March 4, 200422 yr Firstly, ATC tells me to descend so i use the descend now option, and i intentionally create a waypoint altitude restriction, however, i can get the thing descending, but the N1 is still at about 75%. It doesnt seem to reduce the throttles........hence i am unable to meet my altitude constrain that i entered.Secondly, to correct this, i use level change and set the speed to 280 kts. Now it uses flight idle. But i would prefer to use the descent page........anyway, towards final approach, lies my second question.........i have the plane on dual channel ILS, and i try and set the speed down using SPEED in the MCP window, and it wont slow down, even when the SPEED button is lit green. So i deselect it, and when i go to select it again, it wont light up.........can anyone answer these questions..........thanks

Eventually what happens is that the computed descent path intersects the descent path you're flying, and at that point the FMC changes to VNAV PTH and throttles go to idle. Also, create the altitude constraint FIRST, before initiating DES NOW. That forces the FMC to recalculate the idle descent path to make the crossing restriction.Note that if you insert a new crossing restiction when you're too high/too close to the waypoint, it may be impossible to cross it using an idle path descent.
March 5, 200422 yr when you press DES NOW on FMC, wait a little bit for the FMC to descend the aircraft..... it's not always on IDLE..... :) if you do not want to wait, use LVL CHG....... :)Dany Setyadihttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
