Real MCP FD indicator

Featured Replies

In the real thing, every FD switch has a "MA" indicator above it.I've seen pics in which it's the leftside one lighted up, and other pics in which it's the rightside one...Can anyone tell me what this indicator means, and where is the control for it?Not in the PMDG, but in the real thing (as in the PMDG we do not have separate PIC and FO instrumentation.

"In the real thing, every FD switch has a "MA" indicator above it."Not sure what you're trying to say, here, but in PMDG also, every FD switch has an MA indicator above it also (at least in the 2D version I'm using) ;-)MA = MasterIt shows which FCC (Flight Control Computer), i.e. autopilot/flight director computer, is in control of APFD modes. The Master Flight Control Computer controls the MCP and PFD FMA displays. With one or both autopilots in CMD, the master FCC is the autopilot first in CMD. The other is known as the slave. If no A/P is command, the first F/D on selects the master FCC. There are three conditions when only the F/D's are on and both FCC's are the master:In approach with G/S engaged and LOC captureIn G/S with radio altitude less than 400'In t/O with radio altitude less than 400'Hope this makes sense.Rgds.Ian.
