September 1, 200322 yr Are there any speed limits on the use of the Retractable Landing Lights? The NG retractable lights seem to be a lot larger than the Classic 737 and I was thinking that they would offer a larger surface area (easier to break off). Here's a shot of the old type...http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/737/...tClassic737.jpgCheers.Ian.
September 1, 200322 yr Hi Ian,To my knowledge both the Classic and NG retractable lights should only be used below 250kts.
September 1, 200322 yr Forgot to add, just in case."Retractable Landing: (NG only) Replaces the outboard landing lights on the earlier series. These are located on the fuselage just beneath the ram air intakes. Note Use of both of these lights should be avoided at speeds above 250kts due to excessive air loads on their hinges. "Bruno Francescoli.
September 1, 200322 yr Thanks, guys... I'll be sure not to use the retractable ones when flashing my lights at oncoming traffic in cruise ;-)Cheers.Ian.
September 2, 200322 yr I also sound the Ground Call horn when the Hooters 737 flys by ;-)http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=332874Cheers.Ian.
