October 10, 200322 yr I have been playing around with non-precision apps, and it seems to me that vnav is not really much use under 10000 feet, how is it used in the real world? After all, you're usually being vectored by then anyway, and it's sooo easy to get a vnav disconnect just when you don't need it. I find the mcp easier for these appraoches, what do the rest of you do?ant

October 11, 200322 yr Hi tim, yeah, thats what I did last night on the circle to land at nice. LNAV stayed on until I got to the visual portion, VNAV was not much use after the IAF. I know pilots have to know how to do non-precsion apps, but how often would you say they get to use them? My understanding of airline policy is that if there is an ILS appraoch available and in use, that will be used, as it is more cost effective and safer. Pilots that have posted on the ps1 board have often said the only time they do a VOR app is when they have their sim checks.cheersant
