October 8, 200421 yr Not being a nitpicker, but I found a bit of a bug in the 737 apu. I have my default flight set up using another aircraft which does not use the drop down menu for fueling...so I have to fuel her up manually through a panel on the actual aircraft. The wings and centre tanks are completely dry with fuel set at zero. When I change to the 737, she's sitting on the runway, zero fuel on board. I once went to start her up in the normal fashion from cold and dark. Turned on battery power, stand by power and armed emergency lights. Then I flick the APU switch and she fires up and stays on...with no fuel in the tanks. I check to see if the generators can come on by flicking the appropriate switches and presto, I have a plane running on APU power with no fuel in the tanks.Fixable bug?Goran
October 8, 200421 yr Het Goran,A PMDG guy could probably give a more detailed account but here is the basic version.Because the fuel system in the NG's is custom coded around FS there were problems getting the APU to use fuel. I'm not sure of specifics but the original version of theNG's did have the APU using fuel but that was later taken out with the first service pack.I'm pretty sure that it was causing a fuel imbalance, although I could be wrong because that is exactly what I'd expect it to do considering it takes fuel from the left main tank.Personally I'd like to see it fixed. There was a discussion on this a couple of months back and quite a few users said they'd like it back also. I don't think anyone from PMDG commented on it though. So for now we have a magic APU that runs on fresh air alone :)CheersDavid
October 8, 200421 yr Environmentally friendly APU.I like it.Thanks for the update anyway David.I think it is fixable though as my default flight is with the RFP 747 and the APU doesn't work on that with fuel tanks empty. (That'll teach me when I choose not to go by the checklist). But like you said, I hope the guys at PMDG fix this as it shouldn't be too much of a drastic change to the programming.Goran
October 8, 200421 yr Why bother modeling it? What are the odds of a commercial airliner sitting on the ramp before a flight with totally empty tanks? The engines would fail to run if there were no oil in them too, but why would you bother to model this?
October 9, 200421 yr Not trying to start a flame war, but frankly, I think some of the "complaints" about PMDG products , border on the ridiculous. Just my 2 cents.
October 9, 200421 yr >Not trying to start a flame war, but frankly, I think some of>the "complaints" about PMDG products , border on the>ridiculous. Just my 2 cents. Who's complaining?I think the original poster was just asking about a minor bug that he perceived in the APU, and he got a reasonable explanation of how it was related to the limitations the FS engine.- Martin My site: www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm
October 9, 200421 yr Hi Goran,No problem mate :)Bob - Martin nailed it, "Who's complaining?". We all buy this package 'cause we want realism in the sim, what's realistic about an APU that doesn't suck gas? Not much I'd venture!Ridiculous, in my book at least, is when people start b1tching about the dihedral of a wing and how it is 'completely wrong' etc. (and believe me that really happened). Asking a honest question about something that really should be included yet isn't is far from ridiculous or complaining. Finally, to be honest, your two cents in this case were about as useful as an APU without fuel. :(CheersDavid
October 9, 200421 yr Note my original post..."Not being a nitpicker..."As for the actual modelling of the apu, I think PMDG should get their act together or they'll start losing a ton of business!! They brag about realism but they can't get a simple apu to function as it should!!!JUST KIDDING!!!!!:( Honestly, it was just an observation on something I thought PMDG missed.I love this plane and if they keep churning products out with the quality of this thing, they'll have many more years of profitable business. No hard feelings Bob.Goran
