  1. We have introduced a new feature today that allows you to embed Google Docs (Doc, Spread Sheets, Presentations) into your AVSIM forum postings. Here is an example using the AVSIM Terms of Service. See below for more detail on how to use this feature. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qk5SbmiSOVAsGjDlP3z8OxSZxnBa4SvFHh6tBmGS28A/pub To accomplish, publish your document so that it is public and then copy and paste the URL to that document, spreadsheet or presentation here. The URL used for the above TOS example looks like this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qk5SbmiSOVAsGjDlP3z8OxSZxnBa4SvFHh6tBmGS28A/pub That's all there is to it! Enjoy!
  2. Hi all For those of you that use the excellent freeware scenery list for FS9, they've now opened a section that takes you to paywear sceneries as well: http://www.flightsim-scenery.com/fs2004.html What we've probably got here is a list of just about everything available for FS9. I believe that makes Robert-Jan Oosterloo a true FS hero. Thanks Robert :-)
  3. We are very happy to announce that we have brought a new Video Gallery online. This Gallery replaces the one that we had to take down earlier this year. It adds new features and a greater ease of use, and most importantly, reliability and low loads on our server. All registered members can add video links to the Gallery. Videos (MP3's) can be added from your own storage system (Drop Box, etc.), or you can link to all of the popular video hosting sites, such as YouTube, Vimeo, Google, etc. Here is a complete list: The far left column regards thumbnails and indicates whether the system will automatically generate a thumbnail image or not. If no, you need to provide a thumbnail link for your video link submission. We hope you enjoy this new system and all that it brings back to the community. If you would like to suggest other categories, please do so in this topic. This post has been promoted to an article

  5. We have introduced another new feature today entitled "@mentions". Example, if a user types into a topic the "at mentions"; @@Tom_Test, that will cause a notification to be placed in tom_test's notifications box, if he / she has configured @mentions to allow that. That way, upon signing in, a user has immediate access to those posts where he/she has been mentioned. You will now see a new function in the information to the left of every post; the @Mention link. By clicking on that link it automatically opens up a new message with @mention to the poster inserted for you.
  6. We have added a new feature that everyone should find useful. It is the "I Am Away" notice. Once enabled it will put a message where everyone can see that you are away and with a small explanation, if you chose to enter one. You can access it via your User Control Panel / Settings:
  7. We recently announced that we were bringing a live streaming video aggregation system online. We are pleased to say that it is now up and running. Currently, the system only accepts videos from Twitch.tv, but API's are being added to accept videos from Justin.tv and others in the near future. In its current state, it is pretty straight forward system and easy to use by both viewers and video stream owners. The benefit of the AVSIM Video System is that it provides a focused source for all video streams having to do with flight simulation and the many related subjects within the hobby. We currently have one live stream FS topic running and some demo videos to view. If you are a live streaming owner and a flight simulation enthusiast, we encourage you to place your stream into the AVSIM System. If you are a virtual airline, an IVAO or VATSIM organization and would like to showcase news and events, this is a great way to do so to the many members of the AVSIM Community. Would like to broadcast training video, "how to", specialty broadcasts like the different types of navigation and techniques, flying techniques, etc., we encourage you to explore the live streaming video format and the AVSIM live streaming system. You can access the Live Video System from the menu item above, or by clicking here. The Streaming Video System also has a forum associated with it where every video is supported by it's own forum topic for users to discuss the stream and its content. You can access that forum here. 9. Not really a new feature, but one that has somewhat sank into history a bit, is the AVSIM registry of nation flags and your ability to use them in your signature. Here are the easy steps to including your country's flag in your signature. First, go to the CIA World Fact Book: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ In the drop down list at the top right of the page, select your country. Let's use Algeria as an example. Once your country's page has loaded, look at the URL in the browser address bar. For our example of Algeria, here is what you would see: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ag.html Note the two letter "ag.hmtl" country list. In this case, AG equal Algeria using the United Nation's approved country abbreviations. Okay, so then, using the following URL, click on the IMAGE ICON in your signature editor, and input the code for YOUR country in this form: http://forum.avsim.net/public/style_images/flags/ag.png This would result in this flag showing in your signature: Remember to substitute AG with your country's two letter code and keep the ".png" after it. Mine is: http://forum.avsim.net/public/style_images/flags/us.png Which results in this:
  10. Today we have introduced a new BBCode feature. This is the FLOAT IMAGE code. If you would like to float an image to the right, like this: http://forum.avsim.net/uploads/cc4f48dacfe741379bf09d1de7d52dfc.jpg style="margin: 7px 7px 6px 6px"> You would use the following code for the right placement of the image: [float='right']http://link to your image.jpg[/float] For a left floated image, you would do the same but with 'left': [float='left']http://link to your image.jpg[/float] Which would yield this: http://forum.avsim.net/uploads/cc4f48dacfe741379bf09d1de7d52dfc.jpg style="margin: 7px 7px 6px 6px"> And that is all there is to it. Simple, heh?
  11. We have introduced a new feature for everyone's use. It is the new MY CONTENT function that you can locate adjacent to the VIEW NEW CONTENT link at the top right of the page. Clicking MY CONTENT will display topics in which you have posted, newest to oldest.
  12. Again today we have introduced a small feature that I think most people will find useful. Now instead of hunting and pecking around, and having to print off a whole topic, now you can print a single message, without all the images and other material from the browser window. Look for the printer icon in the top right frame of the message:
