  1. The Learjet (v2.8), as good as the model is, is an absolute VAS hog, so here are some tips for improving VAS conservation. 1. Use smaller textures. I've included some in my mod package. This is the best way to save some memory since MSFS creates a clone of the material (including textures) for every animation in a model. And the Learjet has a lot of animations. 2. Disable "High Resolution Virtual Cockpit" in FSX' options. This oddly enough yields about 200 MB of additional free VAS. 3. Lower autogen from "Extremely Dense" to "Very Dense". The extreme setting tends to bleed available VAS dry (not just with the Learjet, mind you), even despite running less varied autogen with lower res textures. 4. Disable flood lights. Yeah, you read that right. Despite Flysimware's optimization efforts, the flood light gauges still contain multiple dimmer stages which increase VAS use. Since these don't make all that much difference at night (console and instrument lights are much more important), it's best to simply disable them by commenting them out with "//" in the panel.cfg. Look for the lines containing "FLYSIMWARE_DIMMER!RADIOS_FLOOD" and "FLYSIMWARE_DIMMER!PANEL_1_FLOOD". While you're at it, also disable the completely unnecessary map light ("FLYSIMWARE_DIMMER!INTERIOR_MAP"). Nota bene: The next release of the mods will contain revised gauges for the lighting which will eliminate all traces of the dimmers. Other than that, the usual VAS saving tips apply, i.e. stay away from everything with high resolution textures (scenery, clouds, AI aircraft) or detailed mesh, save often and early, use FSUIPC to monitor available VAS, use DirectX 10 mode in FSX, etc, etc... With all VAS tweaks (except "high res VC" since it affects aircraft using 2D gauges), I took the Learjet on a tour de force along the East Coast in the afternoon all partied up (all lights on) with real weather (quite foul at the moment). Starting north of Boston at 11000 ft, I went south to the tip of Long Island and headed straight to New York City (which is Flight Simulator hell due to AI aircraft and custom scenery objects). Zooming across the city and EWR at 2000 ft, I climbed to FL220 and turned toward Philadelphia and onward to Washington, where I circled at low level (~3000 ft) before landing at IAD. I never dipped below 600 MB of available VAS during the two hours it took to fly the route. I won't dare to say that there are no VAS issues anymore, but it was a definitely positive experience with the aircraft.
  2. Hello All-the engines' sound is very loud inside the Learjet virtual cockpit, or it could be some other sound which emulates the engines. In P3Dv2 I turn down all of the settings sound control to zero, but the loud engine noise persists in the Lear. The sound is not present when I change to exterior views, only in the virtual cockpit. This is the only aircraft with this problem. Anyone else had this issue? Perhaps I should uninstall and reinstall. Any advice? Thanks.
  3. Hey guys, I have been a long time viewer but have never posted much on the forums. However, I recently finished something that I thought I would share. Using a 3d printer, I designed these saitek replacement knobs that I custom modeled. I was inspired by the learjet 45's simplicity and style of knob, and I thought that would be a great place to start. Over about a month i managed to finish them and get the hang of using a 3d printer. The reverse levers rotate, but do not function in the flight sim for obvious technical reasons. Now that I have a replacement solution for my own flight sim, I have a few questions for the community: What do you think? Would you be interested in this as a product? Should I consider selling additional kits? Where would I post such a thread? Is there anything in the design that should be changed? It is just a thought for the moment, but I am interested in what you guys have to say to a potential ... say $50 vanity item.
  4. I took the recently released Xtreme Prototypes Learjet 25 v3.0 on a 1200 nm flight from Tivat Airport in Montenegro to Ambrolauri Airport in Georgia. My route: I've always wanted to visit Georgia, the very picturesque setting of the many towns and villages between the mountains is particularly appealing, as is the food I've heard so much about. On the descent after having passed waypoint TAGAR. The peaks of Alaniya National Park in the background. Ambrolauri Airport (UGAM) in sight, tucked away in a valley right next to the Rioni River. Great weather for a visual approach to RWY 29, the final descent could be tricky though due to the surrounding terrain. The unmistakable shape of the stunning Learjet 25D. The approach into Ambrolauri Airport is going to be pure eye candy. Turning to the north to head into the valley. The terrain feature of the GTN 750 is definitely helpful here. Turning back to the west now to head down the valley on final approach. The airport is now at my 1 o'clock just beyond the ridge ahead. Runway in sight, final landing checks complete. Cleared to land, what a great approach to fly! Almost lined up now, speed checked. The Rioni River borders the eastern edge of the airport. Moments from touchdown now, there is a very slight crosswind. And touchdown, welcome to Ambrolauri Airport! The airport terminal with its unique and unmistakable design. PBR splendor! Thank you David Hilker, you have created a real gem with this unique airport! I can highly recommend this stunning freeware airport that is now available for P3Dv5!

  6. Hello Captains, I wonder what is the correct procedure to deploy Reversers + Soilers in this bird. What i do: 1- Arm the Reversers - Green ligt on the pannel. 2- Press my joystick Autospoilers Arm Button 3- Perform a kiss landing(Well, very often  ) 4- I dont see reversers deloy, and sometimes i dont see the spoilers comming up. Im testing it during several flights..... im not sure what im doing wrong, may be this bird has autospoilers linked to the reversers? So im messing the AP by pressing the Spoilers arm command.... Thanks in advance.. a Pic for you:
  7. I tried the LJ24 on a friends computer, enjoyed it thoroughly, and bought it for myself. Unfortunately, I seem to be having a couple issues with it. For one thing, the 2d panel elements (Though not the background bitmap) are very "fuzzy." They're readable, but they don't look smooth, and I can't figure out why. The gauges in the VC look fine, and according to my panel.cfg are the same ones as in the 2d panel. Another issue is with the clickspots. In the 2d panel, they only partially work, and the mouse often doesn't change to a hand, making it hard to find the spots. In both the 2d and the 3d, the clicking for many of the switches, like the ones where you have to click and hold, does not work correctly. When I click and drag the start/gen switches for instance, I get a repeated clicking sound and the switch doesn't seem to want to stay when I hold the mouse button. Lastly, even though I follow the tutorial and do not use another cold and dark file, I cannot seem to start the engines. Whether I shut down the aircraft manually to cold and dark or use a save file from the website, the starter switches don't seem to have any effect (possibly because of the clickspot issue though). The engines do start with another set of switches in the same area, though I can't recall which ones. I'm sure I've done something wrong here, as no one else seems to have this problem. Any ideas so I can enjoy this amazing addon? Thanks! By the way, I don't have any real life LJ24 autopilot experience, but on similar older autopilots I've seen and used, the large knob isn't a rudder trim knob, but a "turn control" knob, which sends left/right turn commands to the autopilot, rather than trimming the rudder. Along with that, I believe the altitude hold button is supposed to hold the current altitude, with the altitude setting on the main panel being an "altitude alerter" that makes a sound as you approach the setting so you can level off and engage the hold. Then again, so many things are different with the Lear that it might be how it is.
  8. Just purchased the Flysimware Learjet 35A, Version 1.8, from FSPilotShop (exactly one day before their sale!!!), and am initially impressed with the quality of the graphics, cockpit sounds, clicks, bells and whistles. However, I am unable to start the blasted thing! Following the checklist for a cold and dark start is a no-op - while everything clicks on, the start sequence is non-operational. Even doing a CTRL+E start fails - the turbine spools up to 18.1 on the left engine only, and then shuts off to slowly return to zero. It does not even try to start the right engine. I am running P3D V3, which is a supported platform. Any ideas? I checked the Flysimware site and there are no references to starting problems.
  9. Hello FSW Avsimmers! Just finished my first repaint for the LJ35A and thought others might enjoy flying it. This aircraft is operated by Kalitta Charters, and I think it looks quite sharp with the black tail! Just uploaded it to the Library. Happy Flying!
  10. The latest version of the Xtreme Prototypes Learjet has finally been released! Just a quick test flight into the very scenic Santiago de Compostela Airport by PILOT'S. Apparently this airport is know for foggy mornings and bad weather, so too this approach was full IFR. The early morning sunrise casts a strong orange hue all over the foggy landscape. Runway 35 approach with the airport clearly in sight, the silhouette of the Learjet is just stunning! Cleared to land, perfectly aligned on the ILS! It's not every day that the early morning sunlight creates such an interesting light mix with the rising sun. The dynamic lighting and PBR effects on the Learjet are exquisite and second-to-none! Moments away now from touchdown! The new Xtreme Prototypes Learjet is absolutely awesome, the full Garmin GTN integration makes this aircraft superbly capable of custom high altitude flight plans.
