what frame rate to expect?

I'm really interested in buying PDGM 737 but for now I'm checking my performances. Having actually 25-30 fps on default FS9 737 or 777, can you please tell me what will the fps on PDGM bird?I know this is a beginner post, but don't know where else to goReally thank you a lotMichael, Italy

Hey Michael! You can't really compare this model to the defaults, you need to compare it with a more complex model. Basically, to me, this is just my opinion, but with all the complex processes that make this aircraft in my opinion the Best aircraft package ever is going to slow down your computer, especially if you have a bad CPU. The model on the other hand, if textures are turned down and quality reduced, can give performance about the same as other aircraft, it depends how you set up your FS! I have tweeked my system, and with a Duron 1.6 overclocked to 2.1 and the FSB to 333, a radeon 9600XT, and 1gb of DDR ram, I can run this aircraft very smoothly (sometimes up to 30FPS even near the ground with max autogen), by sacrificing things such as AI, which takes up a lot of CPU power. Basically, I believe you could make this aircraft work on nearly any computer, but you might have to sacrifice things. Personally, now i have bought this aircraft, If I was to tell someone to buy this aircraft with a low system I WOULD. I think running the flightsim with all the display settings as low as they will go just to get this aircraft to work is worth it. This plane is simply amazing, and I for one will buy any of the products by this company which i would use ( Ie short/medium haul hint hint ). These things are the most accurate, complex addons I have seen to date, and the Virtual Cockpit is fantastic. I'm a Modeller, and after about 1 and a half years of modelling now I know for a fact there was a lot of hard work put into this model! Some aspects of this model look like they took a week to make, and they are probably smaller than your head!My opinion to you would be that if you have a reasonable system, BUY IT, and fiddle your FS to make it work. If you put your system specs up here we would have a better Idea of if it would work or not, but if it is possible for this aircraft to work on your system, buy it!I've rambled on again, but I will close with this. This will be the best addon you will EVER buy, that is until pmDG bring out another model like this:DI will add one more thing to this topic, but not related in anyway. "Airbus":)

Hi Andy, and thank you for your reply to my post. Everything what you wrote is good for me to buy it, and I think I'll do it asap. You know, your last word "airbus" is not so unrelated. I posted my question you asnwered to because I'm a PSS client with 747 and A320. Recently, A320 was patched after a very very long wait and after all, the patch really didn't get the bird to fly again. So, 747, originally for fs2000 will be done as a new product, A320 still remains to be solved. Especially on A320 I could get on FS2002 25-30 fps. Now they are 10: a slide show!I think I'll get the 737, wait PDGM for the 747 and my dream would be to get another A320 from PDGM that is gaining the reputation of being the best overall. In fact, I think no one has an airbus like PSS if we exclude Wilco which has one but it is only usable in virtual cabin and it is very heavy on mid end computer.Do you know if PDGM will make an airbus? After all, with PSS unable to let it fly on FS9 I think PDGM can get all A320 pro client to become his......

Hehe...what I meant was...In my opinion, and after talking to real A32X pilots, and people with a massive knowledge of the A320, I think it would be better if i didnt put their opinion here;) Either way, what I meant by that was that I love Airbus, and i'd love to see pmDG do an airbus, and i think A LOT of people follow my lead, and I mean a LOT. I know many people who would pay big lots for a pmDG recreation of this aircraft. Mainly for the panel details which pmDG are able to recreate in my opinion, but a model by Vin would be awesome too. I think if pmDG went this way it would be seriously accepted:D Either way, I know how annoying it is when people ask for stuff to be done from past positions I have been in, and so i'll stop here cos i'm sure pmDG would probably get very annoying if we continue:P I just hope i've Hinted strongly hehe. Seriously though, back to the 737, Buy it is all i can say - You will be amazed! It will take a lot of manual reading and tutorail reading but it will be worth it in the end:D Can't wait for the -800's and -900, a definate buy from me guys! If only we could have co pilot call outs of flaps and gear etc...then i would be amazed:D Anyhoo, keep up the awesome work guys, you got my money!

Micheal, Andy Warden got it right.I have a Athlon 2600 on a Asus A7v-333 and it's ok, get about 30 FPS.Fortunatly I had an extra Antec Case (big server case) so I installed an Athlon64-3400+ with a gig of fast memmory and a ATI 9800Pro. It all sits on a MSI Neo fsr2 mobo. The difference is now I can usually run at 60 FPS, sometimes it drops to 50 FPS for an instant and comes right back up. The CPU and supporting memmory, video card make a big difference.I would advise anyone who is at all handy with tools to put their own computer together. Many companies offer CPU/mobo, and memmory packages. They test them out with the CPU, memmory, and a vid card if you purchase from them, they ship it to you with the works allready put together. All you need to do is drop the works in a decente case that has a decente PSU in it. Monarch or New Egg are two outfits that sell CPU/mobo packages, they package them correctly so the goods arrive undamaged, they know the drill! The problem with many on line (you think your getting a deal) computers offered is that most times they are propriatory (none industrie standard) parts, want to upgrade, cant do it.In other words I was able to put together a better system than Dells $3,000.00 gameing machine for a little over $1,000.00.This is the 4th mobo/CPU combo thats been installed in this particular Antec case. You can save a ton of money this way, just take your time and pay attentsion.Regards

For what it's worth, with Ultimate Traffic and all the detail turned to to or near to maximum, my frame rate seldom gets over 20fps and often down to less than 10fps.This however is on a Dell Inspiron 8600 1.5mhz Centrino notebook, running at 1900x1200 resolution, no AA/AI, Nvidia 5650 1mb card (this I suspect is my bottleneck - would be intrigued to hear others views on how this runs with the ATI 9600).This is on average 10fps slower than the default aircraft.Dave

I have an AMD Athlon FX51 o/c to 2.35GHz coupled to an ATI9800, that, even though it's bolted to the desk so as not to fly away, I can easily bring to its knees (less than 7FPS) with all the options turned on to their max setting and the video card set to the highest resolution and AA mode. This is not necessary nor practical (except for that one screenshot to impress the neighbors).I concur that you will get about a 5 to 10FPS hit when running the 3D virtual cockpit of the PMDG 737, but again, you don't necessarily need to cause yourself any pain since the 2D panels are more than sufficient!.IMHO, the biggest frame rate hit is not the PMDG model, it's the complexity of the scenery around you. You can always tune down the external scenery by a notch to balance any hit the PMDG causes (for example, reduce the distance of scenery, not necessarily the detail). Unless your system is already borderline, the PMDG plane should not significantly impact your framerate.Just know that once you try the PMDG, there's no turning back. I've found it's taken my love of armchair flying another notch, and so far been so addicting it's not funny (ask the wife). Also, it does requires serious work and studying, and reading the "friendly" manual. If you have any doubts as to what you can get into, get the excellent tutorial for the PMDG 737 by Tim Metzinger on this forum, a life saver for me.

I never use the vertual cockpit so I really dont know what the FR would be, I agree you dont need everything totaly maxed out to have a good visual experiance, in fact with the mipmap slider (I think) I had to turn it down to #4, otherwise the whole ground texture was shimmering like crazy. It was crazy, buildings were spinning around like a top.On another note, when I tried to run FS-2002 Pro with a 3dfx 5500 and you went to spot view you had the 4 engines and the cockpit flying along. Everything else was missing. It was pretty wierd, seeing the back of the seats and the crews heads, and the panel around em, and the 4 engines all flying in formation. The only way to cure it was to turn down hardware acceleration down 2-3 notches. If you went to system|info and tested 3d you could see the DX9 logo on the spinning cube, with a NVidea ti-4200 you saw a white spinning cube, no logo. With the ATI 9800 Pro of course you can see the logo?Someday it will be better and smoother than TV!Regards

Thank you guys for your help in guiding me through this presentation. I will buy it and if the PDGM future product (747 and s on) will be at least as their 737 (guess their birds will be always better isntead) I will be their devoted client.Michael, Italy

Regarding framerates, I would be interested in anyone elses views regarding this.Had an idea last night to set up another login within Windows XP that minimised the number of programmes running in the background (virus checkers and other TSRs) in the hope it might give me improved resources to run FS2004.Not a particularly scientific study, but on the face of it, flying one circuit out of Chiang Mai, Thailand I think I may have seen a reasonable improvement in the frame rate. Was this just placebo affect and my wishful thinking, or should doing this really increase frame rates? If so, I'll continue to play in this setup from now on.Dave

There are a number of services and background processes that run in Windows XP that theoretically eat up framerates either via CPU usage or memory usage. The impact can be significant but really depends on the configuration (hardware + software), and no two PCs are alike. There's a good list of suggestions on Windows XP optimizations at www.tweakxp.com, but there are other sites out there as well.
