Approach mode

Featured Replies

Can anyone explain to me why the 737 wants to climb to the GS indicator while in CMD APP mode? I experienced this issue at both Tampa and Atlanta airport. Aircraft climbed from approach altitude to about 5000 feet until the GS indicator was centered and then began a normal descent.

Dont quote me because I am by no means A pro...If it landed ok, then I think it was just intercepting, the GS from below, which I think is quite normal. I belive it to be harder to intercept from above although I have seen planes do it. How far out were you?If following FS ATC they usually want you on the GS at about 2000 ft, and about 7-10 miles out, from the runway, now I would assume that in order to maintain the correct approach path, and stable speed, The plane climbed if you were to far out, then once it intercepted the GS, you would add some Drag with the flasp, then set Your speeds, and she will descend towards the runway, for a full auto land.I can only say that I have never had a problem with the PMDG 737, and I put the Autoloand through a nice cross wind landing at Bologna last night, with a 35kt cross wind she touched down like a feather, a little bit of correction here and there on approach, but she greased it, and the PAX were happy :)Hope this helps, I could be way off, so if someone else knows better please correct me, as I would like to know about this to.Jason

Well what I noticed a couple of times is that when I arm the APP mode, as the glideslope descends to the center and it's just slightly above it, the plane kind of jumps up towards it for a second, then goes back to normal as it intercepts the GS and flies perfectly from there on.Anybody experience this?Regards,Bjorn
