Hello, does an AMD FX-6300 be enough for the T7? What GPU schould I use? Thanks in advance Felix Keller

I built a new pc last week and was looking to play Flight Simulator X on high settings. Specs: MoBo: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming CPU: Intel Core i7 7700k GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 3G RAM: HyperX Fury 16 GB DIMM DDR4-2666 2 x 8 GB SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB CPU is liquid cooled by a Corsair H55 and the case has 6 extra fans excluding the GPU and power supply fans. I cranked all settings in FSX to maximum and created myself a 'worst case scenario' (creating all the situations that would require the most of my system) and got 14-22 fps. I decided to increase the clock rate from 4.2 GHz to 5.0 GHz and tweaked the fsx config file and created the same scenario in-game, but got exactly the same amount of fps. I've made the following enhancements to the config file: [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=84 [bufferpools] Poolsize=39000000 [GRAPHICS] HIGHMEMFIX=1 [Display] WideViewAspect=True TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.15 HideInfoText=1 [sCENERY] SmallPartRejectRadius=3.0 Of course there are settings to decrease but overclocking the pc should help increase the fps, so I'm trying to test this using the same scenario at all times. When it helps, I'll tweak my FSX settings to get exactly the performance I want. I was hoping someone on this forum could help me out. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I've been doing quite a lot of research regarding best PC specs. for running P3D v3. I'm particularly unsure about the best CPU to be using. I have already found out the 4790k performs better under single core loads compared to the 6700k, is this true? Considering that P3D and FSX generally use a single core, I assumed that the 4790k would be the CPU to go for... However after doing some more research about the 6700k, it appears it is more efficient, uses less power... Unless I've missed any forum posts similar to this (apologies if I have), I can't seem to find any solid evidence about which of the two is best, specifically for P3D. Or is there another CPU that is best? Budget isn't an issue... Thanks for help Jonathan

Hello everyone. I plan to build a new gaming pc for P3D, however i am extremely stuck in trying to find the right specs. I do not wish to spend anything over 450 pounds ($673) for my CPU and GPU, yet i am unsure which i should spend more on. I am looking for 30 fps at most airports with addon scenery. Hey everyone. Wanted some opinions here, as I’m admittedly not anywhere near an expert on computers. I fly Prepard3d v4. I use a significant amount of Orbx products. ActiveSky. Add on-airports, etc. I also fly a lot of events on vatsim. I’m running an older Asus computer. Figured I could make significant upgrades for under what a new computer would cost. Bought an i9-990k cpu. RTX 2080 super graphics card. 32GB RAM. While trying to install I was told I’d need a new motherboard and cooling system. However, the size of the computer would prevent us from installing the proper cooling system for the i9. The max cpu I can have is the I-7 6700K. If I pair that with the 32GB in RAM and the RTX 2080 Super and installation of everything needed to get my comp up to speed I’ll be out the door at $1,600. The question is, is that worth my while knowing I’m installing what is now an old CPU? And will that CPU run a supped up Prepar3d the way you’d hope with the graphics card? Or, at this point, am I better off just buying a new computer that will be at the front end of the tech for a bit? In terms of budget I can afford to spend a decent bit more here, but balance that with the fact I like having more money in my pocket vs. less. Thanks for the thoughts. brad Bud

Hi everyone. In next days i will build up a new pc for P3D v4. I've a budget of 900euros. I chose a I5 8500 from intel, a gtx 1060 6gb 16gb ram ddr4 an ssd of 250gb and hdd 1tb. I run P3D always with the graphic settings set to mid-high and i use payware scenery and aircraft. I know that for P3D the CPU is very important, Can you tell me if the i5 8500 of 3GHZ is a good choise for fly around 30fps? If no can you advise me any other good cpu for run p3d v4? My current system is: AMD Phenom xII 945 Quad Core 3.0 Ghz Foxconn H-RS780-uATX Mobo ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 8GB DDR3 I've had an OK with experience with FSX so far. I REALLY like using my CaptainSIM B767 but it just absolutely murders my system and I average about 17 FPS in the virtual cockpit. What should my next step be? I've looked at upgrading the CPU to something that is 4.0Ghz+ but not sure how much that would help my situation. Maybe it's time to upgrade to an NVidia card that is $150+.. would like some honest opinions about where I should be in terms of my experience and what I should be targeting as far as a hardware upgrade. Please hold off on the Intel/AMD a really excited user comments, they get old. Should I be seeing better FPS with graphics on Ultra-High with my current system? Is it worth it for me to invest the $16 for the FSXBooster? So many questions... any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello gents. After a meltdown efficiently destroying my i7 950 (unclocked, go figure), the company I bought it from is sending me a new CPU. They would only provide the 3820, even though I requested the 2700k or 3770k. Even though 3820 isn't a K-cpu, it's partially unlocked, so in terms of OC, I'll manage to raise the clock a bit. However, I'm curious as to if anyone here has tried the 3820 with FSX, either stock clock or OC? I wanna know what to expect from this CPU. Thanks!

I set VCore manually in BIOS but get the following measurements (motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR): BIOS = 1.356V CPU-Z = 1.328V HWMonitor = 1.33V (1.28V min, 1.33V max) Why is there a difference? Which value should I trust? The recommended VCore max for my Q9650 is 1.3625V which is the next notch on the list of VCore's in BIOS and I don't want to go over this value (yes I know that some people happily run their Q2Q at 1.4somethingV but I don't!). Of course if the real VCore is 1.33V when my BIOS says 1.35V then perhaps I can go a few notches above 1.3625V in the list. Thanks in advance for your replies.

What do you think, what kind of FPS I will gain from upgrading from FX-8350 to i5-7600K? I have a GTX 770 video card. With PMDG 737, Orbx etc.

Does P3D v4 support octa core or hex core process as well as quad core cpu? I am currently using the i7 7700k, which is a 4 core 8 thread. However, if p3d supports Octa Core process , I'll purchase an 8 core 16 thread, the Rizen 1700x. I would like to hear advice from those who have used Hex Core or Octa Core in p3d. Thanks.

Hello, im looking into upgrading my hardware, and while id like to think I know a lot about computers the choice of processors never fails to baffle me. Right now I have 2 processors in mind. - AMD FX-4350 4.20 GHz Quad-Core AM3+ CPU 4MB L3 Cache & Turbo Core Technology - Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Quad Core 3.60 GHz 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011 The AMD looks better with the with the 4.2 GHz, but I know that a higher clock speed doesn't always mean better performance. The AMD is cheaper, but I don't want to sacrifice performance for it if the intel would be better. So which processor would be best for running Fsx? Other specs: 16 GB of Ram Nvidia 660 GTX 2GB video card Thank you.

Hello, I am currently planning to enhance my FSX experience in a custom-built PC (homemade off course) and what I am thinking is a multi monitor set up with 3 1080p computer displays, with a joke, pedals, throttle quadrant, comm stack, and maybe one additional LCD display for instrumentation purposes. This is off course a rough draft because I am wondering what hardware selection would be best for this type of mini-cockpit set up. My budget is quite flexible but moderate. In that sense, this is the type of components that I am thinking in terms of hardware & software... 8GB RAM DDR3 1833MHz 3 1080p Displays + 1 display for instrument purposes. Saitek Pro Flight Joke + Throttle Quadrant Saitek Pro Flight Pedals with Toe Braking Saitek Pro Flight Comm Stack TrackIR 2 HDDs; 1TB for Windows OS (not sure whether to go 7 or 8) and 320GB for FSX. Microsoft Flight Simulator X Gold Edition SP2. 750W Power Supply These are the unknowns where I would gladly accept suggestions for hardware given my set up... Currently thinking of using a Haswell Motherboard (thinking of this candidate from GIGABYTE) and using the Core i7 4770k or Core i5 4670k. One last thought, given that we are talking about FSX, should I just go for the Core i5 4570? As for the GPU, I am actually unsure of which one to pick. I know that most of the agreement here at AVSIM is that the Nvidia GPU is the best one for FSX. Which Nvidia GeForce GPU do you guys recommend for a multi monitor set up for FSX? I am willing to accept an AMD wildcard suggestion because I have seen some YouTube videos showing FSX multi monitor set ups using AMD GPUs with their Eyefinity technology. Hi Simmers, I currently have a Phenom II X6 1045T that cannot be overclocked because of my weak mobo. I want to upgrade this PC so it is dedicated to flight sim. Yes I know its best that i get a i5 or i7 K processor, but i simply cannot afford that due to shipping cost from America to here I live. So which should I get? Budget at absolute peak for CPU and Mobo is $210US AMD FX6300 + Mobo = $201US Intel i3 3220 + Mobo = $185 US Any opinions ????? I only want fsx to run PMDG's, REX, and GEX smoothly enough. I will NOT be using any payware airports or scenery and will be using WOAI traffic. I also dont plan maxing out the sliders. The only one that will be maxed are LOD. The rest will be middle to middle-high Thanks

Hey guys, more or less a newbie here, just thought I'd ask some opinions: I'm trying to put together a workable FSX rig, and its now time to upgrade my cpu/mobo from a 4 year old dinosaur to something I can squeeze some better performance out of. It looks like everyone is all about the i7's but I'm really on a tight budget and the Phenom ii x4 965BE looks like a steal for 90 bucks and 3.4ghz out the box. Now, I am definitely someone who believes on 'you get what you paid for', so is there anyone who uses it and can give me some specifics on the ups and downs on getting something like this? I am currently using an Athlon 64x2 running at about 2.7ghz. On a PMDG NGX and running REXE, I get anywhere from 8-12fps on a good day as long as I'm not using complex scenery. Right now, I'm getting the most fps nosedives when REXE injects weather and when flying online with FSInn. Now just for clarification, I want better FPS but I am by no means trying to go crazy-pro here. I am pretty much satisfied with a solid 16-18fps, as long as it's consistent and doesn't really dive below 12 when (for example) rexe decides to inject weather on short final. So anyway any opinions on that CPU or other advice would be appreciated. If I missed another thread where this was already covered, just let me know. Thanks

I see the water cooler I am looking at for my new build has pre-applied thermal paste. (Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX CPU Cooler) Is this ok for good overclocking, or should it be removed and another paste applied? Thanks, Don

Greetings! I am building a new PC. I have been away from Flight Sim for 3-4 years (pre Steam and pre p3d). My new build will be for FSX Steam, but I also do Photoshop and Video editing. I anticipate using FSX Steam, PDG 737, Orbix, Rex, most all of the goodies. I am guessing my system will be overkill for Flight Sim, but would like confirmation of that. I will be overclocking the CPU. This is my third build of a system. As I only build system every 4 years or so, I am going high end. I respect the contributors on AvSim and hope for some feedback. Needing CPU/GPU Advice for P3D Been searching the better part of the night to no avail. So. I am seeing from the forums here that P3D is more GPU then CPU. Got it. Q. Which CPU, i7 or i5? Q. Then which one? 4690k etc. Q. If I go i5 which GPU? Q. If I go i7 which GPU? I am mindful of the DX12 solution (maybe) coming. In those days we'll have to see about upgrades. As you can see my rig, it's upgrade time for sure, even if something is coming down the pike. Thank you guys so much!!

Hey guys, I've been thinking about upgrading my PC. I mainly use it for Flightsimming (and office stuff, but that's irrelevant in this case). But probably my system differs a lot from the system a lot of simmers have, because I'm a proud AMD user, never was disappointed by AMD, my CPUs kept running and running. Great pieces of hardware. Speaking of hardware, here are my specs: AMD Athlon II X4 @ 3.4GHz 4GB DDR3 RAM AMD Radeon HD5670 Asus mainboard with AM3+ socket (not the cheapest and not the most expensive but does its job) and an SSD with Win7 64bit installed Now as the title tells you already, I'm considering upgrading my CPU to a FX8350 (and doubling the RAM to 8GB). Is this a reasonable step? Consider this: I'm flying FS9 only... until now at least. However I have some stuff installed... various addon sceneries (Aerosoft, FlyTampa and a bunch of freeware stuff), as for the aircraft I mostly use the IFly B737NG series, Level-D B763 and PMDG B744. Weather engine is ActiveSky Evolution, Performance calculation by TOPCAT and I'm flying online on Vatsim (so Firefox is always open for airport charts etc.) Standing at the gate at Frankfurt (MAF by Aerosoft installed) sitting in the standard Cessna under medium rain and heavy clouds in the sky I usually get about 24fps in average. With the IFly that value drops to around 20 in average with ASE running. However my sim just does not feel "smooth" when I'm taxiing on airports like that or when I'm on approach into those airports. I've done some tweaking... recently I've tweaked too much and now my sim crashes all the time, which is why I'll freshly install him again tomorrow. Now what do I want to achieve by buying a FX8350? I want my FS9 to run smooth as silk. No (or almost no) stutters at all, no significant framedrops, neither standing at the airports nor flying through clouds. Is it possible to nail 35fps with an FX8350 when I use as much software as stated above? For the future I plan to migrate to P3d. This could be in half a year or maybe a year... I'm not sure yet. Sometimes I think about buying P3d and the C172 trainer by A2A simulations right now and have some fun with it, but I really like my FS9 and buying all the addons again would hurt my wallet a lot. Assuming I choose the FX8350 and maybe get a newer gfx card with P3d and have 8GB RAM by then, what will the performance of P3d be like? Will I have fun with P3d? Is this system still too weak to run P3d (+ A2A/PMDG/IFly aircraft addon + ASN + FlyTampa scenery)? Rumours that I've heard say that P3d simply "works" better than FSX, meaning it is more stable and its performance is more solid compared to FSX, how big is the difference in FPS between FSX and P3d with the same addons running? Also I've heard that P3d uses multicore technology while FS9 does not. Is it possible that P3d even runs better than FS9 on an hexacore like the FX 8350? I'm absolutely aware that actually Intel processors are the way to go for flightsimming. However this is not an option for me as upgrading my system to make it compatible with an Intel CPU, that easily can be double the price of an FX8350, is far too expensive for me. There simply has to be another way, hasn't it? So I hope you can "answer" my questions. Maybe there's someone running his FS with a FX8350? Maybe there's someone that tested a lot of CPUs with FS9/X or P3d and, by accident, you've also tested a FX8350 or similar CPU? Share your insights! Hello guys, so the time has come and I need a new computer. I kind of know what's good and what's not, but not if the parts will work well together. I don't know if I will overclock, it really depends how fsx is running and what you guys can recommend. Also I have no idea of motherboards, what ram or cooler to take. What I know, is that my budget is at around ~1000€. And the parts I would like to have in it are : I7-4770k Nvidia GTX 770 1 TB harddrive for other stuff and a 250gb ssd for fsx Even those parts can be changed if you advise me to, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to pc parts right now. Hi all, I'm brand new to avsim, and this is my first post. I've been enjoying MS Flight Simulator since version '98 while using the MS Force Feedback joystick. What fun it was then, and what fun it still is now (of course now I'm using FSX with a yoke!). I'm planning on building a new desktop system within the next month or so, and I'm trying to research what kind of hardware would be best in terms of CPU and GPU. One would think that anything that you could buy new today would be more than adequate for a game that was developed three or so years ago, but I know that's not the case with FSX! I've also heard that with FSX, having a really strong processor is more important than a top of the line graphics card. And as far as processors go, I'm trying to decide between an i5 or i7. My budget for the CPU is anywhere up to about $220. If I can stay under that then that would be great, but from what I've learned, it seems like for smooth FSX gameplay (with addons like ORBX, REX, etc), getting a great CPU is where the focus of a new system should be. Any tips or advice about CPU & GPU selection would be much appreciated. (My budget for GPU is about $200.) Also, any information about how or why a certain type of processor might work better for FSX than another type would also be appreciated. (For example, I've heard something about how FSX doesn't utilize multi-core processors very well, so dumping money into a fast quad-core is just not necessary and won't improve FSX one bit.) Hello dear avsimmers I built my pc 5 years ago. The specs are Core i3 2120 1155p , 2x4GB DDR3 1333mhz Ram , Radeon HD6670 2gigs 128bit graphics , Gigabyte H61 MA-D3V mobo. I'm bored of compromising performance for graphics and vice versa and want to make some significant changes to run the P3D or FSX-SE smoothly with decent graphics. Here, I'm able to find used i7 2600k or 3770k in good condition as the mobo is 1155p and thinking about putting a GTX 1060 inside. But I'm pretty much concerned about the mobo as it's old and not sure if it could run these hardware consistently. and i know that it's like impossible to make a stable cpu overlock on a H61 chipset motherboard. So , should i go for it without worries or keep saving money to build an entire new setup which will take a long time tbh. And i need precise answers about the performance of AMD products for flight simulators especially P3D. Thanks in advance

I am building a new PC within the next couple of months, and am having difficulty nailing down the right CPU to purchase. Does anyone on here run a GTX 970 with an i5 4690k? I'm thinking either that, or upgrade the 4690k for the 4790k, and sacrificing in other areas of the PC. My budget is approximately $1500, and I am pretty dead set on the 970. I will be running other games and stuff too. This is my current outlook on pc part picker. Tell me what y'all think. Is the performance gain with the i7 enough in FSX/P3D to spend the extra cash? Right now, I run on a 4 year old Alienware m14x laptop, with an 15 2410m, a gtx 555m, and 6gb of 600MHz RAM. I have all of PMDG's Aircraft, Aerosoft A320 extended, CS 757, LVLD 767, and the Wilco E90, as well as FTX Global, FTX NA Blue, Australia, and New Zealand. I also have FSDT's CYVR, KLAX, and KJFK, along with some other scenery add ons. I run AS Next, and REX as well. On my Alienware, I get 15-20 FPS at cruise with every plane, but on the ground I often get 2-5 FPS, and even in climb/descent, I often run 10-12 FPS. So, I'm struggling. 12-15 FPS is smooth for me, but I really would like to run 15+ FPS pretty well everywhere with this new build, and my add ons. I am planning on upgrading to P3D as well, so that should help with the add ons. I understand the limitations on 32 bit applications and all, but my setup does look pretty damn good when the game is on pause
