CTD on descent, please help.

Featured Replies

Hello PMDG.I have the boxed version of the 736/737 and also the download 738/739 installed.I've just been for my first flights, the tutorial flight in the 736, over and over, as I can never finish the flight. The problem occurs in the descent. CMD A, Vnav & Lnav are flying ship. As the aircraft approaches the ToD I set the alt to 3000ft on the MCP so that the FMC calculated descent path is followed. As I pass ToD we begin to descend, but after only 1000ft of descent the sim hangs for a couple of seconds, and then a CTD occurs. No warnings are given, no messages received. This happens over and over again, always after descending 1000ft. I have tried descending from and to differnet altitudes, but it still happens. What can the problem be?Hope this can be solved.

First, I`m not familiar with the tutorial flight you are referring to, but by the wording of your post it sounds like this happens at roughly the same place (latitude) every time?If so, it could be the seasonal crash to desktop you are seeing, it is a bug in FS9, and have nothing to do with PMDG or any other addons.Quick way to find out is flying around some in the same area with another aircraft, say the default 734, if you`re back to desktop again it`s the seasonal CTD.Fix is simple, in your FS9 folder you`ll find a file called terrain.cfg. Backup this one (copy it to another folder, such as my documents. Then open the one in the FS9 folder with notepad, and hit CTRL H.First, search for MaskClassMap=1 and change all to MaskClassMap=0Then, search for MaskClassMap=3 and change all to MaskClassMap=0Save the changes. What this does is remove texture "under" roads, railways and power lines, I can see no visual differences since I did this. At least the seasonal CTD disappeared for me.If it don`t work, simply copy back the original file into the FS9 folder.Hope this works, but as I said in the beginning, this is only if your troubles are from the seasonal CTD bug.Rgds,Kjell

Pault,as in the previous reply, if you got many CTD's could be a seasonal problem. FS9 has this problem , but as I know, normally with the winter textures. The fix is correctly explained in the last message, but I think thet if you don't solve this way , could be another proble. The excellent tutorial by Timoty M.Metzinger , in effect, says that it is mandatory to set the date of your flight to August , 1st, at 10:00 a.m. . So...no seasonal texture that date... Please check the date and let us know.I'm still affected by several crashes with PMDG aircrafts (both 6/700 and 8/900) during my flights, and also during the tutorial.Mainly i got errors with black screens , then the microsoft error sending tells me that the error is in the panel.dll , or g3d.dll, other times other dll's ... It's not the same error, that's the damned problem :-grr But in the 40% of the times, the error is related to the panels.dll.(part of the error is fs9.exe; 9.0.0.30612; panels.dll; 9.0.0.30612; 0004867c))I know that PMDG 737NG is a really heavy addon for my FS, but my PC is conform with the minimum requests. Here below the basic specs:Mobo ASUS P4G8X Deluxe (P4 CPU 2.80GHz.)AGP 8XRAM 1,00 gigs (2x512 megs DDR)GPU Radeon 9700Pro with the latest Omega Drivers 2.5.44 (based on ATI Catalyst 4.5)DirectX 9..0b Hope someone can suggest me how to fix. TIA

Thanks for the help guys.Turned out not to be the 'seasonal' problem, but was in fact a missing texture with some Hamburg scenery I had installed.I didn't even realised I had Hamburg scenery installed. What are the chances eh.All works well. She's a lovely bird to fly. May take some time adjusting to te Boeing way of things, after spending so long on Airbus! Thanks again!
