Hey guys, I put this question in another post but not sure how often folks dig back into them, so I'm starting a new one since I searched the forum and didn't see any direct matches to my question. :wink: What about a jump from a 660 to a 970/980? I'm running with a 4790k and 8gb of 1600 memory. Running both P3d 2.5 and FSX:SE. Want to pull the trigger, but drowning in all the number games.....one would logically "assume" that a 6xx was weaker than a 7xx, which would be weaker than a 9xx. But reading up on the technology...apparently the middle number is VERY significant, as it "seems" that a 780 could be more powerful than a 960/70? My thinks the unsuspecting "typical" consumer would be quickly duped into normal, linear thinking, and that may be the defacto marketing strategy, but its pretty annoying for users who just want to know that a 9 series is better than ANY 7 or 6 series, but sadly we don't seem to live in that world. (I guess you can apply that logic to the automobile world as well, where a 2015 Camry is not at valuable as a 2014 Lexus LS460i, hehe) Opinions on if I need to jump to the Maxwell chip (I guess that means a 9 series?) if I'm going to push ahead with P3d? Budget is a significant issue here guys, so while I'd love to have quad Titan X's in my rig, even the 980 is out of reach at the moment unless anyone can convince me I'd be better of with one NOW (not into 4k yet), vs years down the road when we're all on 4k, and a 4gb video card is the minimum, and a used Titan X is going for $200. :ph34r: I'm all for futureproofing, but within reason...especially when you see how peripherals double in performance and half in price every few years. :Applause: We happily paid $300 for a GT9800 several years ago...with a whopping 512mb of ram! LoL Read all about the 970 3.5gb ram issue, and not sure if I stay away from this card, or if its a good performer even though its neutered 500mb of its ram? Guess I'm saying I need compelling reasons to jump to a 980 or Titan, or else a 780/970 (or 960 unless I hear a "Don't go there", hehe) is where I'm leaning. Help me spend my money wisely guys! Hi guys,I am new here, and would like to begin by saying how useful I have found these forums to be. I have only recently become interested in flight simulation, and am currently using FS9 on an old PC with severely inadequate spec. Over the next while I am looking to put together a PC that will give me far better performance, but on a relatively tight budget. I was under the impression that a half-decent FSX rig was going to be way out of my league, however after reading through a number of very informative posts on this forum, I have decided perhaps I could obtain reasonable FPS without completely breaking the bank. I am in the UK and my budget is around £600 (approx. $900 USD).I am not currently familiar with over-clocking, and have never attempted building my own PC, but I am fairly technically-minded and am sure with a little research I will manage just fine (hopefully!). I am assuming that over-clocking will be necessary to achieve better results? I have a few add-ons and will likely purchase more, eg. iFly or PMDG 737 and some scenery etc. Am I likely to achieve reasonable FPS from this rig at this kind of resolution? If FSX is going to struggle, I may end up sticking with FS9 but it would be great to be able to upgrade. I'm looking for a new 1440p display for flightsim use - DCS2.5 and X-Plane11. Budget is up to £400, only considering 16:9 displays, assuming at this price range IPS are less suitable (???), and not convinced curved displays are worthwhile for 16:9. I have decided that i would like to build a computer for X-Plane 10 as it simply does not run on my PC. My budget is around £600-£700 and have created a list of parts for a system on PCPartPicker and would like some feedback on how it will perform running X-Plane on pretty high settings. I am wondering if an SSD accelerated setup would help boot times etc, if it would be worth it, but have no clue how to do it, what SSD to use ETC. I may in the future overclock but only if I desire higher performance which is why there are overclockable components. I only use a single monitor. As I managed to get some money for my birthday i fell in need of a turboprop regional carrier that was operated by at least 3 european/american companies. I have a budget of 60 european pesos(aka €)but I still am in doubt. I want a detailed aircraft that has an FMS and that is fun to fly around. Was thinking about carenado's F50 but i'm not sure. Hello! My name is Oliver Mitchell and I am very excited to announce the developement of fsFinance. What is fsFinance? fsFinance (short for Flight Simulator Finance) is an online management system for your virtual fleet. It isn't a virtual airline as such, more of a system to track your flights. At the moment, we currently have 2 modes available - Career and Sandbox. Career: Career mode is where you begin with a set budget, and purchase aicraft. As a result of this 'set budget', you will only have enough to buy certain types of aicraft (Cessna's, not a 747). Use these aicraft to operate virtual flights and generate an income to buy more aicraft. Once you have yourself a little money, purchase the more expensive aircraft such as a Boeing 737 - This will increase passenger capacity, range etc. You can fly different airlines at once, remember fsFinance is all about what YOU want to do. Sanbox: Sandbox mode is known as 'Diving in at the deep end'. No budget. No restrictions. Simply operate whatever flights you wish, its up to you. fsEconomy will track your flights. At the moment, the website is coming along smoothly. This will form the backbone of the system before I can write the program to record your flights. In time, this project will become a first of its type, using a variety of tricks to enable the most groundbreaking features possible. I'm putting together some old LGA775 Core2Duo PCs to use as slave PCs in a sim network setup. Depending on the graphics card that I use, from a more efficient GTX750 to an older power hungry GTX480 (yes I know it also depends on the amperage on the 12V rail), eXtreme Power Supply Calculator gives me the following wattage ranges for PSUs: E8500 ~3.8GHz (OC) 348W - 590W E8400 3GHz 318W - 560W So I'm looking for PSUs rated 400W - 650W. Any suggestions for budget PSUs under £50?
