HOT TIP when upgrading video drivers under DX8.1

If after upgrading drivers you notice reduced or poor Direct3D performance run DXDiag, disable D3D, exit and reboot. Then go back and enable D3D. This solved a problem for me where only half of the D3D tests under DXdiag would run properly.
