March 29, 200521 yr Here's the link for an article published this morning about the tendecy to move further towards aircraft computer control. One wonders what the optimum answer really can be?http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/transport...sp?story=624483CliffSpain
March 29, 200521 yr That article should be an editorial, not in the news section. Most of the stuff said in that article is bull. The use of autopilot is not to turn pilots into "machine minders" like the article says, but to reduce the workload of pilots. Pilots are still trained to handle any emergency procedure thrown at them, and can still fly the plane manually as well as the autopilot would. Thats just my opinion though.Matt
March 29, 200521 yr Like . . .me . . . on a flight to Singapore from the Maldives -- the autoflight system failed halfway there. Manually flew the plane for 2 and a half hours **smiles** Actually felt VERY good to do. Not something a "machine minder" would do.>>>EDIT<<< To add the following:Senior Aircrews, eh? These "pilots" need to retire back to their tail-draggers and stick to local VFR flights for fun. That artical really disappoints me.Chris
