  1. Hi, Recently I discovered that when the temperature is below 10 degress, GSX tells you to start engines after the pushback is completed due to icing contiditons. So my question is, do they not start engines until after pushback if icing conditions are present in real life? And if so, why is that? I don't understand how it can make any difference if you start the engines during pushback, or after the pushback. Thanks in advance
  2. Hello aviators, my name is Matthew Smith and I am the vice CEO of our new project, FSAware. We will be launching our website at the end of this year and will be using smartcars 2. We are basically a club where you can fly IFR or VFR. You can choose any airline and any route, so no more deciding on which VA to fly for. Hours will be logged and added up for all flights you do. We fly a wide range of aircraft and nearly every airline. You can fly anywhere at any time. If you have any questions or route suggestions or any suggestions for the club, either email me at flightsimulationclub@gmail.com or come visit our teamspeak, 2799820.ts3.mpgs.co or reply to this post and we will get back to you ASAP. We'd love to hear your thoughts! Kind regards, Matthew Smith, Vice CEO
  3. The audible cockpit alarms (terrain, 500, etc.) in the Carenado SR 22 are way to loud. Anyone know how to turn them down? Thanks.
  4. Hi, As we are getting into the colder part of the year, I thought I'd ask a question about deicing. So, in real life, when you are at an airport which requires you to perform on-stand deicing, should you tell ATC that you will be performing the on-stand deicing within the next couple of minutes, or would you just do it at your own discretion?
  5. Hey guys. New to the forum, been here quite a bit but I would like to say hi! Pretty nice community from what I've seen, so I can now ask questions on problems.. etc... On the other hand, I have a Discord.gg server for flight simulation and VATSIM! You can join it here: https://discord.gg/yNP2pC4 Anyway, hope I have a good time. THanks
  6. I first flew on the Apple II SubLogic flight sim many, many years ago, and eventually graduated to Sierra's ProPilot. Since then I've been away from the hobby, so I have no idea what's going on these days. I just picked up FSX-Steam Edition, and started playing with it while I wait for my first HOTAS joystick to be delivered. I'm having fun flying around with the ultralight model with mouse and keyboard (what a pain!). What I'd like some advice on is which sim software is best for what I'm interested in, and which aircraft should I be flying. I'm interested in single engine prop with minimal instrumentation. I'd rather learn how to hold my altitude than to learn how to push an altitude hold button on an autopilot. I'm interested in enjoying the scenery and visiting new places. I'm not interested in keeping schedules and timetables. I aspire to be a casual flyer, with a simple aircraft, flying low and slow, and following highways, rivers and coastlines. Scenic eye candy is a priority for me. Any suggestions on which sim and what aircraft I should try out? What add-ons are good for eye-candy fans? (My home town is KEUG so a nice looking home airport would be a plus too.) Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  7. I'm wondering how you are meant to know which NADP that should be used for departure. I know that it usually says on the charts, but at an airport such as EKCH it only says: Noise Abatement Procedure No turns allowed Before: etc.... So should I assume NADP 2 should be used since that seems to be the normal one at which you accelerate and derate at the same time?
  8. At an airport such as LGSM (Samos) there is a VOR and NDB approach heading straight towards the runway, which means that the last part is flown manually, so that you align with the runway. So, I'd assume ATC clears you for the VOR (or NDB) approach, but since they've cleared you for a VOR approach, are you still allowed to start flying the visual bit of the approach, or do you need to recive another clearance stating that you are cleared to start flying visually?
  9. Does anyone here know waht happened to Boris' page? I've tried to get to in on a number of times but all I get is a white screen. But it tells me his page is there.
  10. The other day when I flew on vatsim, i got cleared on the ILS approach via the arrival route. Before that clearance i got a descent to 5000 feet. And when I got cleared on the ILS I never recived any futher descent clearance even though the ILS started at 3000 feet. So does a ILS clearance via arrival route mean that you may descend with the glide path at own discretion or do you need to recive an explicit descent clearance also?
  11. Hi, In the Boeing 737 I am aware of how to perform a Engine bleed off takeoff, and using APU bleed for the packs. Now just out of curiousity, I'm wondering if it would be possible to have ALL bleeds off (Engine bleeds and APU bleed) for departure and therefore obviously not using the packs. Or are there any systems other than the air conditioning that requires any type of bleed air, which would make it impossible to have all bleeds off? Thanks in advance
  12. Hi All, I wanted to write a quick note to say hi. I'm Zack, a totally blind flight sim enthusiast from the US. I'm only able to play with FSX at all thanks to the add-on community, in particular a lovely program called Its Your Plane. It allows me to control many planes largely by voice command, which while it isn't realistic is probably the closest I'm going to get. I was really into FSX back in 2009 or thereabouts, and have just been bitten by the bug again. I used to love exploring add-ons for ATC and traffic and the like, and need to work on rebuilding my collection. It's a mildly expensive hobby, however. Scenery and so forth isn't very useful for me, obviously, but I adore anything with a big audio component, or that I can use for a more "realistic," experience. I'm hoping to have a fun time around here
  13. Hi, When do you use autoland for during a landing? I know that the 737 needs to autoland when the visibility is 200m, but what is the visibility is for example 400m? Would you still autoland then even though it's not at the minimums of 200m? Thanks in advance
  14. Hi I'm wondering if you have to include aircraft type on your initial contact with ATC during approach and on ground (Approach controller and Delivery), or if you only need to do that if specified in the ATIS. I'm quite certain that you always need to do it in the UK, but my question is regarding the rest of Europe. Now, the reason that made me think about this was because the other day when I flew with ATC, I did not include my aircraft type in my request for clearance to delivery, since it didn't say in the ATIS. But the ATC then asked me to tell him my aircraft type even though it did not say anything in the ATIS or on the Charts. So this made me wonder how it works in the real world. Do they always include aircraft type, or should it only be included if specified? And do you include aicraft type on initial contact with Approach? Thanks in advance.
  15. Hi to everybody This is my first post to this forum and I am seeking some help/advice with regards to a new computer and operating system. I do not consider myself a ‘gamer’ but I do like MS flight simulators. I currently have FS 2002 & FSX Standard. I did have FS 2004, which I let a grandson have, but a disc got damaged and I did not bother to replace it. I also have British Airports and VFR Scenery for most of the UK. All worked well in 2002 and 2004 – no good for FSX. I currently play on a desktop with Win XP SP3, which is not connected to the Internet, so I do not do any on-line flying with others. I have a cheap and cheerful laptop with Win 7, which is not capable of running the simulators. The desktop was built in 2007 and still has its original Pentium 4, motherboard and memory card. I am on my third hard drive and second GPU. I replaced the GTX 9800 with a cheap one [just about works with 2002 but no good with FSX] as I was looking at a new system. Well that was nearly three years ago. But personal reasons have rather delayed any new system. The MB I fear is on borrowed time. If that goes then I will the EULA problem with my WinXP. My main problem is what OS? If I go Linux it is not compatible with FS. I can still get Win7 but that will have all support removed in a couple of years. I certainly do not want Win10. I have been completely put off by their cynical marketing practices. I have had and have enough almost weekly probs with the free upgrade being shoved down my throat. I fit had not been for the MS Forums and my computer magazine, I would have dumped my laptop. I am aware of other simulators that will run well in Linux, but the general opinion here and elsewhere is that it is not yet as good as MS FS. Also I know that DS has the MS Licence for fight simulators and has released a ‘Steam’ edition. Will this also only run on Windows? I now hope I have posted in the right place. Rgds
  16. I just joined the forum yesterday to be able to chat with other aviation/flight sim enthusiasts and to get help with things in FSX when I need it. As always when I join a new forum, where do I begin or where should I post first (besides this)? I'm looking forward to a great time here on AVSIM and look forward to meeting new people! Adios for now, Fredric
  17. Hello flightsimmers at avsim, Although I hang around here for a while, this is my first post and I use the opportunity to thank all those, who keep this great community running and the many individuals who work in their spare time to improve aircrafts, create or improve sceneries, write tutorials, review airplanes ..., etc. etc. etc. I really appreciate that a good atmoshpere prevails here (ok, most of the time  ) and I enjoy the wealth of information avsim provides me with. I live in Bavaria, the southern part of Germany (between EDDM and LOWI). For those who do not know, Bavaria is a beautiful federal state in the southern part of Germany. Once in a while a part of the inhabitants hold meetings called Bierfeste. There we are used to drink beer out of strange, big glasses named “Masskrüge”. If you have ever been at the Octoberfest in Munich, you know what I mean. Of course, beer drinking is not the only thing we do here  . Bavaria is one of the most successful federal states in the world and the home of many high tech companies. I think, I'm not the only one here at avsim, who started his sim career with a Commodore C64 and Bruce Artwicks “subLOGIC Flight Simulator”. The C64 then drew me into the magic realm of computer simulation. With pauses between, like a boomerang, flightsimulation came always back to me. ..you can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave..." the eagles Kind regards to all Tom
