  1. Hey Guys I;ve decided to create a Topic on Performance Tweaks for FS9 I just recently Installed FS9 On my older PC To Be honest it doesnt run that bad, Ive added alot of Scenery,Aircrafts. I read about a nifty tool that searches for Missing Alpha Channels in the FS9 Root directory and atumatically fixes them. Ive done that along with a few FS9.CFG Tweaks and i mus say it runs flawlessly. Anyhow the purpose of this thread,is for people to share there Most effective tweaks (MOST EFFECTIVE TWEAKS) lol or even New tweaks that has xchanged there Flight simulation expirience P;ease Share. My system Specs CPU/ Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHZ Mother Board/ INTEL DG43GT Classic Series GPU/ AMD RADEON HD 6750 Series PCI Express SYS RAM/ 8GB RAM DDR2 Please Share;-) Happy SImming
  2. Hello everyone! Just so everyone knows, I am aware that if im using all those addons ill be getting bad fps but not as bad as i thought. So i just got accepted into Qantas Virtual so ill be doing my flying in Australia, and who better for scenery than ORBX?! So I load up P3D, select YBBN (Brisbane, with all patches and I have taken out all the major FPS killers in the control panel except for PeopleFlow.) and I load up my 737. My FPS during the day time is only at 20 at the gate with the plane systems on! Now ill give you a series of tweaks that i did to my CFG file and system specs, also, should I turn the the resolution on the 737? Will it look really bad? Used Bojotes tweak tool for fsx, For the bufferpools i replaced their number with 0, and i also added the Fiber frame fraction tweak and set it at 0.33. Other than that I set the ORBX effects to Day mode. System specs: Intel core i5 2500K 4.5ghz AMD Radeon 6870 1GB 8GB RAM 750 Watts PSU ASROCK P67 MOBO FSX is on a 1TB hard drive And numerous addons. Is there maybe something i missed or can do to improve my frames when flying in australia? Because in Europe I get great frames, i dont check the number but get between 25 (lowest) to 40 with the pmdg. Thanks!
  3. Dear Simmers, I've been reading a lot of information regarding tips and tricks to get the most out of FSX. To be honest it gets very confusing as there's too many opinions differing from each other. I recently got a very nice built but it seems my specs aren't enough to get the most out of FSX without doing additional tweaking or tuning. My CPU: - PROCESSOR:Intel Core i7-990X BX80613I7990X Processor Extreme Edition - Six Core, 12MB L3 Cache, 1.5MB L2 Cache, 3.46 GHz (3.73 GHz Max Turbo). - MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE G1.Assassin Intel X58 Motherboard - ATX, Socket B (LGA1366), Intel X58 Chipset, 2200MHz DDR3, SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 7.1-CH Audio, CrossFireX/SLI Ready, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0. - VIDEO CARDS: 2 (two) GTX-570, 2.5 GB each. - MEMORY: 12GB, DDR3, 2000 MHZ. - HARD DRIVE: Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6G. - Windows 7, 64 Bits Now the question is, which of the following tips should I follow to get the most out of FSX based on the above specifications. As previously mentioned, there are too many opinions and maybe some of the ones I read are out of date. 1.- Bojote's Tweak Vs. Buying Xtreme FSX PC V2: Is Bojote's tweak enough for boosting performance? Is it worth spending money on Xtreme FSX? Which one will give more FPS´s? 2.- Downloading Shader Model 3 from Bojote Vs. Buying Mogwaisoft Shade: Do I need both? Is there any difference between them? What is the purpose of the shader? Will I get more FPS? 3.- Overclocking the CPU: Will I really boost performance by overclocking the CPU up to 4.5GHZ. Will the CPU get overheated? Is this really necessarily? 4.- Disk Defrag: I've heard of the O&O Defrag. Some say is good, some say is useless. Would any defrag work? Should I defrag the whole dics or just FSX's folder? 5.- FPS Limiter 0.2: Can someone please explain what is this? Will this limit the FPS outside the FSX? Should I set the FPS in the FSX to "unlimited"? 6.- NVIDIA Inspector:What is it with this tool? I really don't understand the following statement (taken out of this forum): " Make your CPU do all the work that it can. Use "Nvidia Inspector" for AA settings ..ect NOT FSX. Turn off AA in FSX and drop Filtering to Trilinear." I'm really not an expert in this topics. Even though I've been using FS for more than 15 years, I've never tweaked nor tuned anything in the program. I just thought that by buying a computer with such specs would make the simulator run completely smooth, but with my add ons and graphic settings sometimes the FPS comes down to 10 (which is unacceptable for the money I spent). Please help me on this. Thanks
  4. Hello, After trying the tweaks posted by Word Not Allowed and the automated tweaking tool from Bojote, my FSX performs pretty well EXCEPT in cities where I have Aerosoft US Cities X installed which are San Francisco and Manhattan. The FPS range at about 6-9 FPS and there are stutters. I don't think my system can't handle it. I know the RADEON HD 6970 is not the best for FSX but I'm trying to figure out what else I can do to to make the sim run smoother in those areas. Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. My specs are listed on my profile.
  5. Hello guys, I came to this forum without any knowledge about DX10 looking for help and after some tweaks and topic discussion with some members of this forum related with DX10 and Windows 8.1 this is the result so far for a series of tweak's and test on FSX! So far my system is running very soft, no crashes, i got really good performance and very good graphics quality. As you guys can see for weather i'm not 100% familiarized with the correct setting to make my engines run more clouds and more turbulence, something that i would like to catch for more realism proposite, my weather engine is REX Essential + Overdrive and i got REX 4 Texture Direct as well. For this sample i'm using the PMDG NGX 900 aircraft and DX10 Scenery Fixer v2.3 :im Not Worthy: i want to say thanks to the forum and the guys who gave me their reviews and suggestions on this topic >>>> Richard Sennett, SteveW, mgh and voodoo101, i really appreciate your help guys. 6. Hey everyone, I am a frequent fsx flyer but very new to this forum. I have flown hours and hours on windows 7 and vista and now the time has come for me to install fsx on windows 8.1   I know lots will say that 8.1 has problems regarding fsx, but I have no real choice as except for fsx, 8.1 does everything better for me. I have the fsx gold pack, GEX europe, REX + OD 2 and PMDG 737, 747 and Carenado B1900D aircrafts to install. Right now, I have done the following. 1) Run standard fsx disk 1 and 2 (deluxe) setup. (installed on secondary HDD) 2) Flown a free flight for 10 mins 3) Installed SP1 4) Flown a free flight for 10 mins 5) Installed acceleration pack. I have only found this video for 8.1 and I have followed it. I was really looking if anyone knows of a guide ( or could quickly summarise for me ) the cfg tweaks and tweaks in fsx that I should do to get the best out of fsx in windows 8.1 for my hardware. I have capable hardware to run max settings (I think) ; I have an AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz, XFX 7970 DD OC and 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM. I would also appreciate if anyone has any tips to give for installing the add ons that I listed above. I apologise, if I am posting in the wrong place or if this topic has come up several times before, as I said, I am very new to this forum, but not fsx. Thanks for all the help, in advance!
  7. Hi guys, Recently I've upgraded my PC to a GTX 970 FTW and therefore reinstalled windows. So a few days ago I installed P3D V2.4 on my PC with FTX England, Orbx Global and Global Vector and so I'm wondering whether there are any working performance tweaks that will work with 2.4? Running P3D V2.4 I get around 30-40FPS on Ultra settings but my GPU is only seeing around 30% load and around 2.45GB of VRAM used (Out of 4GB) so there's a lot of horsepower in the beast to spare. CPU - 4790K OC @ 4.4GHz (4.6GHz Turbo) and sees around 67% load when in-game. Are there any tweaks that will allow me to use more resources and get more detail and/or just use more resources to get more FPS? I know RAM is limited due to 32-bit but how about GPU resources? Searching around it's very confusing as to what actually works with 2.4 so I'd like to simply ask in a new thread. Many thanks for your answers, Chris
  8. I finally took the plunge and upgraded my system from the AMD 965 Black Edition to the new Ivy Bridge i7-3770K with some GSkill TridentX Ram (2666!!) and the Sabertooth MB w/Z77 chipset. I did a fresh format of my FSX SSD and my System SSD. I have not done any overclocking .... yet !!! I have just reinstalled FSX, and of course my first add-on was the NGX. I haven't done any FSX tweaks, and just for kicks, I loaded up the NGX at my home base. It loaded fast as hell, but the visuals were horrific. All I can say is I really must have had the other install really dialed in. I just realized the scope of the work ahead of me (and this is after two and a half days of building a new computer, etc.). The hardest part of all this is trying to decide which steps to do in what order. Wish me luck, I'll keep you posted. P.S. For Zach ... you were right ... AMD is Cr*p P.S.S. I am getting some pmdg.dll app crashes AFTER exiting. I guess that'll all come out in the wash. I have a lot of forum searching to do. ugh!
  9. I want to buy a new pc that can run the pmdg 777 on addon scenery like UK2000 and the rest of must have addons (REX, FTX Global,...) and get above 25 fps in the cockpit. Is this possible with these specs ? I5-4690k overclocked up to 4.6 ghz MSI Z97 GTX 960 2gb 8gb ram I know tweaks must be applied
  10. Hi all! this is my first post here I hope its in the right place. Got to thank the AMAZING flight simmer community for tons and tons of valuable info that has enhanced my FSX experience in the last couple weeks since I got my hands on the software. Found the following resource for configuring camera views and just had to create some 'approach/taxi' cam views that I felt was sorely missing. Not for the hardcore simmers preference of viewing the world from inside the confines of your virtual cockpit, but for training I wanted views that showed a rear camera/front facing/top down angle of the whole aircraft and the land below (the default tail view doesnt do that for me). http://www.fstipsand...sx-cameras.html I have apended 4 views to the cameras.cfg file (found in same FSX folder the fsx.cfg is located in), as well as enabling the hidden AI aircraft views and disabling 2 of the tower views I never used. Feel free to backup you cameras.cfg file and try my own file (right click cameras.cfg/left click copy/right click in directory/left click paste - then open cameras.cfg and delete all text replacing with the complete cfg version below), or just add the views onto the end of the file, making sure the cameradefinition.xx numbers are unique (by default they should be if you havent edited the file before). Here is the complete cfg file that I now use followed by just the additions I made for these extra views if you just want to add them. I put some time in making them all work with the default aircraft in FSX so I think you will find them very useful ********************************complete cameras.cfg file******************************************* [CameraDefinition.001] Title = Cockpit Guid = {B1386D92-4782-4682-A137-738E25D1BAB5} Description = This is the description of the cockpit view Origin = Cockpit ShowPanel = Yes SnapPbhAdjust = Ordinal SnapPbhReturn = True PanPbhAdjust = Ordinal PanPbhReturn = True Track = None ShowAxis = FrontOnly AllowZoom = TRUE InitialZoom = 1.0 SmoothZoomTime = 2.0 ShowWeather = Yes XyzAdjust = TRUE ShowLensFlare=FALSE Category = Cockpit HotKeySelect=2 [CameraDefinition.002] Title = Virtual Cockpit Guid = {C95EAB58-9E4A-4E2A-A34C-D8D9D948F078} Description = This is the description of the virtual cockpit view. 11. Hi all, Some months ago I updated my computer. Old one was a i7 2400k, mid-end amd gpu.... So went for new config and here it is: ASUS Maximus VII Hero Intel I7 4790K running at 4.8Ghz 32GB of DDR3 (4x KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX) 500GB SSD EVO 850 And last but not least: EVGA GTX980 AC2.0 (4gb) First installed windows 8.1, but when I tried to play FSX steam edition, things looked realy bad. I wasn't able to get it in widescreen for some reason. So after a while I thought to give it a shot with windows 10, because I realy wanted it running again. It has been a while since my last tweaking, so started searching some tweaks again... But for some reason i'm messing up. When I test the game and look at GPU-Z. Memory of the GPU stays the same, there is no load, only the clock and memory speed go slightly up. Used Nvidia configurator to set texturing and AA options... Or should it realy be nvidia inspector? These are some options I tested with in fsx.cfg (So don't have to put all of .cfg in here: [GRAPHICS] HIGHMEMFIX=1 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 [BUFFERPOOLS] POOLSIZE=0 BufferPools=1 UsePools=1 RejectThreshold=126976 Poolsize=490000000 [JOBSCHEDULER] [DISPLAY] TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=40 [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.15 [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980.0] Mode=1920x1080x32 Anisotropic=1 [SCENERY] LENSFLARE=0 DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1 IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5 [TERRAIN] LOD_RADIUS=5.500000 MESH_COMPLEXITY=100 MESH_RESOLUTION=23 TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=27 AUTOGEN_DENSITY=4 DETAIL_TEXTURE=1 WATER_EFFECTS=7 Is there anybody who can point me to the right direction or even better with a smooth running .cfg with a kinda identical system? For those who respond... thx already!
  12. Hi, I have had FSX installed on my "new" pc (specs in signature) for about six months now, and I have gone through endless forums on how to improve performance, and I have managed to get my performance up to a pretty good level (most scenery settings maxed, all traffic except for GA at 40%). I use the BP=0 tweak, but I tend to get artifacts when panning. When I try to use bufferpools or delete the [bufferpools] section in FSX.cfg (Rebuilding didn't help), I get endless stutters in wing, spot, and locked spot views (I have enough VRAM-2 GB). Yes, I could turn the settings down, but I have already tried that . For some reason, I have actually seen a performance decrease when turning down autogen, and traffic has no effect until it is set to around 75-80%. :unknw: Does anyone have any suggestions? I think it is my GPU, because I routinely see usage at 90-100%. Thanks!
  13. Hi everyone! I am new here in the forums and new in the FSX thing. I’ve been "flying" with FSX for about 2 months now. From the day I started, I’ve tried to read some basic things about FSX. The most difficult part for me was to achieve smooth performance (everyone wants that). I must mention here that I have a mid-end computer (i5 @ 3.2-3.6GHz, and a GTX660 OC) and tweaking was inevitable in order to gain some performance, especially with some heavy add-ons like REX and FTX Global. So, I started watching videos and tutorials in YouTube and learned a lot (not everything, of course, the basic stuff). I 've used J. Bojote's optimizing tool, I 've read the biggest part of NickN's "Bible" which helped me setting up my system, I 've watched RotationX's tweaking series (very informative and easy to use), some Frooglesim's videos, read Nikos's answers, used Steve's DX10 fixing tools and many, many more... My respect to all these guys. They really helped me immensely in understanding all these new things. There are, as I can see now, 2 accepted ways of locking frames in a simulator like this: 1. Internally, with FSX's settings (NickN suggests a target frame rate of 30fps with no external locking) 2. Externally, either with the FPS Limiter (when DX9 is used), or with the NVidia's Inspector Frame Limiter command (when DX10 is used). In this case, people sets the internal TFR to Unlimited and externally force it down to 30 fps. When Vsync is used, they just select a 1/2 refresh rate in nvidiaInspector, which locks frames to 30 fps (60Hz/2). My basic problem with the solutions above was that I kept having the image tearing effect, even with Vsync on, and when the desired frame rate was finally accomplished, another problem kept breaking my nerves... Stuttering. Then suddenly, eureka! Inside the Inspector's Frame Limiter I read this: "58 (might improve inputlag on vsync 60Hz)" I don't know if anyone has already tried this out, but by setting the TFR (Target Frame Rate) of FSX to 58-60 internally and applying 1/2 refresh rate inside the Inspector one gets impressive results (in my system, the best so far), compared to all the other combinations (and believe me, I've tryed a tone of them). No more tearing, no more stuttering. A perfectly smooth simulation! I am not a computer genius, but I sense that by setting the TFR to 58-60 inside FSX, you guide the application to synchronize with the screen's refresh rate. Then, the NVidia's 1/2 refresh rate setting really makes an easy job producing 29-30 fps from a stabilized system. (Make sure to check the Vsync 1/2 refresh rate option inside the NVidia's Control Panel too. The Inspector does not always communicate well with it). Try this out if you want, and see what happens. I would like to read your opinions. Nick PS NVidia's ShadowPlay is a great invention!!
  14. Hello Avaitor friends, i am Metehan Demir from Turkey and just join the forum in order to seek help from you about the FSX and its configuration. I have been in fsx till 2006 and in vatsim till 2009. With the new addons and stuff, as you know fsx is getting complicated when using PMDG aircraft and using the sceneries - vector - orbx - rex and active sky - ezdok ext.... This problem is i knew in this forum it has written all the time but i wish to create my own file and pls help me. My problem is , I have tweaked my FSX.CFG which i am not 100% sure if it is actually works , but at the same time while i am flying for 1 hours or 2 or 3 hours flight , somehow not always i get Errors out of memory and sometimes your computer has run out of available memory. Please restart fsx and select different graphic settings or traffic settings. The errors are seen when i am about to arrive the city where i am about to land. But now always but often. Any chance can you send me the Tweak CFG and help me what i should to in the FSX settings to run smootly my fsx. My RIG is Windows 7 64 Bit i5 2500 3.30 GHZ 8 Gb 1333 Mhz Ram Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X Gigabyte-PH67-UD3(motherboard) 730 W PSU 1 TB HDD (not SSD)
  15. We've (mostly) all been there. You purchase new hardware. Your add-ons get away from you. You make a bad tweak and hork up the entire system. Time for an FSX rebuild! As much as we've been told by folks like Froogle, and others, we are as bad at documenting our tweaks as developers are at commenting their code. Selfishly, I am posting this topic in hopes to take a stab at creating a tweak guide, that is based on trial and error, documented, and includes a checklist. (All aviators, real life or virtual love checklists). I offer up my rig as the guineapig. I'm looking for experienced tweakers, and tweak authors who are willing to work on the tweak guide to end all tweak guides. In my case, the system is dedicated to FSX and VRC, and that's it. Also, the goal is that this guide allows for optimization without processor overclocking, or hardware mods. (Proper cooling, installation, and power are all assumed to be required) If you are interested, experienced, and know what you are doing, please respond to the thread, and I'll add you to the list of folks who want to be a part of this project. Again, I am looking for those who have successful experience, and are willing to work on this project long term, not those looking for instant gratification. If there's one thing I've learned, it is that instant gratification is unrealistic for FSX users. Thanks, Brad
