  1. A few days ago I upgraded from AMD 6850 to an Nvidida GTX 950. And while it has improved smoothness and FPS in other payware aircraft, my 777 only gets 7-10 FPS in the cockpit. I've been recently trying to decide if I want to purchase the NGX, but was curious if any of you could help me figure out why my system doesn't seem to run the 777 well and if I can get it well optimized to run both the 777 and 737. i7 2600K @ 3.40 GHz (Sandy Bridge) 8 GB RAM (DDR3) Nvidia GEForce GTX 950 As far as the fsx.cfg, I've reset and then added the HighMemFix=1 TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120 Bufferpools/PoolSize=0 and I've also added the Nvidia Inspector profile. Thanks for the help, Nick Stoker
  2. in the yoke of of saitek I noticed that three keys that move right left / top down They have a guide or you can / need to define what will be using them? It's possible to put elevator TRIM? And flaps? And one of them will control the rudder? It could be that I get it Can possibly (if you can not define offsets In The Yoke) fly without elevator trim? That it will not be comfortable keyboard every second click, same thing with flaps and rudder, How do I set you in the yoke of? Or should I buy the elevator trim separate pedals and Table AP? Thanks for helpers
  3. Folks, a quick (few) question(s) here: I know that the safedocks at UK2000 Heathrow do not show "777", because of the viewpoint, or something, which is a bit of a pain when you mostly fly the PMDG 777, so: -If I were to buy GSX, Would the UK2000 safedocks be replaced with those of GSX, and show "777" -If not, is there any edit I can do without changing the view within the 777, to make "777" show up? -is there anyway of making the UK2000 safedock systems brighter, so I can see them from further out? Thanks folks, -Andy Green
  4. Hey guys, quick question, sorry if it's been asked before did a quick search and didn't come up with anything. Anyways, I've been using my Saitek Pro Flight Yoke velcro'd (sp?) to my desk now for about 3 years but am switching desks and need to use the clamp. Unfortunately I've misplaced the clamp and can't seem to find it. Really don't want to use velcro again as it becomes weak after moving the yoke on and off and crap and dirt gets under it easily. Was just wondering if Saitek sold the yoke clamp/screw as an OEM item or if anyone else has improvised clamps for the yoke. I made a ticket at the Saitek website a few days back asking if they sold/would send me a new one and haven't heard anything. Weston
  5. I would like to update everyone regarding the system issues that appeared to crop up over this last weekend and the steps we have taken to remedy those issues to the extent that we have been able. First, let me put this rubric to bed; the system issues WERE NOT caused by the addition or modification to the forums software. Some people like to harp about us adding functions and having things "break" when we do. That is not the case and in fact, we have not added new functionality in quite some time. If anything, we are guilty of removing TOO many functions. We noticed issues started to crop up on the morning of June 27th; that's last Thursday, and it started just before 10:00 a.m. We noticed a barrage of hits from the Verizon system and they numbered thousands over a very short period. We have reported that activity to Verizon and have requested they let us know the result. We'll see if any of that happens. The next thing we noticed was that there was a hundred plus attempts to crack into our Admin Control System. The crack attempts came from an IP that showed the attempts were originating in the Netherlands. We took a step that we had postponing doing simply because of the effort necessary to accomplish it; we "hid" the control system. We have software that can sit in front of the forum software and repel DDOS attacks when we recognize them. We brought that online over the weekend as we continued to get hit. The downside to this action is that it has an impact on all users logging in from anywhere in the world. The major consequence is system slow down for everyone, but certainly faster than what was existing during the DDOS itself. We started looking at modules as well to determine the impact they have been having and the possibility that something broke. We did a complete removal of all but the most fundamentally important modules, and what you see today in the forums is the result. We may bring some of those back online once the system stabilizes. One of the other things we did is shut off access to all of the forum structure by GUESTS; that is, people who have not registered. We did that to lighten the load on the system as well and to give us an opportunity to measure the positive or negative aspects of that move. As of an hour ago, we have flipped the switch and have let guests back into the forums. However, over the next couple of days, we are going to be removing access by guests to certain forums to maintain a fair balance and sustained performance for our registered members. So, as I write this, where are we? We have re-installed TapaTalk for all of the 30 or so users that access our forums daily using it. If it proves to be problematic again, we will permanently remove it and never re-install it. We have removed various modules as indicated above and we will selectively bring back online some of those depending upon performance impact by them. We have a system now in place that looks for and prevents proxy server access, access from unidentified locations and so on. Performance today is very good. We are not seeing the slow downs that we have seen over the last couple of days, and we are keeping an eye on accesses and locations. Okay, so that is where we stand at the moment.
  6. Hi everyone, After being out of flight sim for a good few years, I am considering getting back into it by purchasing a pre-built desktop system for FSX, with the view of possibly upgrading to P3D. I intend to use the system just for flight simulation as I wouldn't really play anything else and I would also want to run add ons such as additional scenery, Active Sky and exceptionally detailed aircraft such as the 737 NGX. After looking at some of the other threads, i5 seems the way to go as FSX doesn't make use of the cores with the i7? Is this the same with P3D? Also, would I want to install FSX/P3D on a separate drive from the OS? Or does that make no difference in regards to speed? I have found this system from AWD IT: http://www.awd-it.co.uk/xen-arc-r2-intel-i5-4670k-4.0ghz-quad-core-nvidia-gaming-pc.html Does anyone else have any recommendations as to where I should look at buying one from? I have taken a look at PCSpecialist, Scan, Overclockers UK, Wired2Wire, ChillBlast, UKGaming Computers, CyberPower and Palicomp. However, its all quite overwhelming as to where I should really look at getting one from. Thank you in advance for your help
  7. I´m building a new system for work (stock exchange) and need a real fast processor for data analysis.... I also want to play FSX with PMDG and other add-ons. Processor i7 -4790k ou 6700k. (I need a i7 for my work, and it´s also good for fsx) Memory: 16gb DDR3L (2x8gb) (ddr4 is very expensive and hard to find yet in my country, I need 16gb) Monitor: I´m thinking about a LG 29" 2560 x 1080 FHD (Ultra Wide), as it would help a lot with my work and looks good in FSX. I´ll use a 850evo SSD as main drive and a 2gb HDD for data. Questions: 1) What would be the best processor ? 4790k ou 6700k ? I´m afraid of skylake bugs (like the prime95), but 4790k is getting old every day, and it also should run a little hotter. Would the K series add a lot in FSX ? or a 4790/6700 would be enough ?? What do you guys suggest ? 2) I won´t play games except FSX, so what GPU should I buy ? 750TI ? GTX 950 ? GTX960 ? GTX970 ? I don´t need it to be perfect, just looks good and good fps... But I probably will need to play it at 2560x1080, so.... what is the recommend card for this resolution in FSX/PMDG ? Thanks !!
  8. Last Wednesday, March 20th, AVSIM met with and engaged an experienced team of IT specialists to aid in growing AVSIM and to maintain its robustness and responsiveness to our community in the future. They bring to our team skill sets that are applicable to our entire range of our present and future architecture and systems. Together, we are creating a road map for our future growth and stability. We will be working on that in the coming weeks and months. We will be adding substantially to the road map as we optimize our current system and prepare it for future additional hardware and software tools. Some of the things will be doing in the future include: Immediate Action Items: Replace three existing hard drives in Forum Server. Add two additional hard drives and configure for full RAID configuration. Near Term Action Items: Remove and replace all File Library drives with 1 TB units. Add two additional 1 TB units. Review MySQL database and optimize. Review hardware; Switch, NAS', Backup Storage system Longer Term: Add G5 as Test Platform Transitioning: When available in 2014, transition forums and library to V4.0 software. Reconfigure architecture to accommodate transition and improve efficiencies further. Of course, all of this assumes we can afford them and be able to keep the connection to the net alive at the same time.
  9. Well, after some long days, we seem to have licked the issues that arose with the update to the IPB base software. As you can see, most functionality of the previous system is back and more importantly, the site is up to its previous speeds of response. I want to thank almost everyone for your patience and understanding during this bit of a flight diversion. We are now back on course, and things can settle down to the low roar that was AVSIM a week or so ago.
  10. As you have probably noticed, we have expanded the Reputation System to include the negative rating button again. If you are unfamiliar with this, at the bottom right of every post, you will find this: The GREEN UP button when clicked, will give a positive 1 point to the rating of the user's post. The RED DOWN button when clicked, will give a negative 1 point to the rating of the user's post. The action of the two are cumulative; that is, 4 positive up votes combined with 2 negative down votes will result in a net of 2 positive votes. All votes are tabulated in the User's profile. The Reputation System is used through out the AVSIM system. Galley owners, contributors to the Video Gallery, Comments to article, reviews and news items, all can be rated by the full membership here. You can only vote once. Once you have voted, the RED / GREEN arrow will disappear and you will not be allowed to vote on that topic or message again. Admins, moderators and senior staff cannot be voted on. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW: We have brought this system back with the down vote enabled to more fairly rate the contributions of a user by his / her fellow members. One liner nonsensical responses, topic hijacking, off topic posts, mean spirited participation and so on, all are justifications for using the down vote. However, we have also experienced "piling on" and "score keeping", agendas at play, competitive motives, etc. Administrators and moderators can see who has voted what. Abuse will result in removal of forum access if necessary, or complete removal of voting rights entirely. Use the voting function with common sense and without agenda. It is there to improve the quality of the forums, not to seek revenge, tit for tat petty differences, etc.
  11. Hello. I am currently in the process of planning a flight from EGKK to KMCO in PFPX. However, I noticed that the airlines use a NAT that is pretty far south. I'm currently looking at NAT J. This track starts in the middle of the Atlantic. An airliner that recently flew this route actually used the first two waypoints of NAT F before deviating to the south to cross via NAT J. This is shown in the image below. How is a clearance obtained from ATC to fly these half NATs? Is it normal to simply hop straight to the middle of the Atlantic and then join a NAT? I am many well confused.

  13. On Monday, March 24th, AVSIM will celebrate its 18th birthday. On Tuesday, the 25th, at noon EST, we will shut the system down for planned maintenance (happy birthday to us!!!). On Tuesday our plan is to power down the system and replace the first of three questionable hard drives in the Web / Forum server. If we power up and the system works, we will allow the RAID system to automatically incorporate the replacement disk as it would normally (or should). On Wednesday, we will repeat the process and as we will also do on Thursday. Each day at noon on those three days, the system will be powered down and a disk will be replaced. If that works, the downtime on each day should be less than an hour. On the final day, Thursday, we will also expand the array to include 2 more new disks to increase our capacity and allow us to go to a RAID configuration that will allow any two disks to fail and we will still maintain operation. If, on Tuesday, we power on and the system does not come back to life after we replace the first faulty disk, as it did a couple of weeks ago, we will immediately replace all three drives and add the two expansion drives, and then start reloading the system from our most recent (Monday, the 24th's) night back up. Our most recent experience with that back up process showed that the complete restore took some 26 - 28 hours to accomplish. We believe that the length of that restore was due to the faulty remaining disks (no one knows for sure at this point, but that is the best conjecture we have). We are looking for a much faster restore process once have all drives installed and assuming that we have to do a restore at all. We will keep you posted as we get nearer to the event and during each day. EDIT: we will be publishing a road map in the coming days as to future improvements, hardware acquisition, remedial activities and the like. Keep your eyes open for that, as I think it will tell you where AVSIM is going in the next five years or so.
  14. Shortly after noon today, we replaced the final faulty drive in our RAID array. That brings to a total of four new drives that have been replaced in our forum server. We have two addition drives to add as expansion, but we will be doing that in the next month. What you should expect now; over the next day or so, the RAID array will be doing its thing and stabilizing. In the meantime you may see system "lags", "jitters" etc. Also, keep an eye on the number of people online at any given point in terms of judging system performance over the coming weekend.
  15. Hi Everyone, I've been immersing myself in the forums, here and elsewhere, to research the VAS/memory management problem that most of us who have 3.4 are struggling with. I'm convinced that it's a memory management problem. In any case, I'm curious to find out what the last version was that did NOT have these VAS problems. Maybe I can ask LM to let me roll it back since I started with 3.4 and can't get earlier versions. My VAS problems are pretty much identical to what everyone's been talking about recently. I'm still in the process of tweaking things, but maybe it will be worthwhile to see if an older version is a better option for decent performance/eye-candy until this issue gets addressed. I can hold my own for the most part with out going near OOM unless I'm in the 777 coming into JFK, and next worst airports are at LAXv2 and DFW. I don't have my sliders to the right, except for those run by the GPU, and am using low res textures. Traffic rarely above 10% unless I'm going into a smaller airport and I'll kick it up a little. Frames hover in the low 20s at most addon airports in the Airbus and 737, and of course, performance is spectacular in default ac. The CS 777 is a performance hog, knocking me down to 12-15fps in most cases at any airport, under any condition. Vectors are limited to primary and secondary roads and my cloud textures are also low. I guess what I'm getting at is I understand the VAS problem, and am learning how to manage settings in order to get the most performance vs graphics. But, after 2 weeks of constant tweaking, researching and testing, version 3.4 just doesn't give back VAS once it takes it away. The only way I can regenerate the memory is to save the flight, make it default, and restart P3D. Fortunately because of the SSD, the process only takes about 1-2 minutes. However, I'm wondering if a previous version would perform better, and if so, which one should I ask for? Thanks, John I7-6700k @4.4-4.6ghz (don't know which is more stable yet) 16gb 2100 DDR4 GTX1060 4gb (little better than the 960, but not by much- may return it) SSD for P3D and all addons ORBX Vector, HD Airports, Global, North America AS16 PMDG ngx Aerosoft Airbus Captain Sim 777 (unflyable), will upgrade to PMDG once I can get performance up Various popular FSDT, Flightbeam, Taxi2gate and Fly Tampa for USA and CYYZ, and Aerosoft (EGLL) airports MT6 (had UT2 migrated fine, but took a big performance hit and AI liveries too much to manage and update.
  16. Hi, my question is, im wanting to buy the PMDG 737NGX soon and im not sure if my computer is fast enough for it. Computer Specs: HP pavilon dv6 CPU 2.40GHz Intel Core i3 6GB RAM windows 7 64 bit
  17. Hello everybody! My system specs: intel core i7 2600K @3.40GHZ Radeon HD 6870 4GB ram I have also tweaked my fsx file using vevetubos tweaking tool. I use PMDG 737 with REX weather addon and this is important: Im using the highest resolution for the game along with frametates set to unlimited. I use addon airports by aerosoft. I tried UTX and GEX but if I have them enabled with my graphics and highest resolution...i will lag :(. Anybody have this problem? because if i set my resolution to lowest i dont lag but then the aircraft looks like S***. Can I have the aircraft interieur look good while the resolution is on the lowest? please answer!!
  18. I got lot of good input online last night from various people from here on Digital Themepark Teamspeak server. [Thanks for that]That lead to me ordering my new system for FSX and X=Plane (and may be Prepare3D later) and my first build. Unfortunately Newegg voided the order last night after-hours because the cell phone number they have didn't match the home number the credit card company had (UGH)....I usually pay with PayPal on Newegg, but wanted this one on a credit card.....resubmitted first thing this AM and 4.5 hours and 2 calls to Newegg and they still haven;t verified the order despite paying their "Rush Order Fee". The only thing I changed really was I took out the Corsair Liquid cooler H80 that SpiritFlyer suggested because I caught this note as I reviewed the order this AM....that cooler "Requires a case with a rear or top 120mm fan mount". The case I like and have ordered (if Newegg EVER verifies my order) doesn't use a 120MM fan at the top, so I switched to the air cooler and compound below. If I were not already over-spending my budget by $400US, I would put a pair of SSD drives to boot from and run FSX on....at least I am buying a full tower with lts of room to do so later. I'll also add a 2nd DVD-R may be B/R and a panel for flash cards from cameras (SD, CF, etc). Anyway...if you have any words of wisdom for me on putting this bad boy together I'll appreciate them (as opposed to second guessing the choices I made ) I do have one question I suppose- since I have installed FSX Gold with Acceleration on my current desktop and my Laptop, do I need to de-register it or anything before installing it on this new beast? Or will I have to call them if reg fails? Not looking forward to dereg'ing and reinstalling all of Adobe CS5, Premiere Pro and After Effects but they should scream on here too I think... Thanks.....hoping they verify the darned order and ship this today. 20. Hi all, after using FS from 3.0 up to FS9/X then switching to mac to further my DJ career-I've come back to lurking about here for quite a while and jealously watching friends from my old VA get into the air again-I've decided to come here asking for a ~budget-mid high range recommend build(my wife will kill me if I even go over-IF she lets me go for it!) to get back in the air with all my friends from the AVSIM/VATSIM community My goals: -Get a computer that will run FSX(or FSX se?) or even P3D ON Vatsim (is FSINN still around? I hated the SQBX Traffic models!) -Run the sim with PMDG MD11/73/74/777, Aerosoft/Blackbox/FSLabs Airbuses(I'm a FBWFTW type of guy) tube liners mainly for VATSIM VA flights. -With Aerosoft heathrow/Dubai etc etc-I want decent scenery -I used to use ASadvanced-I believe it's now ASN for wx. -I'd like to see some pretty pictures like on YouTube with the ORBX/REX/Ultimate Terrain type deals -I'd like to Run these addons with REASONABLY MEDIUM HIGH settings-my last laptop choked on FSX(slide show extraordinaire) I switched to FS9, things ran fairly well then it died... But it looked like the Sahara desert... Barely any scenery etc etc. -I'd also like to Find out what the hell a VC is and why they seem to be standard now?(Never used one before-guess I'll have to learn-apparently now they're all HD :-p ) -I'd like to not mortgage my kidneys or liver for this computer. -I'd really be satisfied to get good A/C performance on point to point flights with JBU's VA/EIN/BAV etc etc With that being said-do I NEED an i7 that's overclocked? Do I NEED a GTX Titan? It seems all the "FSX build bibles" say intel/NVIDIA -I can deal with that but if I can go with ivy bridge that'll save me $100 or so... I also haven't the foggiest regarding PSU/Case/fans:how to overclock without killing things Thanks in advance for any and all help... With tongue firmly in cheek -Ross McD
