Thinking about an i5-7600K or i7-7700K build on Z270 M/B dedicated to flightsims: DCS X-Plane v10 / v11 P3D v3 / v4 VR in the future Q1) Based on browsing users system specs on several flightsim forums am I right in thinking the current Kaby Lake "sweetspot" for RAM is: 16MB DDR4-3200??? Q2) Is anyone really going to need more than 16GB for current flightsims (anyone running the above sims with 8GB and no OOMs)? Q3) Would VR need more system RAM?

Hi guys! Finally I am going to buy my first real gaming PC. It will be used for P3D but also for classic gaming replacing my Xbox. I think an i5 would be a good compromise between price and performance. So what do you think about thid build? - Intel i5 8600K 3.6Ghz Coffee Lake 1151 Processor -Msi Z370 A-PRO 1151 Motherboard -Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB. I found a good price on the ASUS Strix and on the MSI Armor. What's the better choice? -16GB DDR4 G.Skill 3200MHz Ram. -Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD -Noctua NH-U9S Cpu cooler -Corsair rm650i 80 Plus Gold PSU -NZXT H440 Case About the monitor I was not sure if buy a 1080p 144hz one or a 1440p 60hz one. I'm planning to put together a new PC using some of the parts from my ageing Q9650 build. I'd like to try out all the current main sim software - X-Plane, FSX, Flightgear, DCS World and possibly Prepar3d too, flying things like iFly737 in FSX and FF757 / FF777 in X-Plane. I've also been collecting old PCs to use as slave machines in multi-display setup, and this new PC would be providing the main graphics in that setup. Below is a preliminary list of parts. I'm not in a rush to build this thing - maybe a New Year's present for myself: Blue things are from my current system. Green things I've already bought new. ? your suggestions welcome! CPU = i7-4790K (OC to 4.6GHz) Cooler = Air ? Thermal paste = MX-4 GPU = GTX780Ti 3GB MB = Z97 Asus ? RAM = 8GB DDR3-2400 kit ? or 16GB DDR3-2400 kit ? HD1 = Samsung 1TB (32MB) SATA2 HD2 = Samsung 1TB (32MB) SATA2 HD3 = Western Digital 320MB (32MB) SATA2 or Samsung 500MB (16MB) SATA2 PSU = Corsair TX850 850W or Seasonic S12G-750 750W Case = Coolermaster CM690 I'll update the parts list as I make decisions.
