  1. Hello aviators, my name is Matthew Smith and I am the vice CEO of our new project, FSAware. We will be launching our website at the end of this year and will be using smartcars 2. We are basically a club where you can fly IFR or VFR. You can choose any airline and any route, so no more deciding on which VA to fly for. Hours will be logged and added up for all flights you do. We fly a wide range of aircraft and nearly every airline. You can fly anywhere at any time. If you have any questions or route suggestions or any suggestions for the club, either email me at flightsimulationclub@gmail.com or come visit our teamspeak, 2799820.ts3.mpgs.co or reply to this post and we will get back to you ASAP. We'd love to hear your thoughts! Kind regards, Matthew Smith, Vice CEO
  2. Hi, Recently I discovered that when the temperature is below 10 degress, GSX tells you to start engines after the pushback is completed due to icing contiditons. So my question is, do they not start engines until after pushback if icing conditions are present in real life? And if so, why is that? I don't understand how it can make any difference if you start the engines during pushback, or after the pushback. Thanks in advance
  3. The audible cockpit alarms (terrain, 500, etc.) in the Carenado SR 22 are way to loud. Anyone know how to turn them down? Thanks.
  4. Hello everyone! My name is Erik and I have recently broadened my horizons when it comes to the world of flight simming. I started a little over a year ago with the F-16 in Falcon BMS and slowly branched out to other military aircraft and platforms such as the a-10c black shark and p-51 within DCS. I am most comfortable in the F-16 though I began looking into new options in x-plane 10. First with the default aircraft, and then I caught an interest for bigger jets. What interested me the most was the complex systems simulation and the challenge of learning the ins and outs of these aircraft. So, I picked up the B752 from Flight Factor, as it seemed a decent starting point to learn as the aircraft model was not ancient or brand new. And as I thought the learning was interesting and engaging, but it left me yearning for more. While I feel that the simulation of the B752 is excellent I found the immersion lacking by the time I reached a point of familiarity and proficiency with the jet. Something that started to bug me was the sound design, which just did not feel right when compared to High def in cockpit videos of the B752 on Youtube. So once again I started my research into the world of flight simming, and I came out with a desire to try the PMDG 737 ngx. This aircraft seems universally lauded for its high degree of simulation across the board. The sound design also got me interested as it seems much closer to what the actual flight deck sounds like in all stages of flight. For me sound is a big part of immersion, and it seems that PMDG have nailed that aspect. So now it seems I must get into FSX. Uh oh, there does not seem to be digital distribution for FSX.... Not that big of a deal. Wait whats all this? FSUIPC, EZDOK cameras, Active Sky Next, REX, ORBX...etc. The list of software to bring this dated sim up to date seems staggering as well as expensive. Unlike x plane it seems like there is a lot of work to be done. But, also unlike x plane it seems that with the care provided by the community FSX while being an old sim is still the way to go when it comes to getting the most immersive and accurate simulation. So here I am getting started, lots to read... should be fun =D
  5. Hello I'm new to AVSIM. I've been flight simming since the early 90's and though I've messed around with MSFS since 4.0 and X-Plane since 5, I mostly focused on military sims. However I recnetly discovered FSEconomy (my new addiction). I've dove (doved? dived? I'm sorry...I'm an Okie) head first into civilian flight and dipped my toe into the expensive world of addons with the Aerosoft Twin Otter and Lionhearts Quest Kodiak. Glad to be here and nice to meet you all.
  6. Hi everyone, Haven't touched a flight sim. since FS2004. Not sure why, other pursuits etc. Looked at FSX a few years back in 2009'ish but a colleague at the time with MS didn't think it had long to live and again I found other things to interest me. Anyway, it was through a new job with the military that I found out that LH had bought the code and was amazed when they released Prepar3d to the general public, albeit with their odd EULA and that if you at any point find it entertaining, you must immediately stop using it and remove it from your system. I myself am a mature student studying geology in my spare time and so legally I guess I'm fine. I digress. What I was hoping to find was a list of what 'the well informed' believe are the essential add-ons/utilities. I know people will have different views etc., but without it you can blow a budget in minutes. From reading, this is what I've gathered. FSCommander VOXATC REX 4 FTX Global FTX Vector? FTX Region England (tis where I live) FTX Region Australia (tis where I like to holiday) Does this make sense? Do they work together? Rig is (or will be when Apple get off their ***** *****), dual boot (Win7) Mac Pro, 8-core, 32GB ram, GTX780s ... Jonjo69
  7. Good morning everyone! I'm Luca and i'm from Italy! I always wanted to be a member of a forum about simulation and...now i'm there! i'm having some troubles with wilco's airbus so i think that in this forum there will be someone that can help me. See you later Luca
  8. Hey! Just joined the forum. I have lloved aviation since a kid. I flew as a right-seater on OV-1D Mohawks and RC-12's. Then started jumping out of them and liked that also. I am retired now and want to build my own flight sim. I am going to purchase mostly Saitek equipment and use Xplanes for the software. I was going to use 3 27" monitors and enclose the cockpit. Right now I am struggling with the computer I will purchase. I have made a spreadsheet and figurred this will cost between 2000-3500 for everything. I am sure I will be asking a lot of questions! BTW: I have no aviation certifications but have about 300 hours flyiing 172's and stick time I got on the Mohawk with trainers. One question I do have: (I know there are debates on it) FS X or X-Plane? Also, is there any recommendations other than using Track IR for realism?
  9. Hey guys, Sorry to bother you, since I don't really have a question. [To Admin: My apologies in case this thread should be posted in another section.] I just wanted to thank the guys that run this website and the amazing community for all of your tremendous efforts! I've enjoyed FSX for a while now on a quite underpowered notebook, but am planning to get a decent rig and some complex and good-looking addons. Prior to reading through the Avsim forums I only had little knowledge of both hardware and software. Thanks to you guys I do know now, which hardware to get, how to set it up in order for FSX to (hopefully) run smoothly, how to tweak FSX (and not over-do with it), which addons to (not) get and where to look for further tutorials, troubleshooting documentation and so on. I am truly amazed that so many of you guys spend your leisure time writing all kinds of guides, creating tutorials, even programming new software tools, sharing additional content and giving free advice to not-so experienced sim pilots. Without you passing your knowledge and work I'd probably be very much lost in the world of FSX's quirks, spend too much money on a non-optimal PC and be frustrated after purchasing the wrong addons or not-knowing how to use the right ones. Huge thanks to all of you, who help keeping FSX more alive than ever! I appreciate it very much! I also just made my first ever online donation. It went to Avsim, of course. Cheers, Dom
  10. Hi Everyone, Just a quick note saying hello! Recently getting back into flight sims after a very long break, was heavily into FSX back then but now trying out X Plane after upgrading my rig. Definitely seems to run better maxed out with all the addons/eye candy but also a steeper learning curve to getting it looking good!
  11. New guy here, and looking forward to learning and contributing to the AVSIM community. I have had FSX for several years but it was running on an old system. Recently built myself a new system with decent specs, good video card running a 4 monitor setup. I was using one monitor for the instrument cluster, and three for the main view. Just recieved my TrackIR and in the process of setting it up. It really is amazing how much more it adds to the whole experience. Now my question, and I know it will be subjective but is there an advantage to running a single larger monitor with the TrackIR as opposed to a three monitor setup? Thanks in advance! George
  12. Hey guys. New to the forum, been here quite a bit but I would like to say hi! Pretty nice community from what I've seen, so I can now ask questions on problems.. etc... On the other hand, I have a Discord.gg server for flight simulation and VATSIM! You can join it here: https://discord.gg/yNP2pC4 Anyway, hope I have a good time. THanks
  13. Hi, As we are getting into the colder part of the year, I thought I'd ask a question about deicing. So, in real life, when you are at an airport which requires you to perform on-stand deicing, should you tell ATC that you will be performing the on-stand deicing within the next couple of minutes, or would you just do it at your own discretion?
  14. Hello, Thanks for having such a great site such as this where the community really helps me enjoy the hobby of flightsim. SA
  15. Hi all, I did already post a question which was answered, however, when I join forums I really feel the need to say hello and introduce myself to members and not just "JUMP IN". So my name is Chris Johnson, I have FSX and X-Plane 10 (which I think I will leave for a year or so!!!). I am new to "REAL" flight sims and I am just having a great time. I live in the UK quite close to the Birmingham area (DO NOT call me a brummie), my day job is a Critical Systems Administrator for a multi-national company and am 49.6 years old. I also play guitar and am in a recording band which is kinda cool. So, that's basically it! Glad to be part of the forum and looking forward to chatting with a few of you. Now I am off to the paint forum to try and figure this out.
  16. Hello everyone, I just joined AVSIM after being away for at least 17yrs. I was an avid panel and scenery designer in the 90's and the deaths of my father and then my brother had changed my life priorities that pushed me into another direction. I am excited to get back into Flight Sim's and I have no idea what is out there or what new sims are on the horizon so any help or suggestions will be appreciated. I know I have a lot of reading to do but please if you have any suggestions feel free to post them. What are the current sims available? How do they differ. How are the graphics, are they better than what was normal in the 1990's? Thanks again for all that reply.... Nick "Nicksort"
  17. Hello, I'm new to the forums and just thought I'd post a quick greeting before pestering people for information. I've done some flying a couple of decades ago but just haven't had the time since. My goal is to build a system that will help me reduce the amount of dual air time (and more importantly the cost of the time) while working on my PPL. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but don't want to cheap out the cost of making the learning experience detrimental. The system in the end will be a home theatre first and a flight simulator second. Not that I want to compromise that much on the flight simulator. More that it gives an idea of the configuration restraints I'll be working with. If anyone has leads on previous topics of this nature or their own personal input then I'd love to hear from your experiences. I look forward to participating in the community. ( Even though I'm sure I'll be taking a lot more than I contribure for a while to come.) Ray
  18. Right now i am using a Logitech 3DPRO { i Know } would any of you folks care to suggest an upgrade that would do the job better and not break the bank, yet be functional for a long period of time. Hope this is not too much to ask...lol Also thanks again for all the support you folks gave me in my last post, It's nice to know you have some support out there.AVSIM is a great community...
  19. We also want to see your GA screen shots and recommendations of where to fly from your experiences. https://www.facebook...roups/VATSIMGA/
  20. Does anyone here know waht happened to Boris' page? I've tried to get to in on a number of times but all I get is a white screen. But it tells me his page is there.
  21. I'm wondering how you are meant to know which NADP that should be used for departure. I know that it usually says on the charts, but at an airport such as EKCH it only says: Noise Abatement Procedure No turns allowed Before: etc.... So should I assume NADP 2 should be used since that seems to be the normal one at which you accelerate and derate at the same time?
  22. At an airport such as LGSM (Samos) there is a VOR and NDB approach heading straight towards the runway, which means that the last part is flown manually, so that you align with the runway. So, I'd assume ATC clears you for the VOR (or NDB) approach, but since they've cleared you for a VOR approach, are you still allowed to start flying the visual bit of the approach, or do you need to recive another clearance stating that you are cleared to start flying visually?
  23. I first flew on the Apple II SubLogic flight sim many, many years ago, and eventually graduated to Sierra's ProPilot. Since then I've been away from the hobby, so I have no idea what's going on these days. I just picked up FSX-Steam Edition, and started playing with it while I wait for my first HOTAS joystick to be delivered. I'm having fun flying around with the ultralight model with mouse and keyboard (what a pain!). What I'd like some advice on is which sim software is best for what I'm interested in, and which aircraft should I be flying. I'm interested in single engine prop with minimal instrumentation. I'd rather learn how to hold my altitude than to learn how to push an altitude hold button on an autopilot. I'm interested in enjoying the scenery and visiting new places. I'm not interested in keeping schedules and timetables. I aspire to be a casual flyer, with a simple aircraft, flying low and slow, and following highways, rivers and coastlines. Scenic eye candy is a priority for me. Any suggestions on which sim and what aircraft I should try out? What add-ons are good for eye-candy fans? (My home town is KEUG so a nice looking home airport would be a plus too.) Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  24. Hello simmers, greetings from Australia! I just landed here at AVSIM. I enjoy all sorts of flying, except gliders. I would like to get better at repainting. I mainly fly around Australia on Australian based airlines. Thats all for now!
  25. Hi Guys. At last that 5 days wait seemed like years. I am new and very enthusiastic about flight simulation. I have had a good look around the forum and some great advice here. I bought 5 programmes last week and have questions which I hope you can help with. Will post in the appropriate forums, most of which could be due to user pilot error. Looking forward to meeting you and your advice guys. Regards (Fullthrottle) Mike.
