How do .rte files relate to .pln files?

Recommended Posts

I read a few older threads on creating and loading flight plans from various sources (FS Nav, FSBUILD, FS2002, etc) and noticed some comments about loading files into both the pilots or myflts folder and also into the FMCWPnavdata folder. For full routes, shouldn't only .rte files be put there (not talking about approaches, SIDS or STARS)? I don't understand the distinction between the files, or how you convert one to the other or if you even need to. I know you need .pln files for FS2K2 default ATC, but I don't think the 767 FMC would be able to use that format.Comments will be very much appreciated!... Dave

For the second time today, I say "Page 16, FMC manual"!The FMC loads .pln files too. Just loads them from /pilots whereas ATC has to load them from /myflghts. Make it in fsnav, export it twice, once to /myflghts, once to /pilots. Load it with the default flight planner then load it to the FMC.michael
