  1. Now that the chip shortage has begun to ease, and prices on high end GPU's are coming down, I bought an RX-6800-XT card last month, to replace the RX-5500-XT that I installed when I built this machine two years ago. So, it's great, I can finally use MSFS "High" and "Ultra" graphics settings and get 30 fps, EXCEPT at latitudes above about 85° North or South. Has anyone else noticed this? To test it, I set up flight plans that cross directly over the North and South poles, one from Presidente Carlos Ibáñez International Airport in Punta Arenas, Chile (SCCI) to Perth, Australia (YPPH) that crosses almost directly over the south pole, then one from CFS Alert (CYLT) to Suntar Airport in Russia (UENS), that crosses within a couple of miles of the North Pole. At first, the frame rate is as expected, about 30 fps, but once above 85° latitude, the frame rate begins to drop. Above 88°, it's un-flyable, with the frame rate dropping below 5 fps. Even at Alert, which is at 82°N, the frame rate is lower than it should be, 26~28 fps. Not un-flyable, but less than it would be anywhere in mid-latitudes. Now here's the strange thing: Looking at the performance metrics, neither the GPU nor CPU are seeing maxxed-out utilization. Maybe 50% for the GPU, and 25% for the CPU. Temperatures and power levels are low-average. So why is the frame rate lagging? Also, has anyone else noticed that the center of Antarctica has no DTM terrain model? It's like a huge hole there, a couple of hundred miles across, with the "ground" at 0' elevation, whereas it should be at about 9.300 feet at Amundson-Scott South Pole Station. Because of this hole in the DTM, and the low frame rate, I guess it would not be possible to model the NZSP airfield there. When I used to play around with custom airport design in FSX, I noticed that runways at very high latitudes would have very strange curves in them. I guess the designers at Asobo haven't figured out how to mitigate these issues in MSFS? I've also just now noticed that the chart display in Little Nav Map is blank above 85° in both North and South latitude.
  2. TLDR: The red numbers in the jpg are the bottom line percentage performance gains. I wanted FS2020 but had a good inkling it would most likely be a bit of a mess on release so I waited for feedback before purchasing. IMO sure enough, seeing how 1/2 done FS2020 currently is, and how it will be for a while, I have not yet purchased it and won't until the study sim tubeliners are sorted. So instead, seeing as though I have hundreds of $$$ invested in FSX, I decided it was finally time for me to upgrade and see if I can stretch FSX's legs a bit more. The end result is the below accurate as possible personal benchmarks I have done before and after an upgrade of cpu, motherboard and memory. Hopefully this is helpful for other FSX owners. I've tried to keep it apples to apples as possible. The graphs I now see are upside down, oh well, deal with it. 🙂 Both cpu setups were run on reasonable fresh win10 installs. Used 4 distinctly varied scenery/location save points. Recorded 35 seconds of stabilized info with MSI Afterburner. This is bare bones stock FSX retail with Acceleration. (nice to see the MS activation servers are back online, used to have to phone in the code) Important fsx.cfg Settings: AffinityMask=14 BLOOM_EFFECTS=0 TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 WideViewAspect=True TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 NUM_LIGHTS=8 AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1 AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1 COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1 LANDING_LIGHTS=1 AC_SELF_SHADOW=0 EFFECTS_QUALITY=2 GROUND_SHADOWS=1 TEXTURE_QUALITY=3 IMAGE_QUALITY=0 See_Self=1 D3D10=0 CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=8 DETAILED_CLOUDS=1 CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8 LENSFLARE=1 DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1 IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5 SmallPartRejectRadius=1.0 AirlineDensity=100 GADensity=100 FreewayDensity=100 ShipsAndFerriesDensity=100 LeisureBoatsDensity=100 IFROnly=0 AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=5 LOD_RADIUS=5.500000 MESH_COMPLEXITY=100 MESH_RESOLUTION=25 TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29 AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5 DETAIL_TEXTURE=1 WATER_EFFECTS=7
  3. Hello, I recently bought a GTX 970 4GB graphics card for my PC as previously I didnt have a graphics card. My current PC specs are; GeForce GTX 970 Intel Core i5-4690k CPU 3.5ghz 8.00GB RAM Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium But I loaded up at EGCC on fsx it was overcast and I was using rex soft clouds and my weather settings were on detailed clouds and maximum cloud coverage but when I look at the clouds I went from locked 30 which I have it set as to 10-12 frames. Addons I was using were, UK2000 EGCC, FTX EU England, ORBX global, ASNext, REX Soft clouds, Precipit FX, Aerosoft Airbus A320/A321 Please help!
  4. I just updated my nvidia drivers and turned on DSR at 3.0 + 33% smoothness and I am stunned at how sharp everything is and I gained frame rate, yes gained! The Clouds are incredible, I don't know if there is a side effect that may rear its ugly head later, but for now, pure bliss.
  5. Hi I am new to this program. I got it to work and it is great, however, there is a problem. The checklists and procedures are fine but when I say "runway entry procedures" and enter the runway, I loose so much frame rates that FSX starts to lag. It lags almost all the way to my destination but gets better near landing. Why is this happening? My windows 7 is north american and my speech recog is in us-english. If I fly without fs2crew there is no framerate problem but flights become bland without a FO. This problem is keeping me from buying the emergency and other Fs2crew products. Please help me!!!!!!!! Thanks
  6. I would like to introduce software add-on that monitors Flight Simulator changes and performance: http://secure.simmarket.com/simsettingsmanager-fsx-p3d.phtml
  7. So, I had x plane 11 on my laptop: CPU: 1.8 GHz RAM: 8gb 750gb HDD And I just switched it over to my desktop: CPU: 3.8 GHz RAM: 8gb 1tb HDD, newly formatted and a brand new install of windows 10 * My desktop does not have an upgraded graphics card nor does my laptop * All settings are on minimum I have not run any tests on my desktop yet to see the usage of the cpu and other items. I dont believe my cpu is overheating because everything else runs perfect. This just doesnt make sense to me. I can actually fly a plane on my laptop with a slower processor, but not on my desktop with the same RAM and nearly twice the processing power. Any ides are welcome. Id rather not shell out extra cash for a graphics card, but I might be willing to purchase more RAM.
  8. Hi all, I'm curious about the performance I am getting with my setup. I have a new laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200. The specs are located here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Satellite-P75-A7200-Notebook.103741.0.html :: Processor Intel Core i7-4700MQ 2.4 GHz (Intel Core i7) :: Mainboard Intel HM86 (Lynx Point) :: Memory 8192 MB, DDR3-1600 MHz :: Graphics adapter Intel HD Graphics 4600, Core: 400 - 1150 MHz, 9.18.10.3107 1792MB available graphics memory (in system settings) :: Display 17.3 inch 16:9, 1920x1080 pixel, AUO209D, TN LED, glossy: yes :: Harddisk HGST Travelstar 5K1000 HTS541075A9E680, 750 GB 5400 rpm It seems based on these specs I would have a good consistent high frame rate but when I am landing at an airport, my framerate drops down to 10fps or below with the default rendering options. I have dropped the number of objects and roads down to "a lot" and it still gets pretty jerky when landing. any ideas or tips on how to improve this? overall it isn't too bad but I would like it better of course if I could keep my framerate above 20 all the time if possible (without having to sacrifice much).. Thanks, -Tavis
  9. Everything went fine in the past months, but today, I load my -700 and noticed that on every control input the frame rate drops about 20-25fps. Without any input the frame rate is fine (around 45-50), but when I move the stick it drops... :( I use X52 for years with no problem till today. Does anyone have the same satuation?
  10. I was interested to know if anyone could give me some help regarding the laggy gameplay on FSX at the moment on my PC. I have uploaded my Direct X diag if thats any use to anyone. Here are the stats that I know of, anything else just ask; Zoostrom PC (no idea what the model name is!, fairly new, purchased around 2 months back from Argos) CPU = Intel® Core™ i3-2120 @3.30GHz Installed Memory / Ram = 8.00GB System Type = 64-bit Operating System (Windows 7 Home Premium SP1) Graphics Card = Intel HD Graphics (I'm guessing it's crap! It came with the computer!) Hard Drive = SAMSUNG HD204UI ATA DEVICE 2TB Windows performance ratings: BASE SCORE = 5.2 PROCESSOR = 7.1 MEMORY(RAM) = 7.5 GRAPHICS = 5.2 GAMING GRAPHICS = 5.8 PRIMARY HARD DISK = 5.9 (scores current as of 12th/August/2012) Addons on FSX; PMDG 737-800/900 NGX PMDG JS4100 Manchester Airport UK scenery UK2000 FlyTampa St.Marteen and the other one airport round that airport
  11. hi everybody, with the R key and then crtl and num + or - we can adjust the time rate. but how can we view it? so we will know in what time rate we are in every moment? also i can't find a way to watch the frame rate inside the sim. i use afterburner to do it externally but i don't trust it 100%. thank you
