January 3, 200422 yr APPROACH RNAV.A FIX BOLDI FIX ELSEN 4100 RNW 33 DIRECT LW (etc, etc)Can anyone confirm if this is the correct way to write a non-precision approach? This particular approach has an MDA of 2,100' AGL. Please see the attached image of the approach plate. When I test-fly this approach, I get the warning "STEEP DESCENT AFTER ELSEN". However, it's NOT a steep descent because minimums are quite high (3,500' asl). Descent below 3,500' would be done visually by the pilot, and should be of no concern to the FMC.Roger Precious
January 3, 200422 yr Hi RogerThe reason you're getting the steep descent message is probably that the 3560' minimums refer to a circling approach, not a straight-in one. The FMC doesn't know that though and it assumes you're trying to do a straight-in landing at runway 33.EDIT: Of course it's not the minimums themselves as they are not entered in the FMC, it's the 4100' at the final approach fix, which is a result of the high minimums.CheersMiltos
