November 12, 200817 yr Hi,I've been practicing takeoffs with the autothrottle disengaged (albeit with FADEC/EEC operating in normal mode. Although the FADEC keeps the engines from overboosting with the correct takeoff power setting during manual throttle operation, I will nevertheless get excessive EGT readings (IF) I power up too quickly.I normally stabilize EPR at 1.11, then apply full power. If I am very methodical I can keep EGT readings within normal parameters as I advance power, but I really have to be careful. When I do experience the high EGT readings otherwise, I still am smoothly applying takeoff power (i.e., I'm not simply shoving the throttles all the way up in a snap movement). Is this normal behavior of the real P+W engines on the MD-11? FADEC/EEC prevents overboost, but it does not automatically protect against excessive EGT?Thanks! I love the PMDG MD-11 and am learning so much about it. I'm already hinting to my wife about the printed manual set for X-mas. :)-Paul Bonhomme
