  1. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I am still learning the forum layout. Hello all, I am just about completed with my FSX PC and my first sim pit. I have many software and add-on questions answered, though I am still not sure what to do about ATC and Traffic. I know it has probably been beat to death, but nothing I read sways me in a direction. I try to fly as realistically as I know how, and my aviation knowledge is only basic. I kind of know what SIDs and STARs are and that is about my large aircraft ATC/Navigation knowledge. I fly general aviation aircraft and small to medium charter aircraft. I have/would like a2a 172, realair duke2.0, baytowerstudios RV, aerosoft twin otter, flight1 king air... and would like to get into the majestic Q and some PMDG's someday. So my problem is that I don't know what to look at for add-on traffic and ATC programs. I did look at VOXATC and decided not to go a "spoken aloud" direction. So considering that I enjoy small aircraft and that I generally fly into smaller airports, does anyone have any suggestions for a program? Hopefully a product that combines ATC and Traffic? I would love to come to a large airport and see planes in holding patterns rather than the occasional plane come straight in and land. Or have to wait for a plane to land at a small local airstrip before I can get on the runway. It seems at my home airport KLND, even with traffic all the way up, I never ever see any other planes. I am sorry, this post is not organized at all in it's presentation, but basically I would love a combined ATC/Traffic solution that is PRETTY realistic and something that I can continue to grow with as my knowledge increases and I move on to more complex aircraft. P.S. I will eventually try VATSIM, but don't plan to use it in the close future. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
  2. edit: That should read "instructor" - thank you google chrome autocorrect
  3. Hello. I'm looking for a combined ATC and Traffic program for FSX. I fly mostly general aviation aircraft, vfr at the moment; but want something that can grow as my skills and hangar grow. I am looking for non-voice controlled ATC that is semi realistic and traffic that enters and follows patterns. I always fly out of KLND, a small town airport, and with FSX traffic all the way up I think I remember seeing one plane come in and land. I cannot seem to find a direction I want to pursue through my own research and would appreciate any input. Thank you.
  4. Hi all, I'm planning to do a cross country flight in FSX from New York to Washington in the coming weeks. I was hoping to find some recommendations for a good GA plane to use for cross-country flying, especially as I'm looking to make many stops and take scenic routes. I'm looking at the Carenado V35B Bonanza and am also considering the larger Carendao PA32R 301 Saratoga SP (to give my virtual friends and family more leg room, haha). But I'm open to any and all suggestions. Are there any planes you like or would recommend specifically for cross-country flying (or even in general). As always, I sincerely appreciate your time and feedback! I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend! Thank you!!
  5. After finishing a world tour of the northern hemisphere the other day, I've already started to plan for a new tour focusing on the southern hemisphere. I'm looking into crossing the Atlantic from Guinea Republic to Brazil, and the Pacific from Chile to New Zealand. This is what I've got so far: Pacific crossing 1. SCSN-SCIR Santo Domingo, Chile - Robinson Crusoe, Chile | 366nm => Note: SCSN rwy length 800m SCIR rwy length 1007m 2. SCIR-SCIP Isla de Pascua | 1621nm => TBM 3. SCIP-NTGJ Totegegie, French Pacific Overseas Terr. | 1405nm => TBM 4. NTGJ-NTGY Tureia, French Pacific Overseas Terr. | 247nm 5. NTGY-NTKU Nukutepipi, French Pacific Overseas Terr. | 252nm 6. NTKU-NTGA Anaa, French Pacific Overseas Terr. | 245nm 7. NTGA-NTAA Tahiti, French Pacific Overseas Terr. | 236nm 8. NTAA-NCMK Mauke, Cook Is. | 466nm 9. NCMK-NCRG Rarotonga, Cook Is. | 152nm 10. GUCY-SBFN Conakry, Guinea Rep. - Fernando de Noronha, Brazil | 1386nm => TBM 2. SBFN-SBNT Natal, Brazil | 209nm Total length Guinea-Brazil: 1,595nm => 8 hours at 200kts Aircraft (I'm not going to stick to one for the whole tour) Daher TBM930 range 1730nm ceiling 31000ft cruise 290kts G3000 Cessna 414 Chancellor range 1328nm ceiling 30800ft cruise 203kts GTN750 Cessna 310R range 1283nm ceiling 20000nm cruise 171kts GTN750 DA62 mod range 1283nm ceiling 20000ft cruise 171kts G1000 GNXi Daher Kodiak 100 range 1132nm ceiling 25000ft cruise 183kts G1000 GNXi DA40 NGX mod range 940nm ceiling 16400ft cruise 135kts G1000 GNXi Bonanza G36 range 920nm ceiling 18500ft cruise 176kts G1000 GNXi Analog Caravan range 789nm ceiling 25000ft cruise 185kts GTN750 --- As you can see, both crossings are challenging due to the range of the TBM. I'm afraid it might be marginal. What do you think? Is it doable? Or perhaps it's better to wait until the analog King Air releases. And sorry for the wall of text.
  6. Hi guys! Thought I would share this timelapse from a recent livestream on Twitch. I hope you enjoy
  7. Hey Everyone, We had a decent turnout last night with the Hawaii Stearman group flight with about 10-12 total throughout the flight. We actually had a few people join who I didn't know before the event. After we finished the Stearman Flight, we did some cub landing challenges and a warbird race down the Skeena River in B.C. This got me thinking, we could do several group flights in one night with the same people, but with a little of something everyone likes. My friend Coast has posted a disscussion topic on what type of events the MS Flight flyers would like to see. http://msflights.net/forum/showthread.php?594-Request-for-input-into-what-you-would-like-to-see-in-future-MS-Flight-events You can either post your ideas there or on this topic on Avsim. I do believe that most of our upcoming events will take place in the Hawaii and Alaska expansion packs and will feature any available aircraft, and several events that will require repaints. So, feel free to post your ideas of what you'd like to see. Lastly, the most important thing about these events is that we'll have to promote them ourselves, and not rely on Kitty from Microsoft Flight. F50ACE

    HondaJet

It is really too bad the Honda legal-beagles are so militant! The June issue of Flying magazine has a "we fly" evaluation of the HondaJet and it sounds like a terrific aircraft in so many ways: fast, quiet, spacious, and most of all, "intelligent". Really too bad...
  9. Here's an illustrated summary of my general aviation world tour that I completed yesterday. My overall impression after travelling 24,082 nautical miles (44,600km) is that there is beauty everywhere. 10. Quick question--If you're flying a GA prop aircraft, how would you go about doing it without the FSX ATC? I really don't like FSX's Air Traffic Control, and while I have abandoned it with jet aircraft, which can fly SID's and STAR's to get in and out of airports, I'm not sure how to go about doing that for lighter prop aircraft that don't fly SID's and STAR's, and that don't have VNAV. What would be the best way to do this?Thanks,boeing247
  11. Hello, I was Hoping someone could make a livery of this aircraft ... This was the very first plane I ever flew, a Piper Archer II, and I hope someone could make a repaint of it (On Carenado's Archer II would be the best), If you need more pictures of the plane just look up N8346H on google. I would really love this plane in my Colection. Thanks to anyone who replies.
  12. Hello! I was deciding between the Saitek yoke and rudder or the X55. Dont wanna get too indepth but is the X55 good for boeings like the NGX 737 and cessnas or would it make sense to get the 6 year old yoke? Will using an X55 feel weird and is it any good to set flaps as there isnt really a lever or anything like that? You get what I mean, If i want to fly Boeings and Cessnas, whats better? x55 or saitek yoke and rudder and what are the cons of both of them (the x55 and yoke, besides the rudder) and ill just tell me whats better for me. Please dont say its up to you, i dont want this to go too indepth, just looking for 1 or 2 straight forward answers Thanks in advance.
  13. I have read it has been quite the roller coaster ride for a lot of people here in the Prepar3D forum, specifically V5 HF1. I would concur up until yesterday, but I think I have figured out MY system requirements. Specs in my signature. First off, I am strictly a GA flyer so you PMDG pilots will likely gain nothing. But, same as you, I was suffering a lot of Nvidia crashes, and most recently, KERNELBASE.dll errors. Simulator death lurked at every corner... 🙂 So, here's what I did: 1 - I use RivaTuner for display only, and use Nvidia Control Panel for frame limiter. 2 - I limit P3D frames to 30, no GSYNC, and limit NCP to 29. That way (at least from what I have read) if I get a late frame it is "absorbed" by NCP. The reason I limit P3D to 30 frames is to reduce load - no sense running Unlimited to needlessly chew up CPU cycles. 3 - My only *.cfg modifications are FFTF=0.40 - I want that scenery RENDERED - and MAX_TEXTURE_REQUEST_DISTANCE=320000.000000. I loved Rob Aincough's TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10 but I think that combined with request distance was the reason I was getting so many Nvidia crashes right out of the gate. 4 - To compensate, I can now run max LOD slider and 8xSSA with 4096 textures! My GTX 1080 does not complain at all. All other sliders are one step removed from max, with the exception of vegetation - I love my vegetables. Now I run butter smooth, crisply render textures, at altitudes ranging from 3,500 to 15,500, and I can see off into the distance forever. Well, at least for now - I have yet to install my bizjets for higher altitude flying. And I have a new metric - if my CPU busy falls below 30-percent busy for any amount of time I know I am good. As it is, I average about 45% busy, with spikes to 75%, and my Nvidia load is about the same with a VRAM use of 4-5Gb. Remember, I am a GA flyer only, so your loads will vary. But before these mods, I could pause the sim and watch it expend lots of CPU cycles playing catch-up until it returned to idle state of around 13% system busy. Now, when I hit pause it pauses, period! One other thing non-related to performance is that I have water optimization set to OFF. I find the water in V5 to be ghastly, with visual waves on rivers and lakes that would scuttle anything less than a 30-footer. And in all my years of flying and being on the ocean on boats I have never seen the ocean reflect anything. Refraction, yes - reflection no. Now I get to reload the fleet (I did a complete mind-wipe of Prepar3D - all six directories, including all Orbx libraries) and recreate the world According to John Venema. Finally getting smart enough to load everything through addon.xml... 🙂
