goodbye slow loading textures

Featured Replies

I have a slowish system and like a lot of us have been plagued with slow loading textures and grey/brown squares on the landscape when changing views. i use a program called Norton Systemworks, its a 'tidy up and maintain your computer'program but I noticed that the defragmenter (called 'speed disk') had a facility to place files where you wanted them on the hard disc. So I took an evening out and moved all the important files (all textures, scenery, dll's, sound and panels) of FS2004 to the first available space on the hard disc, immediately following the system files. Wow, what a difference, no stutter, no slow loading, all gone. Now, it works for me, it may not work for you, but its an idea. Im open to critisism or suggestions. Oh and before someone suggests it..... no, I dont work for Norton.BAV0244 Gordon Affleck

Another thing that helps a lot is to have FS installed into a different partition of the disk, or even better on a separate disk! It's a known fact that the data at the beggining of any disk are retrieved faster as the head needs to make shorter movements.George DorkofikisAthens, Greecehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/betaimg.jpg

Is there a way to change the location of the files without the Norton program mentioned above? Thanks

I have no idea, maybe some of our computer experts could help on that one.........:-zhelp
