How to deal with PMDG 737 NG and ATC???

Featured Replies

How do you guys deal with your flights in such a complex simulation and MS ATC? Do I have to disconect the limited MS ATC and "imagine" somebody is giving me more complex ATC instructions? Is sombody Using RC3 and PMDG 737 NG?

I suggest throwing out the FSATC, it really is not that great. RC3 is a decent alternative in my understanding (keeping in mind that I don't own it), but I recommend VATSIM (www.vatsim.net). You really can't go wrong with talking to 'real' controllers :)

I own and use RC3 with the 737NG and am quite happy with it. RC3 tends to start you down a bit early (I just hit DES NOW on the DES page), and doesn't recognize alititude constraints on your departure or arrival, but it's a far better alternative to the FS9 ATC. In regard to working in correlation with the PMDG737, it works just as well as any other aircraft. Just be sure to get rid of the altitude constraints and set yourself up by entering a custom waypoint 40nm (along track) away from the destination that you can add a speed/altitude constraint to later. VATSIM is also a good alternative, if it is staffed enough to enjoy a full flight with ATC. I've found that weekends are the best for that.

The best experience is going to be VATSIM, not only because of the ATC, but also because of the other "live" pilots which always adds to the ambiance, and also make your flights more interesting.Agreed, staffing can be a hit or miss situation, but if you use the program called serverinfo (search the AVSIM library), it will show you a world map and display the "activity" level, and show you who's on where and how. Excellent tool to plan your next flight.I've often seen 200+ people on VATSIM on a regular day but evenings and weekends seem to do best, probably just because that's when participants have the time for such a thing.I flew from SFO to PHX two nights ago with complete coverage over the 600 mile or so trip.Much better than either MS-ATC or RC3, although I do use RC3 also and it is really a good program - the only issue is that it has no clue what the AI is doing and tends to be a little less flexible than normal ATC.Hope this helps,
