  3. PMDG Pilots, With the upcomming, and HIGHLY anticipated DC6 comming out from PMDG. Golden Era Virtual would like to extend an offer to those profesional pilots who want to fly it together! What this means for PMDG Pilots: When the PMDG DC6 is released we will be adding it to our fleet instantly. We will also be including a section in our forum for story swapping on your adventures with this aircraft. We will also be looking for top of the line pilots to provide support to help newer pilots with learning this beauty of the skies. A little GEV background: Golden Era Virtual has only been around a short time. Golden Era Virtual was founded on December 23rd 2012, and went active Janurary 1st 2013. In this short amount of time, we have accumulated over 10 pilots from across the world. The virtual airline was created from scratch with a vision of more then just flying the big jumbo jets. GEV's fleet consists propliners only. We are a VATSIM only VA, that uses the VAFS5 client to run our ACARS. With this system our pilots fly for more then just hours, they fly for virtual currency as well. GEV is like no other virtual airline, in that we mean, real life comes first. We dont force activity on our pilots, or expect/demand rediculusly long flights to sustain a position within the VA. Our doors are open to all pilots interested in flying with us. Our number one belief is that within the flying world we are all family. Thats how we treat our pilots! Fleet: *3x Boeing 377 Stratocruiser *3x Beech Model 18 *3x Douglas DC-3 *3x Lockheed Constellation L-049 *3x SAAB 90 Scandia Hubs: KLGA - LaGuardia International: 1x Beech Model 18, 1x Douglas DC-3, 3x Boeing 377 Stratocruiser KMEM - Memphis International: 1x Beech Model 18, 1x Douglas DC-3, 3x Lockheed Constellation L-049 KTPA - Tampa International: 1x Beech Model 18, 1x Douglas DC-3, 3x SAAB 90 Scandia Where to find us: If you are interested, or looking for more information about us. 4. I just picked the DC-6 up today, and I wanted to express my thanks for bringing this excellent product to X-Plane. I love nostalgic aircraft, and this is just awesome in quality and immersion. X-Plane has received a significant boost with this product. Nice job PMDG! Cadmus Hawke

    DC-6 Diner

On Sunday we found this really cool diner and had lunch there, it's a DC-6 which has been converted into a diner & bar, you can walk into the flight deck and have a good look around, very clever idea, if you're ever near Coventry in the UK I'd definitely recommend checking it out. It's at the airport so you can sit in the DC-6 having a meal while watching the planes go by.
  7. I downloaded the DC-6 from PMDG about six months ago, enjoy it tremendously and, like most others, I have experienced the typical GPS "coupling issues" with the AP. I've used the various workarounds until something more permanent is available. A few days ago, I took the ac out for the first time since SU9. Haven't noticed any issues reported like, loss of oil pressure, engines rolling back... nothing. bird handles normally. I went to load a FP in and wanted to "follow the magenta line"., but lo and behold, I can get no display on the GNS430. Press any button.. nada. .I ensured I had the latest mod as suggested elsewhere in the PMDG forum.. I can see the screen light up and the bezel lighting, but the display screen is blank. I tried with an empty community folder, and one that has worked in the past.. No joy. What AM I doing wrong?? Any ideas??? Many thanks in advance..... P.S. I did post in PMDG forum, but after several days, no joy towards a solution.

  10. As many of you, I was highly disappointed after I bought the Douglas DC-6B from JustFlight. Graphically it's fine, both outside and in the VC, but it suffers from poorly modelled systems, highly unrealistic engine performance and bad sounds. With a few very simple modifications, you will have a completely different aircraft. It seems to perform more or less as the DC-6B is supposed to when it comes to performance. I'm personally into advanced aircraft with complex systems like the A2A Boeing Stratocruiser, and even after these modifications the DC-6 will be a bit on the simple side system-wise. Even so, I highly enjoy it. If you own it, I really recommend you to try these fixes! Make a backup of the aircraft.cfg, sound.cfg and panel.cfg file just in case something goes wrong. We are going to modify these. Open up aircraft.cfg in WordPad or another text editor. Find the "electrical" section of the file. Add the following line directly under the last entry of the "electrical" section: electric_always_available = 1 Find the "piston_engine" section of the file. Modify the line "max_design_mp" so that it reads max_design_mp=61 Modify the line "emergency_boost_type" so that it reads emergency_boost_type = 0 Optionally modify the line "fuel_air_auto_mixture" so that it reads fuel_air_auto_mixture = 1 This will simulate the real aircraft's "auto rich" setting and make power management much easier during climb. However, you won't be able to lean mixture during cruise. This may lead to slightly lower range. Save and close the aircraft.cfg file. Download and install the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 soundpack by Skyhigh Audio Simulations from the Avsim.com library. Read the readmy carefully! Download and install the Cockpit Sounds V2 by Daniel Gauthier from the Avsim.com library. Read the readmy carefully! That should be it! Note that you will have two versions of the DC-6B, Domestic and International. You will need to apply the above fixes to both to see the improvements in both versions. Good luck, and let me hear what you think!
  11. Hello, I'm flying and really enjoying the DC-6. I'm using P3Dv4. My question to the community is this: how can I map joystick buttons to autopilot functions? If I knew the control names, I could do it. I fully understand how to use FSUIPC. It's that there's so many entries in FSUIPC for autopilot functionality... I'm wanting to map the following items: On/Off switch Alt Hold switch The disengage lever (sorry to not recall its name) An axis (if possible) or buttons to the gyropilot left/right knob Mode selector (gyropilot, localizer and approach) Glide wheel or pitch wheel up/down I'd be very grateful if someone has this information. Thanks
  12. Hello, I just realized that Angelique van Campen has published Part 1 of a very intensive review of the new PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster. I'll be working on reading this in the next few days, but wanted to post the link so everyone else can enjoy it too. It looks like it will be very interesting. http://www.x-plained...-6-cloudmaster/ Enjoy! Bob Angelique van Campen
  13. Moved by the DC-6 for X-Plane development by PMDG, and in anticipation of glimpsing its VC for the first time, a couple of weeks ago I did something I never thought I would. I bought X-Plane. After years and years of Microsoft flight simulator, preceded by countless hours of fun with the amazing FLY! series, I reached a point were I was happy with the sim. FSX was finally working flawlessly on my machine, and considering the amount of high end addons for sale (I admit I own quite a few, especially from PMDG and A2A) I felt compelled to stay with FSX forever. Please note that FSX is, and will be installed on my computer for as long as I keep flying virtual airplanes, however this isn't about comparing two simulators, it is about explaining how it was incredibly rewarding for me to spend the last few weeks learning the ins and outs of a new platform, and obtaining results I never thought I would. Since I needed an advanced aircraft to properly understand how X-plane would behave with a complex airplane, and the Dc-6 was a few weeks away, I've bought the IXEG 737 and spent a few hours learning both the airplane and the sim while searching and installing loads of freeware content which greatly improved my experience. Basically, the interface isn't as easy to use as the FSX interface, the view options and controls are quite hard to set up properly, but I found so many tutorials online that after one hour or so I was using the sim as a pro. I've found it to perform reasonably well on my system, with some limitations mostly related to clouds which do affect performance if not correctly set. I love the fact that it is possible to change the time of the day, and weather without the sim having to load anything, it is an instantaneous process. As I said I won't compare the two simulators, I can only say that I'm happy with my choice and I now have two different platforms with a multitude of addons ready to be explored. After the DC-6 release I haven't flown anything else, it is simply amazing, and especially, a joy to hand-fly (by my personal experience all the advanced addons I've bought for X-Plane handle incredibly well during manual flight), and I've covered several thousands of miles mostly going up and down Portugal with it, loving every moment so far. I'll leave you some of my latest screenshots, please note that apart from the airplanes, everything else including scenery is freeware, which surprised me considering the quality (Real terra haze, Spain UHD, and some airports). So, in the end it was quite easy to adapt to this platform, the planes behave fantastically, the DC-6 as expected is a work of art, and if you're undecided about whether or not you should get X-plane for one airplane only, all I can say is that it is quite easy to make X-plane look amazing without spending any money, considering the quality of the freeware, and there are already some excellent airplanes for the platform, with detailed systems and fantastic flight dynamics. There is a learning curve, mostly regarding the user interface, but it isn't as bad as some people claim, nothing that a few tutorials won't solve. To PMDG, thank you for another excellent airplane, and for giving me a good reason to try X-plane.
  14. I'm flying to Memphis in the PMDG DC-6B after updating it earlier today. I'm not seeing any improvement to the autopilot. It seems to be exactly like it was before. Anyone else tried the update? To me, it still doesn't work like it did in P3D and when first released to MSFS. Or, is it working and I'm misremembering how it worked before? Once Gyropilot is switched on and the clutch (Autopilot) engaged, I can no long influence the airspeed with the trim wheel. Switching on Altitude hold kind of works, but not like it did. Although this is hard to judge since you can't change pitch/VS once the prior switch (GP) is switched. It could be it now accurately models the real aircraft and the previous iteration was wrong, but I doubt that.
