  2. Hey guys, Lately I've been flying a bit in Japan. Fortunately, there's good freeware landclass and vector information for japanese lands, so this isn't exactly my problem. My problem is... I'm struggling to find good airport sceneries for Japan. This is kinda sad. I have these two excellent sceneries from Pacific Island Sim (Chubu Centrair and Nagasaki), but that's all. I've found some stuff by Wing Creation, but their rendition of Narita is just too expensive... Moreover, I simply cannot find good airport sceneries for Hokkaido area, which interests me a lot. :( Is Japan really lacking good airports? Does anyone has any good tips in this subject? Should I just sit and cry? Best regards,
  3. I'm looking for a 777-300ER repaint in the old JAL cigarette livery. I've searched the community livery thread and the library here and couldn't find one. I did find one for the 77L though. Does anybody have one or know where I could download one from? Thanks!
  4. I just published my review of Kansai International Airport (RJBB) by Technobrain. https://twinfinite.net/2022/03/microsoft-flight-simulator-kansai-airport-review-rjbb/ The TLDR is that it's a very good airport, but a few corners were cut, possibly because it's the first airport of this size by TB on MSFS, so it stops a bit shorter than top-notch. That being said, it comes with plenty of positives and it's most definitely the best rendition of Kansai for MSFS (by a large margin). On the very positive side, Technobrain abandoned its previously rather crazy pricing schemes, which is very welcome. In case you want to make your own opinion, there's plenty of video content inside showing every corner of the airport.
  5. Just had some moments of bliss as I climbed out from Amami Ōshima and the first rays of sunlight hit the cockpit. And as I headed south towards Okinawa, I was again struck by how beautiful this sim can look. Not completely related, but apparently the concept of ikigai is held to be the reason why Okinawa boasts the longest living people on earth. The ikigai principles comprise “an intersection between 4 distinct elements: what you’re passionate about, where your skills lie, how you can earn a living and what the world needs”. Not a bad code to live by.
  6. I'm looking for a JAL Cigarette livery repaint for the 777-300ER. I've searched the community livery thread and the file library here at AVSIM and didn't find one. I did see one for the 77L though. Anybody have one or know where I could download one? Thanks!
  7. Flight Details Callsign: AFR291 Departure Aerodrome: Kansai International (RJBB/KIX) Departure Time: 0335z Arrival Aerodrome: Paris Charles de Gaulle (LFPG/CDG) Arrival Time: 1600z Flight Time: 12h 20m Aircraft: Boeing 777-200ER / F-GSSU ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So we arrived at Kansai International Airport about 2 hours after the aircraft had landed, received our flight documents and headed out the aircraft. The aircraft was expected to spend around 3hours on the ground after arrival so it was left in a cold and dark state. Sitting on Stand F35 at Terminal 1 we started to bring her to life. Whilst the Captain was preparing the Flight Deck I did the walk around since I was Pilot Flying for this sector, I deemed the aircraft fit to fly and headed back into the aircraft. We departed Kansai about 13minutes late and were slowly starting to go through our step climbs. We expecting some moderate headwinds over Russia until we reached Scandinavia. During our cruise over Western Russia we were expecting to arrive with a little bit more fuel than expected due to the winds not living up to our expectations, we contacted ATC via CPDLC and asked if we could dump some fuel. Taken very short final into Paris's RWY26L, winds were 329 @ 13kts at this point. On blocks in Paris after the long but pleasant flight. Passengers in the terminal graphing our aircraft as see prepares for her next voyage to another part of the world. Hope you liked. Shaun

  10. As of today, the UHD Mesh Scenery v1 series has a new region: Japan The main differences (and improvements, compared to HD Mesh Scenery) are: High resolution DEM elevation data. Based on the AW3D (© JAXA) 30m data, and where AW3D has holes, filled up with SRTM 1sec (30m) data. Latest landclass data based on the "AVNIR-2 high-resolution land use land cover map 2016 February release (version 16.02)" (© JAXA) Massively increased mesh density ... by roughly factor 2.5 to 3! This is not only beneficiary to the better representation of the higher res DEM data, but also - once more - improves landclass and forest detail! Because of this, the "UHD Mesh Scenery v1" Scenery is very heavy on hardware resources and will only run smoothly on modern, higher end PCs. Its very important - before even considering a download - to have at least 16 GBytes of RAM and a modern / powerful GPU! Detailed infos and download links are here: http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-uhd-mesh-scenery-v1/ There is also a "release video" on youtube, to give you a impression about what to expect: If you are - only - looking for comparison screenshots, here are the official ones accompanying the release of UHD Mesh Scenery v1 - Japan. Just follow the link to my Google Photos album: UHD Mesh Scenery v1 - Japan (most screenshots in the first part of the album come in pairs - they are comparisons between UHD and HD quality! The first of each pair is HD, the second UHD - but there are also caption for each picture to make this clear)
  11. Press Release: Japan Airlines Virtual turns 10! 4/1/2017 WATCH OUR VIDEO On this day 10 years ago in 2007 a new Virtual Airline was born and its name was Japan Airlines Virtual. JAL Virtual was started by an avid 13-year-old aviation enthusiast, we started on a free host under the domain jalvirtual.x10hosting.com, our website was very basic and we had no PIREP system whatsoever, we were using a web form to submit ours pireps. A small VA starting in an area with many established and well respected airlines at the time, at the start it was rough, inexperience and lack of skills plagued us for the first 6 months, however after that we steadied ourselves and became a more professional organization with the registering of our domain name jalvirtual.org/jalvirtual.com. After two years, it was time for the first big upgrade of JAL Virtual. We were one of the first adapters of the then new and revolutionary PHPVMS pireps system, a system that we use to this very day. For our airline, this system is our backbone and a key pillar to our success, due to the nature of this software we were greatly able to offer many different features and expand our scope of activities. During this period, we experimented with many different things such as training programs, greater cooperation with online flight simulator network’s and virtual airline alliances. Some of them were great successes and some of them failed but from experimenting and trying, we learned a lot. A great influx of new pilots joined our ranks, an amazing sense of community was established between our members, teamspeak voice chats/flights were very common, new friends were made and connections established. By this time, we were experiencing double digit flights per day and over 1,000 flights a month. Also, updated our image and brought back the circle crane logo, just like our real-life counterpart. Now to the present, we have made it to 10 years, today, we are now 10 years old, its breath taking to see our amazing story unfold and evolve over that span of time, it brings great joy, pride and strength to every member of JAL Virtual. Everything, that we have done with our members, other VA’s, online networks and the flight simulator community in general, matters. Everything that we have built up as an organization over the last 10 years has now blossomed like a Sakura tree. It’s all worth it in the end. Fly into tomorrow virtually! – We can look back into our past, look upon proudly. Our future, is more important, we are at a milestone year, and milestone years deserve, special attention. Our third evolution is coming over the next few months, that is an entirely new system, new website. Also throughout the coming months we will be having 10 events for our members and the community. Please see the previous post for that. We are now 10 years old, what will the next 10 years bring JAL Virtual? We can only watch and see. But for now, we celebrate this milestone and look into the future. For the Love of Aviation. Touy Smith Founder and CEO of Japan Airlines Virtual. http://Jalvirtual.com admin@jalvirtual.com
