either fly together in separate planes or for one of us to take the role of co-pilot. Can anyone confirm? 4) Any other advise? Thanks agian!
  3. Hello All. My name is Jeremy. I am 26 and live near Seattle. I am finally able to get back into flight sim after an almost 4 year hiatus. I own FSX steam edition and have a few add on for it (Mainly the Aerosoft A320 family) My Original plan was to go ahead and buy the PDMG 737 so I could have two out of my five favs but it appears PMDG doesn't sell the FSX 737 anymore (Which I get FSX is very old now and plus with P3D and FS2020) but at same time I don't see it worth upgrading (To as I don't really do Vatsim or use AI traffic ((Though I will be able to now when my computer comes in I was on a laptop using integrated graphics with two cores so couldn't)) but at same time I really want to be able to get the PDMG 737 and perhaps the 777 the Quality Wings 787 heck the Flight Sim Labs Airbus sounds epic too. I guess my question is should I move over to P3D and if so which version do I get?
  4. Hey Guys, I need some advice and help on a new computer build to run FSX: SE on maximum graphics or close to it. Please look at the parts that I plan on using to build the computer below: CPU Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK ATX LGA1150 Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 SSD Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" SSD Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Video Card Asus Radeon R9 270X 2GB DirectCU II Case Corsair 760T Black ATX Full Tower Power Supply SeaSonic 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Optical Drive Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) Sound Card Asus Xonar D1 Wireless Network Adapter Asus PCE-N53 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1
  5. I have a 5 year old CYBERPOWERPC computer with the specs shown below. The only change I made was to upgrade the primary HD is a Samsung EVO 500gb, I want to upgrade to be able to run my PMDG, Carenado, Rex, ASN, and similar with all the bells and whistles on 3 screens at least 25FPS with decent slider settings. Thinking I want at least a new 970 card, and an overclocked I7 6770 chip. Advice on what to keep, what to replace appreciated, particularly with respect to the MB, CPU, Video card, Ram, cooling etc. If you think I should just buy new, that's fine -- I value your opinions!! Budget isn't really an issue -- I want a great rig, without wasting money. 6. As Christmas nears I'm looking at potentially indulging myself and investing in a new rig. Below are the specifications for my current computer, which while adequate to run FS2004 with REX, ASE, and other various sceneries and addons, obviously isn't ideal for more intensive simulators, i.e., FSX, XPlane, P3D. And while it is sufficient, it is being pushed rather hard. Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Nvidia GT 650M The question(s) is/are somewhat twofold. First of all, if I was to invest in a new machine I'd (ideally) like to build it myself, as opposed to buying a pre-made rig. A bit more effort and labor involved, surely, but likely an overall better final product due to the increased customization, as well as the somewhat reduced cost. How much would a system like this (one that could run FSX/XPlane/P3D and multiple other addons/sceneries with consistently smooth FPS) cost, and furthermore, what specifications would I be looking for? This is a largely foreign area to me, so I really don't have a clue as to what I'd be getting myself into. To elaborate a bit more on specifically what addons, I'd be looking for the whole shebang. PMDG airplanes, airports, textures, meshes, GEX, UT, etc, etc. Obviously this will require a powerful machine. The second part of the question pertains to if it's worthwhile to upgrade, or at least to the aforementioned extent. Obviously a slightly improved machine from the one I currently have would cost less and would be able to run FS2004 without any issue whatsoever. I also like that FS2004 tends to be more stable and experiences fewer crashes, however I don't care for the not-so-great ground scenery, lack of addons, and some other various blips/struggles I've had as far as model-matching online. With that said, if I did a minor upgrade, as opposed to an overhaul, I could save myself some money and run a stabler (yet limited) simulation. I guess what I'm getting at is: should I go big, invest in a high-performance machine and make the leap to FSX, XPlane, and/or P3D, or should I make a smaller and less expensive upgrade, yet stay with FS2004? Obviously I could invest in an incredibly powerful rig and continue to use FS2004, but that would be overkill, no doubt. I don't want to get a more powerful machine than I need. Again, this is a largely foreign subject to me, so as far as specifications, price, and the like, I'm going in blind. Thought I could turn to this fantastic community for some advice and assistance. Thank you all so much in advance.
  7. AVSIM is an enduring institution in the virtual aviation world providing a dependable and consistent platform to exchange knowledge and ideas. Over the years many of the leading flight simulation software and hardware gurus have graced these forums, gathering and honing their skills while dramatically increasing the quality of our hobby. Although a few names may stand out above others, the list of unique contributors is long and varied and we thank them one and all. Paul Johnson has put together the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide for both the DX9 and DX10 versions of FSX. It incorporates the latest and best techniques and the tried and true standbys into detailed instructions on what to do and how to do it. Paul will periodically update the guide as needed on a regular basis as new information, equipment and methods evolve. We hope that you will benefit from the accumulated wealth of knowledge presented here. 8. Hello everyone. I am going to order parts to build a pc in the coming weeks and would like some advice. I will provide a link to pc part picker below to show you the parts i have already picked out. My budget is 700-900 dollars and I want to build a pc that can run p3d v3-4 im not sure which one. The add ons I will use are gsx, aerosoft airbus, and ftx global, and a few sceneries. Would my specs be compatible and provide enough power or should I change them. Thank you for anyone who responds. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qt8VVY
  9. hi guys I am new to flight sim. I am interested in passenger aircraft simming, specifically boeing and airbus. I am trying to setup a home sim system and would appreciate your advice on the hardware, controls and the overall system for FSX. I don't want to spend too much money on that and would be willing to spend 20 000-25 000$ for the complete system including pc, audio, monitors. For hardware controls I war to focus now on yoke, throttle and pedals. My questions: 1. Which are the most realistic throttles for boeing and airbus? Should I really spend more money on motorised ones or go with non motorised ones? 2. Which are the most realistic yokes for the same aircrafts? Same questions 3. Which are the most realistic pedals for the same aircrafts? 4. Which frames are advisable if I want to have at least 3 monitors and one touch monitor (for simulating panels, switches and other controls)? 5. I really want to have all system mounted on a motion system. Which 3 and 6DOF motion systems are good and budget ones? Is it possible to install column yoke and throttle on them? I would really appreciate your overall advice on such a system to me, as a newbie. Any suggestions and thoughts are welcome.
