  1. Hello out there. Hope all is well with everyone. I was cruising along with my new z170, 6700k, 1070 and a patriot ignite m.2 480 when the win 10 boot disk failed. So I removed that HD and used my other HD, which was active at the time as the primary boot disk. What I had to do was install windows 7 because my win 10 OS was a free upgrade from win7 at the time (6 months ago). Now the SSD, although visible in the bios and in Device Manager, it is NOT visible in the disk manager. I have not a clue what to do. I can follow directions though if anyone has any ideas Thanks Much Bob
  2. Hi, all, I'm a newbie to this forum. I've been building a cockpit over the past several months and am now building a new PC to run it. These are my specs: Intel Core i5-6600k 3.5GHz Cryorig H7 49 CFM cooler MSI Z170A Krait Gaming 3X motherboard MSI GeForce GT 710 MSI GeForce GTX950 2GB G.Skill Ripjaws V Series DDR4 16GB Crucial MX300 535GB SSD DIYPC S280-W case EVGA 100-B1-0500-KR 500W power supply I have been running MS-FSX Gold Edition w/Acceleration on Windows 7 with these add-ons: Orbx-FTX: Global BASE Orbx-FTX:VECTOR REX4 Texture Direct w/ REX Soft Clouds My Questions are: Do I stick with Windows 7 or move to Windows 10? Do I stick with FSX or is there an advantage to switching to FSX-SE? Any other 3rd party plugins I should consider? Any and all advice or thoughts welcome! Thank you kindly! Dave
  3. I installed the unregistered version of FSUIPC4(Ver4.84), Linda v1.11 with module 1.7 for NGX and FSX with SP2. If I used the VRi software, the MCP Combo II(Boeing) works. If I use Linda(do not run the VRi software), the panel lights blink when FSX starts, but I never get past the "Select your Aircraft and FLY Now" on the MCP LCD. No buttons or knobs work. Everything is green on the Linda GUI. The PMDG737NGX choosen in the LINDA GUI when I press FSX sync. Clicking the "Reload Lua Engine" gives me a status line on the FS display, but nothing changes. OS: Win7 64bit In FSUIPC.ini, I can find these two lines [VRInsight] 1=com3 no [Luafiles] and [MacroFiles] sections in that file. Appreciate any suggestions.
  4. I've got a fairly new machine which I used to sim race constantly on but i've pulled back on that habit and decided i'd give good ol FSX a whirl on here but every time, without fail, i'm about 10 seconds maybe 30 seconds into a flight my entire machine freezes. I can't ctrl-tab can ctrl-alt-del can't do anything but hold the power button and shut down the machine. This is mega-frustrating as i'm not exactly running an ancient machine here. I've tried turning up and down the sliders, not running the game full screen, making sure the computer is nice and cool...nothing is overclocked or non standard I guess. I've looked in the event logs and have no idea what i'm looking for...seriously, this is frustrating. I've been running iRacing and rFactor on this computer with fairly robust graphics with little if any freezing whatsoever so there is something in FSX that doens't like my machine... I really have no idea where to go with this. I'm assuming I should be able to run FSX with some tweaking, but the sheer volume of problems I see posted in this forum are entirely overwhelming...i figured i'd see if anyone can get me started. I'm not even sure where i should begin as i've never had FSX running on this machine previously. Here are my system specs Windows 7 64bit- fully patched as of this morning, prior to even installing FSX 2 ATI Radeon 5700's, crossfire enabled, 12.3 drivers (I did roll this back from the 12.6 drivers already - the problem happens with both drivers) FSX + Acceleration pack CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, 2833 MHz (8.5 x 333) Motherboard Name Asus Rampage Formula (2 PCI, 3 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Dual Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394 Motherboard Chipset Intel Beachwood X48 System Memory 8192 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM) Can someone please just help me figure this out? Where on earth do I start to trouble shoot? It's a new install and a clean version of windows...i've no idea what to do. Thanks.
  5. Hi: I upgraded to WIN 7 and while setting up partitions, accidentally deleted my entire FSX installation that was in its own partition. So, there should be nothing left from the old install. I set up a new partition for the drive dedicated to FSX and installed the program. When I try to run FSX Gold it stops with a screen that says "Flight Simulator requires at least one each of the following to run: an airport, a VOR, an NDB, and a waypoint. There is currently no waypoints in the dataset. Flight Simulator will now exit." I did a repair install, nothing changed. And, when I looked at the scenery.cfg in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX, its top lines refer to FS9 ([General] Title=FS9 World Scenery Description=FS9 Scenery Data What is going on? Thanks for your help. mGN
  6. Hello everyone, I really missed playing MS FS after abandoning PCs many years ago so I thought I'd try to get it up on my Mac and had limited success that I thought I'd shared. I first brought it up on my iMac (5 year old machine; 1 3.3 Ghz Dual Core; Bootcamp with Win 7, did the tweaks mentioned in several places to the OS) and installed FSX with RC and UT2. I got decent graphics performance, with 20FPS until I loaded UT2 and then the AI traffic seemed to really kill things. So I thought (from what I'd read everywhere) that AI cost lots of CPU so I'll install it on my Mac Pro (3 Year old machine; 2 2.66Ghz Quad Core with 16GB of RAM). Turns out, with AI traffic on, I only get about a 10% increase in performance. Again, without AI, I do quite well on FPS with very nice, high settings. So, my next attempt will be to move off of UT2 and try WOAI traffic and see if that improves things. Anyone else have suggestions or stories/experience to share? -- DK
  7. Hello,After a time of 1 year that i havn't played Flight Simulator X Deluxe i tough: let's play it again. So in installed it on my Acer Aspire 5560G laptopSpecs:- windows 7- 64 bit- 8gb ram- quad core amd a6 of 2,30ghz- AMD Radeon HD 6720G2 (1GB VRAM)- FSX on c partition (enough space)But on some planes, like the Cessna i don't have the instruments like the alt-meter. And almost all the standard planes have a ''black'' radio screen. Can somebody tell me what the problem is?picture:Things I've tried:- deleted all my addons- run as administrator.- run as Vista- run as XP- service pack 1- service pack 2- re install- and again... (install, delete all files, service packs, run in admin, run as XP and Vista)- search on other sites (forums, google, Microsoft support, this forum)
  8. Hey folks. I am at the point where my system needs an upgrade. I long for better performance in p3d, and my current rig is feeling the age. I am thinking about getting the i7-6700K with a z170 ASUS Ranger mobo. This is my current shopping list. I have a NZXT big tower case, and I am wondering two things: 1. Will the mobo fit in there? 2. Will the dual fan of the corsair water cooler fit or do I have to go with a single fan cooler? Thanks so much in advance for any help and input. I am a novice on building pc's myself.
  9. The latest updates from MS introduced a new option in the disk cleanup dialogue. It enables you do get lost of the unnecessary files from previous updates and only was available via some extra tools before. Now this wasn't really newsworthy but I could get rid of over 6gb on my small laptop SSD which is quite the gain. See this example shot of where the option is. That's after cleaning of course, so perhaps check how much free HDD/SSD space is available for you. Note. It might need a reboot to really show up as new free space. That reboot will also feature the 'don't turn your PC off' screen for a second, so I guess it's really cleaning up. After cleaning, you could purchase even more addons, right? Just saying. B)
  10. Hello gents. Yes, it's one of the million performance threads you're all so fond of! Shortly explained, I have a nice setup with my current FSX. I've followed 'bout every pinned or highly regarded topic/guide for tweaking, settings, nVidia inspecor, and so forth. I'm overall qutie pleased. BUT, now and then when I'm flying, I have periods of reduced framerates, which just is a pain in my lower back region. I'm currently externally limited to 29 in Inspector (tried other limiters, and other fps-rates as well, with no real change), and FSX's holding that limit just fine. Then suddenly it drops down to 15ish, maybe even dropping down to 10 now and then. It does that for a short while (less then a minute, usually), then pops back up to the limit. This occurs wiithin varying intervals, usually there's between 5 and 15 minutes separating each "inceident". I've googled and browsed and tried to find an answer to this riddle for ages, with no luck. The drops/drags happens regardless of the scenery below or the weather, and it's the same if I fly the NGX or the default C172. Now I'm getting tired of it all, and I turn to the bright minds of this forum to aid me in the search of an sollution. I have the following specs: Hardware: ASUS P6X58D-E, Socket-1366 Intel Core i7 Quad Processor i7-950 Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz 6GB CL7 GeForce GTX 470 1280MB PhysX Software: Win7 64x Ultimate SP1 FSX with Acceleration CFG File: I'm very happy for all contributions, evne the most elementary ones, as it might well happen I've skipped something vital even though I've used a loong time working this problem.
  11. Hi all, Help needed. I'm trying to install Win7 from DVD on new system build (latest 6700K & ASUS ROG Mobo) without a CDRom drive. I have a USB 3.0 stick that I made bootable and copied over the disk files but It still fails to install. Getting a missing drivers dialog during beginning of install. I also tried by making an iso and putting that on the stick and it too failed stating no bootmgr was found. Any suggestions on how to proceed are greatly appreciated. Mike
  12. Any Ideas on this error? Everything was working perfect until I installed the FSDT airports (all of them). I'm running win 7, and this is the error log: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: fsx.exe Application Version: 10.0.61472.0 Application Timestamp: 475e17d3 Fault Module Name: StackHash_fe4a Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000 Exception Code: c0000096 Exception Offset: 0f82169d OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: fe4a Additional Information 2: fe4aa35611e6f5b804064fc690477314 Additional Information 3: ca2f Additional Information 4: ca2f666c0d65544a8dfe4156d2b193a4
  13. Please help. I run Win 7 64 on my laptop. Have FSX deluxe installed from the DVD and registered. Downloaded and installed SP1 just fine. Now, downloaded SP2 and when trying to instal it I get an installer error. I have attached a pic of the error. Can anyone help me? Some add-ons wn't work without SP2. Thank you.
  14. Hi Guys!! My setup has two hard drives a 600Gb fast drive which has all my FSX and related add-ons on it and the main 1Tb drive which has the OS and my other non-FS programs on it. Recently the large drive failed and I had to replace it. After I thanked the Almighty that all my FS stuff was safe, when i started up the computer most of my icons on the desktop were gone including that for FSX. I tried to start FSX from inside the small drive by double clicking on the FSX application icon therein. When I did this I received the following message: "The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed. Please reinstall Flight Sim to restore or repair this missing component." I'm happy to reinstall fsx, but I'm hoping I won't have to reload all my hundreds of add-ons. If I insert disk one and follow the directions of the original FSX Gold edition, will it still recognize all the add ons already installed on the same drive? Hope I'm asking this correctly and I appreciate your help in advance. It wasn't 6 months ago when I had a corrupted operating system and lost everything - then I had to reload everything and it took me over 3 months to do so. Would sure hate to have to do that again. . . Thanks much!! Donn
