  1. Please, could anyone help me out here ... The blurries, especially over GEN and GES and UK from ORBX are killing me. I've tried every trick in the book, and read extensively across the Internet and tried every tweak and suggestion and still when I fly over any 'third layer' of scenery, either ORBX or other photoreal scenery then it's blurries all over the place! I've reinstalled P3D4.1 already ... it did not help I've disabled FS_Global_NG_FTX ... it didn't help I've 'migrated' a few times in FTX Central ... it didn't help I've added TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT= all the way from 40 to 150 as suggested on other forums ... it didn't help I've added FFTF from 0.01 all the way to 0.3 as someone claimed it cured his blurries ... it didn't help I've stayed away as far as possible from AffinityMask because that's a definite blurrie puke on my rig ... it didn't help I've deleted prepar3d.cfg and started all over again because all the BS in cfg files doesn't do anything but trouble ... therefore it didn't help I've even installed Lasso and although there is a definite improvement in smoothness, (less stuttering) ... it didn't help with the blurries I've tried HT on and off in the BIOS and it makes no difference on my rig although I do think HT OFF is the better option for smoothness ... but the blurries remain I've already posted on ORBX and LM P3D4 forums ... they didn't help BECAUSE - on my i7 7700 @ 4.2 and 32GB DDR4 with a 1080Ti on Win10x64 with 4K monitor, it should really really not be a problem! It seems to me, after many years of FSX experience, that you have the 'default' ground layer, then you add Global, then comes Europe_LC, and on top of it you add Terrain Scenery like GEN, GES, NOR, UK and to finish it off you have 3rd party scenery and then P3D4 on my rig just go, "okay, I give up!" It's not so evident when flying over areas that has no Terrain Scenery ... e.g: when flying over Italy or France with only Europe_LC there is hardly any blurries but the moment I hit Germany, it's all over the place until I switch it off in SCENERY I will really appreciate some help here! Please and thank you.
  2. I have recently converted to P3D V2.4 in a big way - the installation corrupted by P3D V1.4 - and I am committed moving forward. 'Tis the future, after all! I am trying to tune this beastie, and have followed Rob A's threads and others with interest, but wanted to post something I have observed that perhaps others with greater insight/knowledge/understanding can decipher. First, my rig: 3770K @ 4.2 Ghz, 8 GB Corsair Vengeance, EVGA GTX 780 AC (factory overclock), P3D installed on an SSD. I am typically "immune" to stutters and the occasional screen tear, but blurries drive me nuts. In trying to find a happy medium, however, I have found that: 1 - When the scenery gets blurry and I hit PAUSE, it catches up. Sometimes it take a couple of seconds, sometime it takes 10. Whatever the reason, something is still running and playing catch-up, but it does catch up and the scenery becomes crisp. 2 - When everything is sharp as a tack and I un-pause, I get stutters, continuously, until the blurries again appear. Damned if you do, damned if you don't!!! I know there are dependencies/trade-offs, but I cannot seem to figure out what they are! I have tried and tweaked the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT and FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION mods, have adjusted my sliders back to "truly average", all to no avail. I know that somewhere in there is a happy middle ground! I had P3D V1.4 pretty well sorted out, but do believe I (and for that matter, all of us) need to move forward to P3D V2 and beyond. So, I am committed. Perhaps to an asylum, but committed! Thanks for the help!
  3. All, I'm unable to find the analysis that states what hardware supports the graphic settings in Prepar3d. I'm looking to improve blurries (default setting) and choppy flying through clouds. CPU? Memory? Tim
  4. Hello everybody! I'm here because I've ran out of useful tips & tricks on autogen problems with my FSx+Acceleration version. Problem: Autogen elements popup and mesh increases definition only at a small distance from my aircraft, like in a virtual small circle. Please find explanatory screenshots attached. First of all here are my specs (PC is 6 months old): M/B: AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 CPU: Intel I7-3770K (non-OC) PSU: BeQuiet! Straight Power Modular 580W RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1833MHz Graphic card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX670 HDD: WD 1Tb 6Gb/s 7200rpm Monitor: DELL U2711 at 2560x1440 (32bit) Overclocking: usualy I prefer to no OC (3.9GHz), but I reached a stable system up to 4.3 GHz. I read a lot about this kind of problem and I think I've tried everything (including switching from a wonderful Sapphire Radeon 7870 to my actual GTX 670) and obviously all kind of tweak. No results! Let me share something abount the tweaks. For my configuration they are almost useless! I found out that Bojote's, Nick's, Word Not Allowed, and others tweaks, simply do not make my fsx run smoother that a clean fsx.cfg. And of course none of these tweaks have helped for the sayed Autogen and definition problem. HIGHMEMFIX=1 POOLSIZE=up to 100000000 rejectThresol=... TextureMaxLoad=12 SmallPartRejectRadius=4 and many others; even trying to find out which combination of tweaks could improve my performance! In addition I found out that nVidia Inspector (with common settings derived from forum reading) has a significant hit on the smoothness and provides very poor improvement from the trilinear (or anisotropic)+antialiasing fsx visualization (e.g. without nVidia Inspector, at unlimited Frame rate, I reached 60-70 FPS; with nVidia Inspector, I reached less than 35 FPS - both very variable that make me prefer Framerate locking). So, when I see all those youtube fsx videos ("As Real as it gets", guitargamery vids, Cessna154 vids, and so on), running at 40 FPS, smooth as silk with building and terrain crisp till eye's reach, and after reading a Pc configuration much older than mine, I just want to smash my beatiful PC down the stairs, it's getting real frustruating! On some posts I read that FSX performance is strictly related to each kind of PC configuration... so, do I have to face the reality? Have I built a useless system to reach those levels of performance? Or is there a way to exploit the power of my system which is well above those of whom have published FSX movies of unquestionable quality? Just finding out a way to resolve my autogen and mesh definition issue would really make me happy! PLEASE... HELP!
  5. I'm still a bit hold back by the big price on the larger SSD's, but I was just wondering, would a SSD help me in reducing or maybe even preventing blurries?I have the wonderful FlyLogic Switzerland Professional, but when flying low & fast (for example with the VRS F/A-18), it becomes a big blur.I recon this is because my Samsung 1TB harddrive is not capable of pushing out all the data that's required. Maybe with a SSD, this would be solved?I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
  6. Here is a thread I posted on REX forums: http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25852-hd-clouds-weather-injection-blurries/ Posted here just in case someone else has this problem and/or has a solution. I can't seem to resolve this problem other turn off REX weather injection. This only started happening with the most recent update to REX OD. Some things I've tried in my FSX.CFG that has made no difference: [Display] TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.99 DisablePreload=1 ProcSpeed=10175 PerfBucket=7 [Weather] CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=7 DETAILED_CLOUDS=1 CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8 [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680.0] MipBias=10 Mode=2560x1600x32 Anisotropic=1 AntiAlias=1 [GRAPHICS] MultiSampleQuality=4 MultiSamplesPerPixel=16 NIGHT_THRESHOLD=4096 DAY_THRESHOLD=32768 SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693500672 STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647 HIGHMEMFIX=1 ForceWindowedVSync=0 ForceFullScreenVSync=1 SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 D3D10=1 [sCENERY] ObjectsToBatchPerFrame=50 MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=4 SmallPartRejectRadius=0 IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5 [TERRAIN] SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=4 IMAGE_PIXELS_FOR_AUTOGEN_POLYGONS=2048 BATCH_AUTOGEN2=1 LOD_RADIUS=9.500000 MESH_COMPLEXITY=100 MESH_RESOLUTION=25 TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29 AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5 DETAIL_TEXTURE=1 WATER_EFFECTS=4 I've tried changing many of these settings, but the problem remains even at 1024 textures and 4.5 LOD (with REX set to 1024 also). I've also just used the FSX default weather and did not have a problem, only when REX injects weather do I get this problem ... I'm baffled?? I can use REX cloud textures and not have a problem, but as soon as any weather is injected, I get the problem. Tried Swap_wait_Timeout=2 to 10, no difference. Increased SmallPartRejectRadius=10, no difference. Also tried BufferPools but I don't think that value is used in DX10 mode with frames set to Unlimited, it didn't make any difference. Plenty of memory headroom both in the GPU (4GB) and in FSX.EXE (1GB free) ... SSD's tested fine (very fast as usual). I'm stumped. Rob.
  7. I got orbx global base but after I fly away form the airport thr ground starts to get blurry and buildings dont spawn. Please can you help me with this issue. Thanks
  8. I reinstalled the whole simulator an it got even worse. I tried flying on default scenery and nothing is loading, Not that they take long to load, no they even don't want to load. My sliders are on max and my settings on the AMD Control Center are all on default. I haven't touched my my fsx.CFG file yet. It's not the first time I have reinstalled fsx but this is the first time that this happens..
  9. Hello, I have been spending quite a while trying to figure this out, but I just cannot seem to figure out why I keep seeing horrible jagged edges and blurries, especially in a normally-zoomed virtual cockpit view on any plane. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to get smooth edges and crisp textures but despite tinkering with shaders, NVIDIA inspector and control panel, and in-game settings, I cannot seem to get it to work. Here are a few screenshots of in-game and my P3D settings and NVIDIA settings. I have many addons as well as tomatoshade and reshade. 10. Hi all, I've been experiencing quite a lot of shimmering in FSX. Over the last weeks I have been searching high and low for solutions and I've probably covered almost topic. Until now I have been able to reduce it somewhat but there was a moment I just accepted it as part of FSX-life ;-) Until yesterday, when I noticed something strange.... When I use TrackIR5 the shimmering is there, but when I pan around with the mouse (using the middle mouse button), the shimmering is practically gone! It's really odd but true! I've only been able to find one topic on this but there wasn't much info there. Anyone experiencing the same thing? Or better, know a solution? 11. Hello! I've got a pretty annoying problem in p3d v3.. With blurries it seems like im the only one who really has this kind of problems with them. Here is a picture with everything maxed out in p3d: https://gyazo.com/ebdc688e216fd626232f607b06d96a2f it don't really make a difference in the distant blurries if I put all the settings to the right, but I just don't understand why this only happens to me. Yes I know that there is distant blurries in P3D, but I don't think there is on this level. Thanks PC Specs: i5 6500 3.2 - 3.6 GHz GTX 960 4GB OC 8gb 2133 MHz ram Hope that pretty much describes it all. btw I've think I've tried most of the tweaks out there and even tried Nvidia Inspector and reinstalled many times. Thanks. Morten
  12. Apologies if this question has been asked a lot before, but I've searched everywhere and tried everything and I'm still getting blurry ground textures on FSX. I'm running an i5 4670k, 8GB RAM, GTX 760 and I have FSX installed on its own hard drive. I've tried quite a few fsx.cfg tweaks (set LOD RADIUS to 6.5, AffinityMask=14...), I'm using Nvidia Inspector and have tried changing settings there, but none of this seems to be having much of an effect. I have all sliders at max, frames locked at 30, and this doesn't seem to cause any problems as I get smooth performance, but the only problem is that ground textures look bad. I tried deleting my fsx.cfg to get rid of all previous tweaks and slowly started building them in again to see if that would help, but I'm still getting blurry textures! Does anyone have any advice, I'm running out of ideas?! Thanks fsx.CFG Image
  13. The last couple of days flying my Airbus around FL340-370, I noticed when I looked at an external view I had terrible blurries. Some times they would clear up after 10-20 seconds. I had never had this before, so this was a surprise, and I was trying to figure out what had caused this. At first I increased the FFTF from .01 up to 1.5, but this seemed to have no effect. I still don't understand if FFTF does anything with a multicorp processor like I have anyway. Then I remembered that last week I was playing around with the frame rate setting in P3D and when I switched from 30FPS where I had it locked since day 1, to unlimited, I noticed I gained a few FPS at the ramp where I was parked, so I left it at unlimited. Seemed Ok for a couple of days, and then the blurries started. Today I switched the FPS back to 30 limited and the blurries disappeared. I noticed that when it was set at unlimited the FPS was quickly dancing all over the place from 30 to maybe 55 fps at times at high altitudes. I guess that these faster FPS was not giving the scenery time to load properly.
  15. All, I'll take the plunge and open up the discussion around the dreaded topic of blurry textures. Given the move to put more power on the video card and leverage multi-cores, Prepar3D handling loading textures faster without blurry textures? Tim

  17. Ok so here's my problem. the Turkish 77 screenshots were taken with 16gb ram and my old motherboard. the British airways screenshots are taken after my motherboard and ram upgrade giving me 32gb ram. the same setting and the same cfg config were used on both flights. its really frustrating because i cannot get rid of the blurries. ive verified and reinstalled all orbx products at least twice now, ive done a full reinstall of windows, if done the terrain.cfg trick ive deleted my scenery.cfg and p3d.cfg to allow my p3d to create new ones and still nothing. im literally begging for help now lol. on my old motherboard i was getting between 20 and 25fps over London. with my new ram and motherboard dim getting around 30. so its not as if im getting any lag or stutter. my autogen doesnt have an issue keeping up with me, the tile below me in the a319 is crisp and how it should be but all surrounding tiles are blurry. i have the purge tile setting in the cfg set to default 16 in both flight also.
  18. No really, I broke it, but it does work great now! Caveat: What I did is probably wholly useless for the high-flying commercial pilots - this is strictly a GA environment with Orbx terrain and textures. First, some background. I purchased P3D V2.4 for my Christmas gift and have been fighting it for the last three weeks to improve terrain textures. I fly strictly GA, maybe a bizjet or two, and find that ground textures, clarity, and crisp autogen are paramount to my flying experience. After all, if I were in a real GA airplane I would not be fiddling with the FMS or other distractions. Nope, I would be scanning the sky, but equally importantly, scanning the ground. I want to look down and see (in an ideal world) the guy mowing his lawn, the different neighborhoods, people playing on the beach, etc. While this level of detail is impossible outside of an Orbx airport, I really find it distracting to have blurred textures when I am flying. If they resolve themselves at LOD radius = 1 right under the plane, so be it - as long as they resolve! Jitters are another bugaboo, but not as bothersome as blurries to my eyes. Flying in a WACO, C337, or the A2A C182T does not usually pose a problem: they are slow enough that the terrain resolves itself. In fact, flying the C182T was the thing that really opened my eyes to how much detail I was missing in other, faster aircraft! The terrain clarity is stunning while flying that bird, a combination of a great model and relatively low speed. However, as the speeds ramped up, the terrain begins to blur. This is particularly true for the Legacy, which is a little hot-rod in a class of its own for combining sight-seeing visibility and effortless speed at tree-top levels. After trying a TON of different things, I accidentally introduced a combination of features that essentially "broke" the P3D V2.4 CPU consumption model, such that NO SINGLE CPU IS SATURATED and therefore presenting a bottleneck. Through a combination of enabling hyper-threading (which I always found to be a detriment in FSX and P3D V1.4), assigning affinity to system resources but having a mismatch on CPU affinity in Prepar3D.CFG, and really cranking up FFTF and SWT, I have a system that allows me to fly the Legacy over Portland, OR (Orbx PNW) at 200 knots and 2,500 feet with no blurries, very few jitters, smooth turns, and while FPS dips into the low 20's, everything is smooth. I have never been much of frame hound, as long as it is smooooooth. Here is how I did it. I recently picked up Process Lasso, a terrific little program that allows you to easily slice and dice CPU affinity and priorities. While my first efforts were rewarding (move everything that was not part of the flight sim ecosystem to CPU 0), I was still frustrated, as virtual core 0 for P3D was hammered and clearly representing a bottleneck. Remembering OZwhitey and his experiments with the 6-core 5280, I turned on hyper-threading and, using Process Lasso, assigned affinity for P3D to threads 2-7, leaving threads 1-2 to system activities and Opus ESI. Oh, and I also clicked the box that said "This is a game" based upon the described benefits. Yeah, I know - it hurts... ^_^ This worked great, and there was a massive improvement in smoothness and visual clarity. Wait a minute - I had failed to change the affinity mask in my Prepar3d.CFG file and it was left at Affinity=14, i.e., cores 1-3 in a non-hyper-threaded 4 core processor. I checked Task Manager, which I always leave running during testing to monitor CPU and VAS consumption, and to my utter surprise NONE of the six active threads hosting P3D was hammered! Whoa! They weren't even, with maybe the highest at 60-percent and the lowest at 30-percent, but again, none of them was completely saturated. Conducting a short test by commenting out my affinity mask setting in my CFG file showed that P3D behavior reverted back to normal, i.e., virtual CPU 0 was hammered again. Crossing my fingers, I reinstated the affinity mask and we were back to all six threads active, but none of them hammered. Magic or voodoo, not sure which, but it works! I think part of it is the Process Lasso "game" setting, but have yet to test what happens when I turn it off. This opened the skies (pardon the pun)! I now had sufficient CPU cycles to improve terrain texture behavior, and through a bit of reading and trial and error bucket tests (use a small bucket - see what happens - use a big bucket - see what happens, retry until the optimal bucket size is reached, i.e., a binary sort) I arrived at FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.50 and SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=50. Now, I know there has been some chatter on AVSIM about setting FFTF=0.01 and people reporting good frame rates, but that, at least to me, was voodoo. I have riding fast motorcycles long enough to know that "more" is better than "less" (smoothness not withstanding), and you don't get to go fast unless you add more. After all, the purpose of FFTF is to provide enough CPU cycles to process the terrain textures. The other variable is SWT. My understanding is that this is the amount of time the sim will wait, after which it assumes that terrain processing has been completed. Together, they seem to represent the primary "knobs" for tuning terrain processing. After putting this combination in place (and yes, there was a LOT of serendipity involved in the whole process), I have a sim that allows me to fly the Legacy over heavily populated Vancouver, WA or Portland, OR at 2,500 feet at 200 knots and have fully resolved terrain under me. Sometime it resolves late, sometimes early, but it is never falls behind and turns into a blurry mess. Even flying into Orbx KTVL, which was just brutal on my P3D V1.4 installation, is smooth and unblurred. Just for grins, I decreased altitude to 1,500 feet above Portland @ 200 knots, and while the terrain was fully resolved I was getting a wee bit too many jitters, suggesting that some other P3D process was being starved for resources. There is still some tuning to go, that's for sure, but I feel much better having a "broken" foundation under my wings that responds, in a deterministic manner, to input! Oh, and trying different affinity masks in the CFG file? Ain't gonna happen... Fourteen is just fine. Finally, just to show you how weird things can get, I had micro-stutters after my "fix" that were just distracting. Turns out the combination of my GTX 780 and 2560 x 1440 ASUS monitor is incapable of holding down 60 hertz, but was only producing 59. Using NI I changed to match and viola, no more micro stutters. Isn't tweaking fun?!?!?! Here are my CFG settings if anybody wants to comment/copy. I put all the "tweaks" up top so they are easily accessible, and this is not the entire CFG file. Note that there are still some compromises - my LOD radius is down from 6.5 to 5.5, and scenery complexity is "normal". However, Orbx building and tree density seems to be uncoupled from general scenery complexity, so I can keep those high. 19. Hey all, I'm having a problem with FTX Orbx Scotland where the scenery gets really blurry, to the point where even if I pause the sim it still stays blurry. Everywhere else is fine, FTX England, Wales, Ireland etc, just Scotland. Any idea how I can fix this? Many thanks, Daniel
  20. Hello guys, I have a huge problem. I have both prepar3d v3 and FSX. I enjoyed both of them for a long time. Then i updated windows 10 to the latest version. It seems to mess up my prepar3d. I tried everything and reset my windows. I thought it would fix my problem but no luck. And the worst thing is i can't go back to the old windows version because i reset it. My problem is blurry terrain at the distaance and autogen popping. Tried; Different autogen settings, different LOD distance settings, HT on off, frame rate limiter and affinity mask settings. Both FSX and P3D have the same symptoms. I realized that my CPU usage was absurd. Usually core 0 at 100 percent and the rest are chilling at 10-20. I tried disabling core 0 with affinity mask but another core became 100 percent used. The rest are still at very low percents. So this might be the cause of my problem but i don't know how to fix it. Windows version: Latest updated Nvidia driver: 388.43 PC SPECS: i7 4790k GTX 980 500 GB SSD 1 TB HDD 16 GB DDR3 RAM Thanks, Arda
  21. Win 8.1, 4770k, Titan, 4k monitor. Microstutter: Fixed it by using Nvidia driver 337.88 instead of the latest one. (just me having trouble with that driver?) Autogen popping up late: Fxed by turning on hyperthreading (are you guys using that?) 1-2 sec freezes: I can live with that… (until Skylake I guess). Blurry textures: This is why I have my finger on the "delete P3D button"! I find this so irritating that I can not use Prepar3d. Better use that expensive SSD space for something else. I had the same problem in 2.3 (never used 2.4) Textures loading really slow. Changed the affinitymask in task manager everytime i started Prepar3d and it was fine. Now it´s the same but there is nothing to change about the affinity mask. Maybe I will try 2.3 again!? So… Anyone out there with some magic that I have not yet tried? I have tested all settings in Nvidia inspector/control panel, all tweaks in prepar3d.cfg imaginable… basically all that can be "googled" about blurry textures I have tried. I really don't want to but …. I think I have to give up... or have a break... will be back... the eyecandy in prepar3d is very addictive! Haze
