December 4, 200322 yr I have the replacement clouds and use online weather from Jeppesen in FS9. Does anyone notice that when on the ground and it is overcast, once you start to climb out, it doesnt stay overcast. The sky becomes broken and you can see the ground. I have never been able to approach an overcast sky, climb through and have overcast sky below me. Is this because I am using the replacement (low fps) cloud textures? Are there any settings i can do to improve this? Will Active sky help? I also use FSUIPC. Same thing happens on approach. Once I get to about 1500 agl, the sky goes from broken to overcast or it will start to rain. ThanksBrad Zimmer
December 5, 200322 yr I am certainly not an expert, but you might try setting a high ceiling base for your clouds in maybe two or three layers. For instance you could have a base of 1500ft and a ceiling of 4000 ft., then a base of 25,000 ft and a ceiling of 30,000 ft. Then if you are flying at FL330 you should see only clouds below. When descending you should break through at FL250 with clouds reappearing at 4000 ft and breaking through again at 1500 ft. Mike M.KDFW
December 5, 200322 yr Brad,I noticed the same, I use FSMeteo but I've never seen real overcast from above (looking down on overcast so to speak). This even when the METAR indicates there's overcast at level xxxx. I also don't use the replacement cloud textures so those are probably not the problem...Although the 3d clouds certainly look better than in FS2002, I find overall that there's still quite a few quirks with FS9 real weather. Perhaps when the SDK comes out things will improve...Johan
