September 21, 200322 yr Ok everyone...I have tried the tutorials, tried reading the manual, tried everything i can possibly think of...and I still crash on takeoff. Problem: The autothrottle decides to slow to like 120 knots after I take off and I sink and crash. What I do:Program the FMC with sid/star t/o data V1 spds are automatically selected. I turn on autothrottle, hit to/ga and as soon as I lift off the autothrottle starts reducing thrust to around 120 knots. What am I doing wrong? If someone could help me out by either walking me through on AIM my name is Lt Bigdog18799 or trying to help me out here I would greatly appreciate it because I want to fly this bird from SFO to the moon!!!Brian

You also have to turn on the autopilot - all pressing the TOGA button does is set takeoff thrust, if you don't manage your pitch (you're hand flying) to maintain V2 or higher before you turn on the autpilot (CMD A), you'll have your nose too high and thse speed will decrease.
September 21, 200322 yr I have a similar issue that I've noticed now that the NG is installed on my XP desktop. I don't see this issue on my WIN 2000 laptop and both are the 1.1 SU release.I have my FD on, FMS is programmed for all the correct V speeds. The speed window on the glareshield is set for V2. When I arrive at the departure end of rwy, I ARM the auto throttles. At this point, I notice that my throttles drop to idle and my PFD indicates "0" in magenta on the speed tape. On my other box, this speed would be set for my V2+10 takeoff speed the moment I armed the auto throttles. In addition, once the throttles go to idle, I cannot manually control them at all (using joystick or keyboard). So, to takeoff, I dis-armed the auto throttle and applied thrust to abt 40% manually. THEN armed the throttles. Engines spooled up as normal, then went right back to idle w/o manual control. I had enough rwy to stop.Any ideas?BTW, I'm using FSUIPC (registered) v3.06. Will update to .08 after I see if this issue is related to FSUIPC.Thanks,

September 23, 200322 yr "I have my FD on, FMS is programmed for all the correct V speeds. The speed window on the glareshield is set for V2. Maybe something is out of sequence here.Something I noticed when I was experimenting.... With the engines off, and the A/T and F/D armed, when I hit the TOGA screw, the A/T mode and A/P pitch/roll modes go to the takeoff modes. Is this correct? (I have no idea what it should or shouldn't do).Thanks.Cheers.Ian.
September 24, 200322 yr Ian,Actually, I dont recall what the FMA was indicating at the time. I'll have to try it again and see what gives. I've since started trying to tackle the A340 and I have my issues with this bird now as well. I'll try the A330 again but it won't be until I come back from the USGP F1 race next week.Aaron
September 27, 200322 yr I have the exact same problem!I follow a tutorial step by step. But when I come to takeoff something goes wrong. I set the correct speed in the MCP speed window, then ARM the A/T and then hit the TOGO. One thing I notcie is that whatever value I put in the MCP speed window the PFD indicates "0" in magenta on the speed tape! As I scroll through different speeds a value somtimes flashes on the speed tape, but it disapears in less then a split second. If I change it to show the speed in mach I get at value on the speed tape, that doesn't disapear. This can't be the way it's supposed too, can it?Anyway, when I then hit the TOGO screw the engines spool up nicely and I take off. After rotation the FD commands a +25 degree pitch up, if I try to fly as the FD tells me the aircraft stalls. In addition to this the A/T puts the throttle at idle position right after takeoff, probably because it tries to reach the target speed, 0!(?)I think the big issue here is the "0" on the speed tape. Shouldn't it always show the same value as the MCP speed window, in my case V2+10 (I've treied V2+20 aswell as the aircraft isn't heavy loaded or fuled) as that is the speed I have entered?

So, here's one last-ditch thing to try before you do the de-install/re-install dance:Fire up flight sim, and select the Cessna Caravan. Make sure the battery is off, but make sure the avionics master is ON.Occasionally advanced sims malfunction when the default avionics master is off.If that doesn't cure your problem, then I'd suggest you do a de-install using the PMDG program.Best wishes,

The FD should then command whatever is set in the window plus 20 knots automatically. The NG has a rather unique feature, however. When the MCP airspeed knob is moved (one click) or the A/P engaged, the displayed airspeed on your MCP and the magenta bug on your PFD will jump to V2+10 to match your FD commands. As for your problem with "0" being displayed, I've only ever seen this in real life on a 747-400 (on the ground) when I have pushed the airspeed knob with the FD not selected.http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/SpdwoFD.jpgCheers.Ian.
September 28, 200322 yr Thanks Ian and Timothy for your nice answers. I'll try to re-install the aircraft in FS2002 and FS2004. If the problem isn't solved by then you'll probably see me posting at this forum again! :)
September 30, 200322 yr Hi,I encountered the same problem as well. I reverted to the original version where this works normally, the selected speed on MCP shows as in the EADI above the speed tape. I run FS2002 Pro.Does PMDG have a suggestion in this matter? /SAS108
September 30, 200322 yr Ok guys,After I posted this I uninstalled the aircraft then reinstalled it. It now works like a champ. Ive been flying around everywhere. For some reason it just needed to be reinstalled. Gotta love computers=)
October 1, 200322 yr Hi, what equipment do you run your FS on?I believe that I did the things you mentioned, but you can never really tell... Have to try again tonight. I run FS2002Pro on an AMD 1.25 Ghz with 524 mb ram and 64 mb nVidia card and as OS I have 2000 pro, plus a 40GB hd./SAS108
