MCP altitude disconects/non-resetable

Featured Replies

Hello all:I've been perusing the forums as well as my FMC manual that came with the 737NG 600/700 and the one for the 800/900 I downloaded. What I'm having issues with is the fact that my FMC always will kick of VNAV awith statements of "Check MCP altitude" or "Reset MCP altitude" AFTER I get up to cruise altitude. The airplane will reach cruise altitude and settle in at the preset altitude in the FMC and whatt is set in the MCP, as well as the speeds in the FMC on the cruise page. Now I don't change the MCP altitude, nor the levels in the "Legs" page, or the cruise altitude set on the cruise page, but sure enough it has always kicked off of VNAV soon after reaching cruise, and most definitely before the next cruise waypoint in the FMC. If it does kick off VNAV, trying to reset using the VNAV button gets the "Check MCP altitude" or "Reset MCP altitude" messages again, even though the FMC altitudes and MCP altitudes all match. Like I said I have been through the FMC manuals (both) and can't find any reason why. Is there a list of error codes the FMC pukes somewhere, and better yet a list of possible fixes as to correct them? I've spent almost 19 years in aircraft maintenance and pride myself on being fairly aircraft as well as MSFS proficient, but I'm tearing my hair (what's left!) out! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob Murdoch

Hi Rob,Please download the Geezer Guide Version 1 at http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~speedy/pmdgstuffRead it right through first and then do the flight it outlines and report back here. I ask this as I know that every switch and setting is in the right place. If you do each step faithfully I am pretty sure you will see where you have been going wrong preciously. It is crtical that you look closely at the FMAs anytime anything is changing as it is an initimate knowledge of what they should be showing at any time that will help you fly like a real world pilot. I cannot place too much empahasis on just how important your 'Modal Awareness' is.I will do my best to help you and we also use Teampseak 2 for voice comms as it is much easier to sort a problem in real time with you flying. Grab Teamspeak and install it and we use a public channel that can be found at 213.202.254.115:10050 called 737 and the password is boeing.Rgds,

Make sure that you reset your barometer at your transition altitude (18000 for default) if you have a different barometic pressure than normal (2992). Not resetting it will result in being too high or low depending on the pressure. Give that a try real fast.Nick B.Continental Airlines 737NG Pilothttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg--AMD Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.2 Ghz (Equal to 2.8 ghz)400W Power supply3x 80 mm Case FansSoyo VIA KT600 Dragon PlusnVidia GeForce FX 5200 128 mb2 x 512 PC400100 GB Western DigitalMicrosoft Sidewinder Precision 2
