October 11, 200322 yr Thius morning I decided to fly a NON-FMC flight between PDX and PSC using the VOR only.On final approach to PSC I intercepted the GS/LOC about 12 miles out and every thing was smooth sailing my speed was 145kt as I was fully oaded with fuel....at 4.5 miles out and 2000 feet the GS just disconnected and the AC went in to a uncontrollable climb. It was not until I dised the AP and the AT and gained control of the AC and brought it in steep but had a nice flare out on the numbers and the CL.This is not the first time that this has happened does anyone else have this problem?????.....what can I do to correct it in the future>Thanks

Sounds like you might have been above the glideslope.Try the flight again and fly loc/altitude and intercept the glideslope from below. I'd suggest the following:Intercept the localizer, and immediately dive the plane to 1000 AGL, and put the airplane in ALT HOLD mode. Then, when you're at 1000 AGL and more than 4 miles out on the localizer, engage APP mode, and set the airplane for landing (flaps, gear, airspeed).See if the airplane follows the glideslope properly then.
October 12, 200322 yr I was looking for an answer to this question as well, as I have been experiencing almost same behaviour of the airplane on the ILS.Thanks for giving us your suggestion on how to solve it.Nico
October 12, 200322 yr That sounds like alpha-floor kicking in. My suggestion is to make sure you are in a proper landing config when you are on final. I could, however, be wrong :)
October 12, 200322 yr same problem here, it tracks for a few seconds then it pitches up. and for some reason i cant get both CMDs onadamYou cant truley understand flying until you have actually tasted and felt it.
October 12, 200322 yr Hi TimI appreciate your comments but as I also suffer this problem on an ILS approach when not using the FMC I would like to point out that for me the localiser and glideslope are well established for many miles when suddenly the glideslope is disconnected even though the plane had been following it perfectly. The plane then starts to climb. This of course is not a problem that many will notice if they always fly using the FMC. Your suggestion may be a solution but should that be neccessary or is there more to this problem. It's been said before, but fantastic tutorial by the way.Best Regards Pat
October 12, 200322 yr I am one of those who fly using the FMC... Or who is trying to fly using the FMC, that is.But I experience the exact same problem. The aircraft stops descending, and then climbs.I hope somebody soon give us a hint what could be wrong. It seems there are not so many people in this forum who really *knows* about the 737NG and the FMC. After all...If they did, they would be able to say "Hey, it could be this!" And we would be helped.Or, instead of a SUPPORT forum there should just be one single message pinned at the top saying "Read the tutorials and manuals and follow them!". And make one single FAQ and don't allow any new posts.I keep hoping.Nico
October 13, 200322 yr I've been working with the PMDG 737 product for three days now and have had the same problem as above -- uncontrollable actions on final approach especially with the FMC and APP-Auto Pilot. Finally found what I feel was my problem. I reloaded the main program files and the SU1-1 update. I did the restart after each load. The operation now is just what I had expected it to be, completely smooth and no ILS APP problems; even the takeoff and initial climb was much smoother. My problem I feel may have been that after the first load of the main program, it asked if I wanted to restart now and I said no and went ahead and loaded the service update then did the restart. In any case the program is working great now. Thanks to Timothy Metzinger also for the great tutorial, it is invaluable.Dick Snaer
October 13, 200322 yr Commercial Member In addition to Tim's comments may I also point out that if you used standard load AND full fuel you were over MTOW (i.e. you should not even have taken-off). Maximum landing weight is 123,000 (if i recall correctly). If you insist on landing at higher weights pay very very close attention to your pitch and AoA indicator. Adjust your speed accordingly (3.5-5 degs pitch up) but (here is the nice bit) make sure you do not exceed flap placard limits. What may have happened is your approach speed was too low or you deployed flaps at a speed over the flap placard (structural) limit. In both cases the "protection" system will kick in and try to save the airplane (and you... as well). The default reversion mode is LVLCHG. Since the plane pitched up it could have been an "overspeed" condition. We venture to include every possible systemic aspect in this model.Regards,Vangelis ===================================== E. M. October 13, 200322 yr It seems I am off to do that, too - Reinstall the program and the SU, although I thought taht I had already done that a few days ago. Maybe something went wrong. It is worth another try, as I like the PMDG 737NG although it has caused me some frustrations.Timothy Metzinger could get a job at PMDG writing their tutorials, and they should pay him well IMHO.Nico
October 13, 200322 yr Hello All,I also try this and fail all the time. Whenever, I put the flaps a level down, or open gear. The plane leaves the glideslope and start climbing and crossy the runway 500 ft or more above.I also wrote this in the forum before.Toning I shall take some screenshots and send it to forum.CheersMusashi
