July 13, 200223 yr Hi, folks...I was working on an 767 ADP (Air Driven Hydraulic Pump) problem today when I found some interesting stuff in the DDG's/MEL's. Apparently, with the ADP inoperative, the landing gear will take 2.5 times as long to retract... and the flaps an extra 30% longer to extend/retract. This will have an effect on initial climb performance... and it may be necessary to reduce the aircraft weight to clear obstacles (mountains, buildings, etc) after takeoff. After rectification was completed, we ran a few tests. One of these (official) tests was to run the Centre Hydraulic system using only the ADP... and activate as many control surfaces as possible to drive the hydraulic system pressure down below a certain value. We ran the TE and LE flaps out, simultaneously extending/retracting the spoilers and pulling back and forth on the stick (turning the wheel left and right). Imagine a 5 year old at the controls of PIC... and you'll have some idea of what it looked like :-lolAll in a days work... ;-)Cheers.Ian.
July 13, 200223 yr Ahhh man! I want the job as tester of the ADP. Just get in there and push/pull/twist the yoke, pull levers, and have fun. Of course, just like a 5 year old, I'd probably hit something wrong and prang the whole dang thing. But it would be fun. :-)For those of us who don't get to work on those planes, you've got a great job Ian. I'm jealous. :-hah
