Mt Everest Flight Plan

Featured Replies

Not exactly a PMDG matter, but has anyone got a decent flight plan or can describe how to get a decent view of Mt Everest please ? Not even sure where the nearest airport is !

Scenery for Nepal is limited in fs9, but plenty available for fs2002, see links at bottom.Start at Katmandu airport (with extended terrain textures on) using something like the PMDG Beech 1900D, or 737/600 and you can see Everest from there about 70 miles away and 28000ft if I remember correctly. Or you could try your hand to land and take off at Lukla in a small cessna, that's quite a challenge as you have to fly up a gorge, then make a sharp right to land at around 7000ft alt(or was it 9000ft?).If you start at Lukla in the Beech 1900D, you could take off-"DROPPING" over the runway end making an immediate and very hard turn right to fly up the gorge past K2 and on up to Everest summit. The terrain mesh for fs2004 is a huge file over 100mb, so you'd need a bb conn, otherwise it's fun anyway, even in default scenery. http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/file?rk=xPkms...ain&cm=LISTFILES&rp=/cgi/kds%3FxPkms03V=main/asia-map.htm http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...scen&DLID=37706http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...2adv&DLID=30524

In Fs9 default scenery is a pretty nice "Routeplan" to make when using the default Boeing 737-400 to "flightsee" the Mount Everest (With 29016 feet or 8844 m the highest mountain on our planet).Position of this famous mount is N 27 59.20 / E 086 55.56Go to NEPAL Kathmandu International Airport (Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal, the roof of the world state")ICAO Code VNKT - Airport elevation +4390 feet MSL.One runway 02 - 20 / Asphalt / 11029 feet (3056 m)Set surface wind to make rwy 02 active.Tune Vor/Dme(High vor)KATHMANDU Freq. 112.30 Ident KTM (Note: All DME distances(D)are referenced to this VOR).Tune NDB NALICHOWK (KATHMANDU) Freq. 252.00 Ident LNCAutopilot settings: Course Radial 078 FR / Heading 108 / IAS 240 KIAS / Alt 31500 / VS +1800 ft/min.Take off from rwy 02 and intercept Radial 078 FR via interception eading 108. Climb to preset Altitude. You will be over Mt.Everest at D 85 NM .Returnflight to Kathmandu:Select KTM vor course 258 TO. Interception heading 298 or 218 (Depends on your turning around the top of the mountain in left or right direction). At D65 descend to AP-Alt 9500 ft. IAS 240 knots. VS -2500 ft/min. Select NDB LNC-audiosignal standby.(Note: NDB LNC gets out of range over Mt.Everest but will activate again during the returnflight). At D28 the NDB will be active again and then home to this beacon, maintaining 9500 ft altitude. At D7 Kathmandu Airport will be in sight via left forward view. Reaching NDB LNC turn left onto heading 200 for downwind-leg, reducing airspeed to 160 KIAS. Maintain 9500 feet altitude. At D10 outbound the VOR, turn right onto baseleg and final approach for runway 02. This is tricky : you MUST start the turn to baseleg at D10 !! Keep the airport in sight by viewing forward right frequently. At the left of this landing rwy you see a PAPI installed. So you can now go over to manual steering, monitoring PAPI lights for let down. The scenery is great, representig the rough nature of this area!Paddy.

I have posted full SID/STAR file for KTM - available at www.navdata.atThe ICAO code is VNKT..... in case it's of interest :)

Thanks Nick, this is very welcome!Paddy.
