Is all mesh the same if the source is the same??

Featured Replies

If it's 30m mesh and the source is usgs then are the results in FS the same between different mesh offerings? The reason I ask is I recently installed some for the Pacific Northwest and many areas especially those around major airports are not accurate.Boeing Field near Seattle for instance has the runway sitting in this rectangular hole. The real runway does set down somewhat from the surrounding area but the mesh isnt even close. Can someone spread some light on this issue.RegardsBobG

There are minor differences between mesh from the same source due to the LOD or level of detail and the boundaries used in the inf file when making the mesh. Smaller mesh areas are more prone to variability than larger areas. Some of the problems with airport elevations cannot be helped because the airports may have errors in their data or use data from less detailed mesh sources. Some of these can be helped by using flatten switches. None of the mesh designers routinely verify each individual airport and provide flatten switches for each one. Same source data + same inf file = identical meshOlder 30m DEMS are more error prone than newer corrected seamless data sources from the USGSBob S Reno, NV

Thank you Bob for the detailed response. All in all the mesh I am using has enhanced the general area tremendously. The immediate areas surrounding airports though, are not accurate. Thanks a bunchBobG
