September 27, 200619 yr So as we all know, Direct crosswind is one of the main reason for choosing the runway. But how the direction of crosswind affecting our selection??Sometimes, both 7/25 runway can be used, let say. But in some crosswind directions, only one of them can be used for landing/takeoff. So what determines the selection.Thx,dogdog1985An annoyed pilot
September 27, 200619 yr If it is a direct 90 degree crosswind then it would not matter which runway you used. Typically the local ATC facility will have a preferred runway they use, it could be for noise abatement or to avoid traffic conflicts with other airports. In your situation they would most likey default to that preferred runway. The aircraft does not care if the crosswind is from the left or the right. I did an informal survey at my airline a while back and found that captains typically prefer the wind from the right and first officers prefer the wind from the left. My preference is a right crosswind, it makes for a more comfortable hand position on the yoke as you are flaring for the landing while correcting for the crosswind.C McCarthy
