Landing Speed and Weight

Featured Replies

Hi,I load the B737-800 or -900 just right, have the data and enter it correctly into the FMC.But when I am in approach phase I look up the speed for landing. I deselerate down to this speed and set the flaps step by step untill I am at flaps 35 or 40 and at the speed FMC tells me. But I am about nose down and not about 2

An important factor here is that you are in the -800/900. The -600 and -700 have a higher nose up angle than the -800/900. In the -800 your final approach AOA at Vref+5 should be around 0-1degree nose up, as a basic. Make sure you are using the correct speed, ie If you are using Flaps 40 you use the flaps 40 speed. Then remember to fly the approach at the proper speed relative to Vref. So for an approach no wind, it is Vref+5. If there is wind you fly at Vref+(Half steady wind plus full Gust). This should give you about the right AOA of about 0-1 degree Nose UP (With flaps 40). For flaring, although people say that the flaring height is 15 foot, it just doesn't appear to be right to me. So, I asked the 737-800 pilot on these forums, and he told me that Flare between 30-40 foot "slowly and smoothly", and don't cut off power until 27foot RA I just tried it landing in KBOS, and it has to be one of the smoothest landings I have ever done in an NG. I 'think' that the flare attitude is around 3degrees, because it is on the -300 to -500, but for the -600 to -900 it will probably be different because they have a completely different wing. Hope this helps...
