  1. Hello friends, I mostly use MSFS to fly into small unpaved grass or dirt airfields. These are shown in LNM as "Soft or water runways". Currently the icons showing the location of these fields (a white circle with a maroon border) only become visible at zoom level of 1.8nm and below. When I zoom out to beyond 1.8nm zoom level the icon vanishes. I've looked at the menu but couldn't find it - is it possible to make the icons stay visible to any zoom level you can specify? Thanks for any info! 🙂
  2. Hello everyone, This is my first post on this forum. Have been flying fsx on laptops for 5+ years. Just finished my airline pilot training and now about to order a custom build. I have lot's of questions... Please find the build specs in the PDF attached. This was proposed by the company who will build it. PC Flight Sim 2014.pdf Right now the build is an I5 4670k, 8GB corsair 1600mhz, (GTX 660 2GB), Asus B85M-e 1. Win7 vs Win8 : I am used to Win7. If Win8 is better for performance, I would consider it. The shop says that the price is the same.. 2. P3DV2 vs FSX: Never tried P3D... I just want stability and frame rates. With Opusfsx, PMDG, Carenado and some scenery. 3. SSD??: Do I need this? I have one in my laptop. But if the performance is not really affected in flight sims, I will take a WD HDD The last question is related to the P3D vs FSX: 4. GTX660 or better?: Since P3Dv2 uses more GPU, is it worth dropping the SSD and adding better gpu? Or is this fine? I want my pc to be balanced for flight sim. Any help would be appreciated Kind regards
  3. Hello All, I have been trying to add a custom airline and callsign to the list of AIrlines in RC (so I can use it when flyign with my Virtual Airline). What I have done is made a .wav file of my airline's callsign and added it to every controller/pilot's voice folders (in the rcv4x/winwood folder). I then followed the instructions in this post, which seems to be the correct way to do it? I edited the c4.csv file in the data folder and added my VA's info. as needed. However, I am having the following issue, after saving and closing everything and then restarting Radar Contact, I can now see my VA in the list with appropriate call sign, but when I click the little speaker icon next to the name to hear it say the name (play the .wav file), nothing happens, no audio plays?? I'm hoping someone can help me before I start pulling my hair out! Thanks  Mike D.
  4. Hi guys,I am new here, and would like to begin by saying how useful I have found these forums to be. I have only recently become interested in flight simulation, and am currently using FS9 on an old PC with severely inadequate spec. Over the next while I am looking to put together a PC that will give me far better performance, but on a relatively tight budget. I was under the impression that a half-decent FSX rig was going to be way out of my league, however after reading through a number of very informative posts on this forum, I have decided perhaps I could obtain reasonable FPS without completely breaking the bank. I am in the UK and my budget is around £600 (approx. $900 USD).I am not currently familiar with over-clocking, and have never attempted building my own PC, but I am fairly technically-minded and am sure with a little research I will manage just fine (hopefully!). I am assuming that over-clocking will be necessary to achieve better results? Here is a list of potential components based on my research thus far:CPU: Intel Core i5 2500kMB: ASRock H61M/U3S3RAM: Mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333MHzGPU: GTX 460 1GBHDD: Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB SATA 6.0GbpsDVD: ASUS SATA 24x DVD BurnerPSU: Corsair 500w 80PLUSCase: Cooler Master HAF 912 with 2 x 120mm case fansCooler: Stock cooler included with CPUIntegrated sound and ethernet with motherboardAll of this comes to around £575 (based on Amazon UK prices). Is there another place you would recommend to purchase components?I will be using only one monitor (for now) at around 1680x1050 I guess. I have a few add-ons and will likely purchase more, eg. iFly or PMDG 737 and some scenery etc. Am I likely to achieve reasonable FPS from this rig at this kind of resolution? If FSX is going to struggle, I may end up sticking with FS9 but it would be great to be able to upgrade. I will also most likely be running Windows 7 x64, as I can see from this forum that it is likely to be my best bet in order to keep everything current/up to date.Is the PSU I have listed adequate for this rig, also?Apologies for so many questions, but this seems like something of a minefield to me and there is so much information out there I am starting to get a little lost!If there is anything I have failed to mention then please let me know. Many thanks in advance, your advice/expertise is much appreciated.Tom.
  5. Hi friends 😀 One of the best design features of X-Plane 11 is its excellent default view & eyepoint-movement controls. In a matter of minutes you can set up custom views and bind them to hotkeys from virtually anywhere inside or outside the airplane. Its also very simple to adjust the current view - just use the arrow keys. Example. Setting up a left wingview in a Boeing 737-800 in X-Plane 11 1. Use arrow keys to move backward through the flightdeck door to the passenger cabin. Keeping SHIFT pressed speeds up movement 2. Arrive at the window and use small taps of arrow keys to transition in the XYZ axis & mouse to adjust view direction. 3. Press CTRL + NUMPAD 4 Its done. Now to get to your left wingview from the Captains seat just tap NUMPAD 4 and you're smoothly and rapidly taken there. Press the same key to go back to the flightdeck. Numpad keys can be used to set up other views too. Perhaps you want NUMPAD 5 to look up at the overhead? Anyway, you get the idea. Does FS2020 have a similar system? The eyepoint view controls in FSX were so clunky.

  7. Hi everyone, I'm new on this forum. I have been searching for a simple program to manually set weather into fsx. I'm working on a small home cockpit used as a trainer for pilots students. I've created, starting from an Arduino microcontroller, an instrument panel with all the switches of a Mooney Bravo ect... connected all via FSUIPC to FSX. The instructor station PC should have a program to set failures and weather while the student is flying. I've tryed setting weather via FSUIPC but no success... Does anyone know a simple method/software to inject custom weather into fsx without the use of the fsx menu? Elia p.s. freeware if possible ( sorry for my bad english... )
  8. This is my and my friend's Zoran contribution to flight sim community ! many times I read about various hardware that you can buy for for your flight sim that costs thousands of dollars LITTERALLY. ALL this CAN BE BUILT FOR LESS THAN 50 US DOLLARS INCLUDING MECHANICS AND ELECTRONICS and final product is very close or in some segment better that that overpriced controls that you can buy. Every man with average mechanican works ekill and with very basic electrical experience can build this. many part are those that you can find in your backyard like old horisontal case for pc , water hitter pipes, bike rubber grips, pipes from old washing mashine etc. This is preliminary homemade affordable high guality yoke, throttle quadrant and rudder pedals. Our friend Bojan has made a custom electronick for our homemade controls. Some of the features are: MECHANICAL FEATURES - high mechanical quality of all components and very sturdy design - smooth and responsive controls - yoke travel length for pitch axis of more than 200 mm ( about 8 inches) - yoke travel lenght in aileron axis 180 deegres - sturdy rudder pedals that have 8 inches back and forth movement ELECTRICAL FEATURES - Hight quality CUSTOM MADE ELECTRONICS WITH MICROCONTROLER P18F2550 or any other USB Pic - 10 analog axes with 10 bit electrical precision with 12 bit optional possibility - analog pitch trim control - 16 digital all purpose buttons and separatelly hat switch control - custom sensitivity that can affect individual analog axes adjustable throught custom software - noise free analog axes with posibility of dumping features JOYSTIK_BY_BOKI S59KB 8 BIT (author of elecronics and programming Bojan Kranjc our big friend from Slovenia) * Copyright: S59KB Thanks microelectronics, 2013 This is a simple demonstration of 8 Axis, 12 Buttons and Hat Joystick Controller Possibility of adjusting OFFSET potentiometer USING REFERENCES VREF+ and VREF- Due to the angle of the potentiometer. 9. Hi all! this is my first post here I hope its in the right place. Got to thank the AMAZING flight simmer community for tons and tons of valuable info that has enhanced my FSX experience in the last couple weeks since I got my hands on the software. Found the following resource for configuring camera views and just had to create some 'approach/taxi' cam views that I felt was sorely missing. Not for the hardcore simmers preference of viewing the world from inside the confines of your virtual cockpit, but for training I wanted views that showed a rear camera/front facing/top down angle of the whole aircraft and the land below (the default tail view doesnt do that for me). http://www.fstipsand...sx-cameras.html I have apended 4 views to the cameras.cfg file (found in same FSX folder the fsx.cfg is located in), as well as enabling the hidden AI aircraft views and disabling 2 of the tower views I never used. Feel free to backup you cameras.cfg file and try my own file (right click cameras.cfg/left click copy/right click in directory/left click paste - then open cameras.cfg and delete all text replacing with the complete cfg version below), or just add the views onto the end of the file, making sure the cameradefinition.xx numbers are unique (by default they should be if you havent edited the file before). Here is the complete cfg file that I now use followed by just the additions I made for these extra views if you just want to add them. I put some time in making them all work with the default aircraft in FSX so I think you will find them very useful ********************************complete cameras.cfg file******************************************* [CameraDefinition.001] Title = Cockpit Guid = {B1386D92-4782-4682-A137-738E25D1BAB5} Description = This is the description of the cockpit view Origin = Cockpit ShowPanel = Yes SnapPbhAdjust = Ordinal SnapPbhReturn = True PanPbhAdjust = Ordinal PanPbhReturn = True Track = None ShowAxis = FrontOnly AllowZoom = TRUE InitialZoom = 1.0 SmoothZoomTime = 2.0 ShowWeather = Yes XyzAdjust = TRUE ShowLensFlare=FALSE Category = Cockpit HotKeySelect=2 [CameraDefinition.002] Title = Virtual Cockpit Guid = {C95EAB58-9E4A-4E2A-A34C-D8D9D948F078} Description = This is the description of the virtual cockpit view. 10. Hi, So, I recently went and bought some modern USAF Flight Jackets (CWU-36/P and a CWU-45/P) to wear while flying and out and about during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. I also felt compelled to try to make patches that looked good with the flight jacket for my private pilot training. I'm looking for feedback from the community to see if you would tell me what you would want in custom patches if you were to design patches for a flight jacket and to let me know what you think of the ones I have created. I also have posted a picture of the patches modeled on a CWU-45/P picture. See below and let me know what you think. If it were popular enough, I have to make an order of more than one patch to get the custom patches made so I might be selling these extras on Ebay or elsewhere. I did the Cessna patch because I'm training in a 152 but also will have a design for a Piper should others be interested. I would also like to make patches for those who are already rated as a Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, or even ATP if there is interest so that you could replace patches as needed per your rank/experience. The awesome thing about the modern flight jackets is that they are hook and loop patches so you can customize how you want even when going up ratings in your flying. The patches could also be sewed on other flight jackets (MA-1, A-2, or other customized flight jackets). The patches should look good to attach on any flight jacket. The biggest thing I want to know is if Civilian Pilot Training looks good on the command patch or not. If not, what would you put there. Anyhow...let me know. Please note that I mean no disrepect to any of our proud armed forces and look forward to any veteran replies including USAF vets or current. Student Pilot Nametag (with Civilian Wings and Cessna type plane logo) Student Pilot Shoulder Patch (could be changed for Piper Aircraft Training and also have text changed to Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Helicopter Pilot, etc...) This is the command patch replacement for a Cessna Training. Would be edit for others including custom to the aircraft you fly. Looking for ideas on what you would put where it says Civilian Pilot Training. This is a photoshopped display of how the flight jacket would look like with all of the patches on including the typical 2x3 size American flag on the left shoulder. Flags of other nationalities could be done obviously but I'm proud of the USA so I might be biased. I invite all feedback as I want something that I think looks good, possibly with others wanting these patches to decorate their flight jackets. Thanks Eric
