Round the World Challenge - Part 4 - ASIA

Recommended Posts

Guest

This is the fourth thread in the Round the World Challenge series. We start a new thread when the old one gets to around fifty posts or so in order to make the topic easy-to-follow for everyone. To find out how this flight got started, follow these threads, in order:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/7103.htmlhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/7301.htmlhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/7345.htmlImmediately following this post, I'll put up a reminder of where the Baton is at the moment. Here is a summary of the rules. If you haven't read them in a while, a refresher is recommended!!! You want to avoid getting Strikes! The Challenge was started by Tornado Wilkes. Here is his original listing of rules and goals. Please note that I have reworded some of the rules for clarity, based on questions that have been asked!I cannot recommend strongly enough that you read these rules again. There have been several strikes issued, and one flight disqualified, because of missing or misunderstanding of the rules. If you have any questions, please 1) read through the previous threads -- most rules questions have been asked and answered; 2) if you don't find the answer in previous threads, post it here. Alternatively, send me an email by clicking on the "send an email" link at the top of one of my posts.--TonyHave you ever wanted to fly around the world, but never had the time? Here's your opportunity to take part in a team effort.RULESOn 15 July 2002 (UTC), one intrepid volunteer started the RTW challenge departing Heathrow in Real World Weather. For each pilot, its up to them which way they go, however they must complete a flight of between around 1 and 2 1/2 hour duration. As soon as the leg is completed, they must post a message (with 1 screen shot - no more) on this thread and tell us exactly which Airport (inc. ICAO code) they finished at (N.B. each leg must finish on a runway).PICKING UP THE BATONAnyone wishing to take up the next leg, must reply to that "location post" simply stating that they "have the baton" (in disputes it is the first volunteer that posted who is chosen) and the challenge continues. The pilot with the baton has 3 hours to get back to the forum and post their PIREP and screenshot. If they have not returned in 3 hours, anybody may lay claim to the baton, starting at the previous departing airport -- thus making the current baton-holder's flight null-and-void. However, the 3 hour rule is flexible. If a pilot takes 3 hours and 10 minutes and nobody has laid claim to the baton, the flight is considered valid. BUT if someone claims the baton after 3 hours 5 minutes, the poor baton-holder's flight is null and void. In such circumstances, any subsequent location report posted with regard to the original flight, is deemed null and void. You may not "pick up the baton" in advance.THE THREE STRIKE RULEThe following activities will earn you a strike.A. Failure to deliver a single screen shotB. Failure to go in a sensible direction (as judged by the flaming community although the challenge still continues from where you finished)C. Failure to use real weather -- either MSFS built-in, or FSMeteo (or work-alikes)D. Failure to Travel a distance that is in keeping with the aircraft chosen and weather. This means no slewing, no speeding up the simulation rate, no fiddling with your aircraft's .air file, etc.E. Or attempt to steer or direct the flight whilst not in possession of the baton -- THIS one is the most frequently missed oneIf you earn three strikes, you are disqualified for the rest of the event.AIRCRAFTOnly the following aircraft (by any developer) may be used for this challenge:Turboprops (Single or Multi)Props (Single or Multi)HelicoptersBalloons (including blimps)NAVIGATION/ TIME OF DAYUse whatever devices you wish, and at whichever Time of Day you choose FINALLY.......Good luck all, this is our opportunity to prove that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" Tornado Wilkes

Okay, so I meant to "officially" announce the airport I landed at, along with a screenshot, but I needed to post a screenshot somewhere on my web site (since I'm not sure how to upload one here, if it's even possible). As noted, we landed at UAAA, which is Almaty, Kazakshan (or however you spell it). Here's the dawn screenshot (according to my atlas it's 15 hours ahead of me, which put it just approaching dawn as we landed):http://www.kelleytown.com/flightsim.htm(Hmmm, this still doesn't *embed* the image -- I guess I don't know how to do this here).I hope the next flyer at least takes Gregory out of "Russia" -- he was sweating bullets when I left him.

I plan on heading due east into China (I have relatives there anyway) and hope to land at ZWWW. Just so we agree on the time, as I post this the AVSIM website tells me EDT is 1704 hrs. To get GMT I'm adding 4 hours and getting 2104. According to flightsim the airport UAAA is five hours ahead of that - or 0204 local time. :()Off we go!

I've landed at ZWWW in Diwopu China. Had to fly over some very tall mountains about mid-way there, but other than that it was a very uneventful flight. The weather was clear and calm. Total flight time was 1:46.

PIREPO:Hard to find a suitable airport within range. Hope I went in a usable direction. Flying DC3. Weather clear.Down at 7:00 EDT at BalkhashUAAHBaton is passed:LowellMy two oldestg grandkids jumped aboard for this flight. I had my hands full. They fought over who had the gear, who had the flaps. Boy they see sawed back and forth on the yoke. I was up and down so much I would have preferred the turbulance to be found in a big old thunder bumper. But we finally made it down. Total time: 2:15 and flew somehow from: UAAA to UAAHDown at 7:00 EDT to busy to find out UDT, Zulu, or anything else.See screen shot:

ok... I'll take the baton again... I've never flown in China before. After getting my paperwork checked just over 72 times as I jouney across china to my departure point (I must look suspicious or something... maybe they heard word about my plane theft in Libya??) As I walk through the terminal building, a small Mongolian child appears behind me from nowhere and tries to tap me on the shoulder. "Englishman, Are you going to Mongolia?""Yeah.. what about it?""I need to find my grandparents... my mother says Grandma is is very sick... Do you go near Arviakheer?""As a matter of fact, my friend, I'm as free as a bird and I'll take you RIGHT now!!"The boy smiles widely as we hop into the plane.....A Mongolian Plane-hiker... now there's a story.See you in Mongolia.Si.It's 07:41 local time.AWWW to ZMAH (Arviakheer, Mongolia)approx 670miles.. It'll take me about 1hr 45min in the Cheyenne.
