March 31, 200521 yr Flying this NG with Vatsim is a whole new challenge - and then some!100% success so far though still a little unclear about finding out what centre to change to (if not given)BUTen route to EGPF and elected to divert to EGPH (with a controller). Changed the destination (descent had commenced) and (I suppose I should have thought of this) lost the whole lot (FMC wise). Managed to shoot the approach with no A/P or FMC with a ceiling just above minimums. Wipe sweat off. Taxi Shutdown.SO ....... what should the correct actions have been in reprogramming the FMC for an alternate?
April 1, 200521 yr Having not ventured into the online world yet - I only downloaded Squawkbox 3 the other day. Might load it today and try my luck - but anyway...To reprogram the FMC for your alternate:1. Open up the RTE page and change your DEST to EGPH2. Get the ATIS for EGPH and also the expected approach from the controller.3. Open up the ARR/DEP page and select the arrival into EGPH.4. If you are too high, use FLCH to get back on descent path or even ask controller to extend your track - the punters don't really like coming down at 4 grand a minute!5. If you are too low - tell controller that you'd like to proceed direct to your IAF.I guess numbers 4 & 5 really depend on just how suitable your alternate is.Like I said, I haven't flown online yet (this might just be my calling! :(), but it all seems pretty logical to me - just tell ATC what you are doing, what you intend to do and I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help you out.
April 1, 200521 yr Hmm. This is what I did. However, the FMC then bleated "Invalid Route" at me and I had no legs, destination runway or procedures, I couldn't even manually enter upcoming fixes into the legs page. Nothing. At that point I decided it was more important to fly the plane than to battle the FMC.
