  1. This trip was loosely (very loosely!) based on a report of an EMERCOM IL-76 mission. The plane delivered 40 tons of supplies to Simferopol (I believe the max.payload is 100000 lb - 50 tons). The return trip flew 52 refugees to Voronezh. http://www.airmedandrescue.com/story/russia-flies-ukrainian-refugees876 This is the return trip. The tough transport plane is ready. Waiting for passengers. Taxying out. Getting her cleaned up. Goodbye Simferopol (need to get FTX Vectors or something to sort out airfield elevations! :( ) Approaching the Sea of Azov. Descending towards Voronezh. Visual for RWY12. A little high... however, we'll soon sort that out.... Told you we'd sort it! Not too many screams; not that many windows in the back! :Shame On You: Perfect 3-point landing! ON THE NOSE GEAR!! Everybody out. Preliminary inspection of the nose gear indicates it is fine. It's Russian. It can go off road. Not a problem! Thanks for viewing.
  2. Finally returning to her country of origin, Odin's handmaiden prepares to flex her mighty wings. An early start from Rio. 6 turning & burning. Goodbye Rio De Janeiro. Thanks for the hospitality. There's a large ship below the murk. Early morning sun Flying over MMFJ (miles & miles of f.... jungle) Hello Venezuela! Bye bye South America Hello Cuba! Don't worry Pres. Castro. Nothing to see here! Imagine back in the day an XB-70 over Cuba - Fidel would have had kittens! Descending to Florida Down, dirty & (relatively!) slow over MM... well, you get the picture. Getting vectored around somewhere over the Everglades. On approach to KMIA rwy 12 Down... & down. Another great white bird, although she is known as the Queen of the Skies. Shutdown. Thanks for viewing.
  3. One of the guys at the glider club who's also a flightsimmer suggested I try flying to Chambery then taking the little WT9 Dynamic to Courchevel. So..here goes. I only have the default 737 and A321, but I do like the 757 & have the Freemium version so my decision was made. I took off from my local - Manchester mid-morning. Out over the Channel Not much to see on the short trip, but then the stock ATC told me to expect a visual approach for RWY 36 !! Interesting... there's quite a bit of terrain coming in from that direction. In reality I believe that approaches are made initially to RWY 18 then broken off with a circling approach to RWY 36. Typical FSX ATC vectored me more or less straight in over the mountains!! However, the ATC did not vector me into the side of a mountain.. LFLB is about 30 degrees off to port. Capt. Speaking:, "Ah, Hoskins, this reminds me of my RAF days!", "Hoskins?? Are you alright man?", "Calm down and let the pax know we'll be landing VERY SOON, there's a good chap!" Easy does it. Trees may need a little pruning.. Down she goes. You have control Hoskins.. A nice day for it! Thanks for viewing.
  4. UPS MD-11 overnighter to ENGX (East Midlands) from KSLC. Cheers!
  5. On a flight from Reykjavik, Iceland to Station Nord, Greenland. I flew over this huge rectangular artifact in the ocean (North Atlantic?) between the two countries. Cheers!
  6. Having taken off from BGNO in terrible weather I stopped off at Thule airbase then continued with a full cargo load to Anchorage (PANC). Just a couple of shots showing the sunrise and early morning on the apron. Thanks for viewing.
  7. What a snowstorm! 20+kt winds (slightly crosswind) gusting to over 40! The stalwart Ilyushin is just the plane to try and bully itself into the air Morning takeoff? Yes...From Station Nord in Greenland (BGNO) at about 10 am...
  8. In light of recent events in Italy at the Rigopiano Hotel in the Abruzzo region, I decided to utilise the IL-76 in a mercy flight to the nearest airfield with 50 tons of replacement rescue equipment and helicopter parts. LIAP appeared to be the closest airport with enough tarmac to handle the big STOL. Manchester is well known for days like this! The spotters at the Airport Hotel don't see many of these! Typical! We'll be above all this soon. Over the Swiss Alps. Beginning the descent. All dirtied up, she's got everything hanging out in the breeze! Hopefully we won't be doing any off-roading today! Touchdown! Taxiway's a bit narrow! Time to get everything unloaded. Cheers.
  9. On the way to KMHL Sacramento. Just because I like the T7. Don't know if Southern Air's still in business, but DHL is..
  10. Having flown a 757 in an unorthodox approach to LFLB, it was time to get the little WT-9 Dynamic over to Chambery with a view to taking it up to Courchevel, weather depending. I'd already flown the Dynamic from the UK to France. I believe she's actually got the range to go from Blackpool to Chambery in one go....just! - it's only about 600nm! However, I didn't want to set up a 6 hour or so flight! So I stopped off at Bembridge on the Isle of Wight before continuing on to Briare Chatillon (LFEI) just to break the journey up. At Briare pre-flight. Weather should be quite good today. I'm sure the blue taildragger was at Bembridge before I set off! Cruising along at about 5500, cloudbase just above, shouldn't be a problem. If the weather becomes a problem I can always stop and read the owner's handbook!! Chambery should be just over these hills.. Aha! Hello! Cleared to land rwy18 Slight crosswind from the west.... that's my story anyway! Come on turnoff point... There's that blue taildragger again... I'm being stalked! Thanks for viewing.
  11. Decided to have a little potter about in the lovely WT9 Dynamic in Scotland. I did a flight from Benbecula to Carlisle - here's a few snapshots. Thanks to Freemesh X, I've got some mountains and I downloaded a freeware landclass for Scotland which is a distinct improvement over the stock terrain. Thanks for viewing.
  12. Some nasty weather in the vicinity of WSSS. I think the huge front overhang unnerved the tug driver - at least the nose is pointing roughly in the right direction! Turning & burning on 20C Valkyrie - Rider on the storm! The weather is now irrelevant although I'm not at FL750 yet. Australia is quite a large continent don't you know! On descent to Christchurch Pretty! Not a bad approach - the autopilot can let the XB-70 get a bit mushy on the glideslope at (relatively!) slow speeds. The people in the tower look on in amazement! Canterbury Aero Club guys were impressed too! Not sure if the King Air was too happy having to hang back a bit from all that jet exhaust! Rest, sweet maiden of Odin - you shall ride again soon! Thanks for viewing!
  13. Anyone else have Van Halen's song in their heads whilst overflying this part of the world? On a cargo haul from Miami to Quito (the current, less challenging airport) Cheers.
  14. One fine day, the police paid a visit to Bowland Forest Gliding Club. They were on a training flight, but had the opportunity to use it as a bit of PR and warn us of criminal activity in the area. Apparently a couple of nefarious aviating brothers had turned their sights on stolen gliders; Norville and Dilbur Rong were believed to be at large in the north west of England. On approach, checking out the local prevailing winds. The scenery for the clubhouse, glider trailers, caravans and hangar area is quite accurate, as is the hedgerows bordering the airfield. (Neil Birch's freeware scenery https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/8386/fsx-bowland-forest-gliding-club-scenery/) A pity I don't have any photoreal scenery to represent the the terrain as it should be, at least the actual terrain mesh is recognisable (thank you freemesh x!) Into the hover & land. The hill in the background (Parlick) is not covered in trees, it is just moorland IRL !! The crew kindly let us inspect their impressive machine. Thank you , Officers & goodbye! The hill to the left in the background is Beacon Fell (it is covered in trees, more so than FSX would have you believe!). The hedgerow running across the screenie behind the fenestron borders Fiddlers Lane. A short flight out to the coast near Fleetwood, then down to Blackpool (sadly, no scenery of any note on the sim). On the helipad at Blackpool airport. Thanks for viewing!
