October 13, 200421 yr Fellow CaptainsI have posted this question three times and just got "tea and sympathy"...but no real answers. As the time goes by, the cycles for SID/STARS and NAVDATA are changing. It did in Amsterdam, Miami, Orlando etc. They all have re-numbered their runways. So, I do update for the new cycles, etc. That's OK, the world changes.HOWEVER, our world is FS9, and it does not change as quickly...In reality, whenever I want to land in a FS9 Runway, it's not there on PMDG... This conflict has brought a lot of frustation and the gist of dealing with a beautiful airplane.Worst, I know I can't ask MS for updating their database...How do I get out of this dilemma, Captains? Clues, anyone?(By the way, I wrote to the fellows who painfully maintain the SID/STARS and NAVDATA, but no one replied...)Humbly, help, please..BPilot
October 13, 200421 yr I don't know what's your problem really...I mean, it's simple basically. What you are talking about, is not a datebase, it's scenery. If runway changes its number, or there's an additional runway (like Polderbaan in EHAM), then you must get a scenery addon that will change the numbering. And that you have to do for each new airport which might require some scenery change. If you update Navdata + SIDs/STARs, and have appropriate changed scenery files and AFCAD, you are done. No more problems.Any more questions?
October 14, 200421 yr Thank you, Captain Word Not Allowed,I got a clue today from Terry's excellent thread here at the site (please take a look) and I hope I'll go home to try to have my problems fixed. However, since you've shown to be a nice fellow and I'm virually alone here (I know no one who flies FS9 in a thousand miles from my home), I'll tell you exactly what happened. Than, maybe you can shed some additional light to this old guy, me...1 - I loved the PMDG. Besided Ralph Tofflemires 747-200, it's true to life!2 - I went through all the tutorials by Fred Meztinger, slowly and painfully, and learned all the basics. Than, I made my first flight, Orlando to KMIA, totally on the FMC (which I never had used before) and landed light as a feather...3 - The next time I tried the same flight (after updating from Navdata and the SID/STARS), when I tried to get the RWs from KMIA, I got an error message! No such RW's! Later, I learned that, in real life, KMIA changed the numbering of its RW's, and so did the Navdata information.4 - And it keeps changing: Orlando changed, Schippol changed etc.5 - As I mentioned in my thread, FS9, of course, did not change...6 - You mentioned I should get scenery updates, but I have no clue where to get them.7 - So, I'm still in the dark, Captain, and hope you can help me.I don't think we should bug the other guys in this forum with my menial questions. So do feel free to reply directly to the address below. Thanks again and greetings from Brazil.BPilot([email protected])
October 14, 200421 yr The disconnects between the AIRAC and SID/STARs (which change based on real-world data) and the FS9 "world" (which only changes when you add or modify scenery) are an annoyance to everyone. However, the rate of change is really less than 1% when you factor in all the airports in the USA (just as an example)There have been lots of discussions on this, and the consensus of the community has been that freeware fixes are available to bring the FS world up to speed, and that it's preferable to chase reality than "freeze" it.Best wishes
